    Abstract: Apparatus and a method for producing submicron and smaller metal alloy pacles using a main chamber having a longitudinal axis and a feeder for introducing a quantity of molten alloy under pulsed gas pressure in a direction generally radial to the axis. The feeder has a gas stream for forming metal droplets from said alloy. A gas accelerator directs axially flowing gas against the droplets from the feeder in the chamber. The accelerator directs the droplets in an axial direction to a substrate located along the axis and in the direction of flow from the accelerator to receive the droplets at a predetermined distance from the feeder, whereby the particles are produced.

    Abstract: A launchable a fin-stabilized round having an HE warhead that is fully telescoped in a cartridge case. The round has a forward, cone-shaped nose section, a base section with a booster cavity and a high-explosive (HE) cavity located therebetween. An HE charge is positioned in the HE cavity and a booster charge is positioned in the booster cavity. A time fuze, mounted in the booster cavity, has a presettable counter that is set by the gunner at firing via a hardwire data link through an electric primer. The tiem fuze will fire the booster charge a predetermined time period after the round is launched to enable a normally disabled proximity fuze that is mounted in the nose section. The proximity fuze will detonate the HE charge upon detection of a proximate target. Also mounted in the nose section is a contact switch for detonating the HE charge upon impact with a hard target.

    Abstract: A powered scrub brush having a power head module, a brush head module, and n extension shaft module. The power head module includes a positive-displacement motor and a flow-control valve. The motor may be coupled directly to the brush head module or indirectly through one or more extension shaft modules. The power head module has a liquid discharge port that is connected to a liquid discharge tube on the extension shaft module that in turn is connected to a liquid sprayer having a nozzle on the brush head module. Mechanical power is transferred from the motor to the brush via an output shaft on the motor, a flexible shaft in the extension shaft module, and a shaft in the brush head module on which the brush is removably mounted. The powered scrub brush is manually operated by regulating a flow-control valve that is connected between a pressurized water source and an inlet port on the motor. As pressurized liquid flows through the motor, the brush will rotate and liquid will be discharged via the nozzle.

    Abstract: A safety stop for small arms having a slide, which keeps a catastrophic fure of the slide from causing shooter injury is disclosed. An improvement in the ejector and slide permit them to function together as a safety stop to prevent a broken slide from continuing off the back of the receiver in the event of catastrophic failure of the slide. A widened section on the ejector is accommodated in the ejector slot of the slide during normal firing of the weapon. An internal shoulder fixed relative to the slide and projecting into the ejector slot near the front of the slot is provided. Upon catastrophic slide failure during firing, the rear portion of the slide travels beyond its normally most rearward position and the internal shoulder engages the widened section of the ejector, stopping the rearward motion of the slide and precluding injury to the shooter.

The propeller has two opposite blades disposed on opposite sides of a rotation axis. Each upper tilted portion has a transverse angle of attack. The upper tilted portions have a common longitudinal upper projected axis. The common longitudinal upper projected axis and the common longitudinal lower projected axis form a projected displacement angle therebetween. The propeller is made from a flexible metal or fabric ribbon. The blades are folded in a nested arrangement before descent. During descent, the blades unfold to their overall aerodynamic shape. The propeller has a windmill type of rotation during descent.

    Abstract: Improved measurement of leakage in fuze seals is obtained by employing an r bubble leak indicator. The fuze to be tested is connected to an air supply line coming from an air bubble leak indicator. The air bubble leak indicator has a narrow orifice submerged in a liquid, which in turn is connected to an air supply. When the system has stabilized, any leakage from the fuze seals will result in air bubbles passing through the liquid. A light source and light detector placed at the outlet of the orifice will electronically detect bubbles and provide an electronic indication of leakage. The system also offers a visual indication of leakage. All parts of the unit being tested remain in a dry condition.

    Abstract: In an electrical detonator, an electrical circuit includes a network for rging the fire pulse capacitor. After battery activation and gun launch, but before arming, the circuit (via an n channel MOS transistor within the CMOS) operates to ground the fire pulse capacitor. At "arm minus 50 msec", the n channel is turned OFF and the p channel transistor is turned ON. This charges the fire pulse capacitor to the battery voltage within 50 msec. The CMOS issues an "ARM COMMAND" to fire the piston actuator (PA) discharging the fire pulse capacitor until PA fires. The fire pulse capacitor is recharged in the 50 msec interval between ARM and FIRE. Logic within the CMOS is used to monitor the fire pulse capacitor. These circuits will detect premature voltage on the fire pulse capacitor and DUD the fuze.

    Abstract: Tungsten heavy alloys comprising by weight from about 80 to about 100% tuten and from about 0 to about 20% of one or more heavy alloying metals are produced by introducing powders of tungsten and the alloying metals into a thermal spray plasma gun, melting the powders in the hot zone of the gun to form a molten alloy and then spraying the molten alloy in droplet form into a collecting chamber where the droplets are solidified, and the resultant alloy in powdered form is collected. The powdered alloy can be further mixed with powdered copper, iron, nickel, cobalt or tantalum and compacted by dynamic or explosive compaction to form a near full density material. Full density materials are produced by further thermomechanical processing of the compact.
