  • Patent number: 7292575
Abstract: A method and packet switched cellular telecommunication system wherein data flows from a terminal are aggregated into one or more Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) Label Switched Path (LSP) based on at least one criterion. In a first embodiment, the data flows are aggregated into LSP(s) based on a Quality of Service (QoS) class of each such data flows, by a Network Node, such as a Radio network Controller (RNC) or a Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN). In a second embodiment, the data flows or LSPs are aggregated into another LSP(s) based on the destination routing area. The LSP aggregation is performed by an Edge Node of the routing area, such as a Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN). In a first variant of the 2nd embodiment, the aggregation is used for macro-mobility, while in yet another variant the same aggregation is used for defining a virtual private network.

  • Patent number: 7187682
Abstract: A method and node for supporting PDSN load optimization in a CDMA2000 network. The Packet Core Network Manager calculates network statistics and uses the resulting numbers to set the PPP inactivity timer depending on the load on the PDSN. In a preferred embodiment, the calculation gives the mean value of the durations of the PPP sessions (KPI1), and the corresponding standard deviation (KPI2). The PPP inactivity timer is then set to M*(KPI1+KPI2) during low load, to M*KPI1 during normal load, and to M*(KPI1?KPI2) during heavy load, where 0<M<=1, preferably depending on the distribution of the subscriber inter-arrival time.

  • Patent number: 7088993
Abstract: A method, system and server for selectively sending out notification to a message recipient when a new message is available for retrieval. A sender sends a message to a recipient. A first server receives the message and detects a condition for forwarding the message to a second server. The first server further detects an internal setting for sending or not sending a notification alerting the recipient of the presence of the message. Based on this setting, the first server inserts an indication in a copy of the message that is forwarded to the second server. Upon receipt of the copied message by the second server, the former knows whether or not the first server has already issued a notification to the recipient, and uses this information for selectively sending out a notification only in cases where the first server has not sent such notification.

  • Patent number: 7065062
Abstract: In an IP-based Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) 2000 packet-data cellular telecommunications network, a method and system for handing over a dormant Mobile Node (MN) to a target packet zone. According to the invention, first the dormant MN sends an origination request message to the target Base Station Controller and Packet Control Function (BSC/PCF), which further sends a registration request comprising an indication that the MN is dormant to a Packet Data Service Node (PDSN). The PDSN replies to the BSC/PCF with a registration reply message for requesting the establishment of a traffic channel for the MN, and for indicating that it has data packets ready to be sent to the MN, such as for example Link Control Protocol (LCP) data packets for use in the negotiation of a new Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) connection. The registration reply message comprises an indication such as for example a Data ready to Sent (DRS) parameter set to 1.

  • Patent number: 7061887
Abstract: A system, method and node for supporting multiple IP sessions with dynamically allocated home IP addresses in a CDMA2000 network. When the Home Agent (HA) receives a registration request from a Mobile Node (MN), it verifies if there are any mobility bindings for the MN. If yes, the HA verifies if the MN's care-of address equals one it already stores. If not, the HA verifies if the home IP address in the request is zero, and if no refreshes the mobility binding. However, if the IP address is zero, the HA verifies if the MN has reached its session number limit, and if so, the HA keeps only the first session and removes the others, but if no, the HA creates a new mobile IP session. The proper home IP address is the returned to the MN.

  • Patent number: 7043253
Abstract: A system, method and node for supporting PDSN load balancing in a CDMA2000 network. A mobile node (MN) sends an origination message to a BSC/PCF that sends a registration request indicating that it supports load balancing according to the invention to the manager part of a PDSN that selects an agent to take care of the connection and redirects the request to it. The agent then validates the request and sends a reply to the BSC/PCF indicating that the initial request has been redirected. The reply also comprises the IP address of the agent. The BSC/PCF then sets up an A10 connection with the agent, and the MN and the agent negotiate a PPP session. There is further a method of setting up a connection between two entities, via a third entity.

  • Patent number: 7027577
Abstract: A method and system for selecting a Multimedia Resource Function Controller (MRFC) for allocating resources for a conference call based on a pre-defined condition. In a first embodiment, the condition is associated with a status of an MRFC of a first network, such as an overload of resources, a failure, or an inexistence of the MRFC in the first network. When the condition is detected, an application server (AS) of the first network delegates the responsibility of allocating the resources for the conference call to an MRFC of a second network. In a second embodiment, the pre-defined condition is associated with a location of a User Equipment (UE) involved in the conference call. Based on the UE's location, the AS of the first network selects an MRFC of a second network, and delegates the responsibility of allocating the resources for the conference call to the MRFC of the second network.

  • Patent number: 6999501
Abstract: The method and device attenuate an interferer of substantially known spectrum in a communication signal which has been transmitted through a transmission channel and processed through a signal-processing receiver chain. In these method and device, the substantially known spectrum is used to generate, independently of the communication signal, at least one image representative of a replica of the interferer after processing through the signal-processing receiver chain. The generated image is subtracted from the processed communication signal to produce a subtraction signal, and quality-indicative parameters of the processed communication signal and the subtraction signal(s) are calculated. Finally, the quality-indicative parameters are used to select one of the processed communication signal and subtraction signal(s) for further processing through the receiver. When a plurality of images are generated, these images have different features, for instance different amplitudes or phases.

  • Patent number: 6999435
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, system and node for providing enhanced mobility in Simple IP telecommunication networks when performing L2TP tunneling. A mobile station establishes a connection with a first service node in the telecommunication network. This connection is then extended from the first service node to an endpoint, or terminal node, in the telecommunication network. Upon an establishment of a connection between the mobile station and the terminal node via the first service node, a unique address is assigned to the mobile station at the terminal node. Upon roaming of the mobile station from the coverage area of the first service node to that of a second service node in the telecommunication network, continuous connectivity is ensured between the mobile station and the terminal node by establishing a new connection between the mobile station and the second service node, and extending the established new connection from the second service node to the terminal node.

  • Patent number: 6990088
Abstract: The invention relates to an improved handoff method for mobile IP in a cdma2000 network. During handoff, the A10 connection between the Target PCF and the PDSN is pre-set-up, while the MS is still connected to a MSC, when the Target PCF receives the message from the Target BSC to set up the A8 connection. Furthermore, in the case of inter-PDSN handoff, a tunnel is established between the PDSNs, over which the PPP context eventually is transferred to the Target PDSN. The Target PDSN then sends a message to the MS triggering a re-registration with the HA. The Target PDSN takes over full responsibility for the MS when it receives the Mobile IP Result from the HA, and sends a message to the Serving PDSN to let the latter know that it can release all resources related to the MS.

  • Patent number: 6985745
Abstract: A method and a Radio Signature Positioning Determining Entity (RS-PDE) are provided for maintaining the reliability of a location database of the RS-PDE. A Data Transfer Scheduler (DTS) of the RS-PDE receives new location data comprising signal strength measurements records, and the new location data is correlated by a Data Correlation Device (DCD) with existing location data of the location database. The correlated location data is uploaded by a Data Uploader (DU) into the location database. A Data Performance Monitor (DPM) detects if the RS-PDE provides better positioning results using that correlated data, and if so, the RS-PDE then uses the correlated data for mobile station positioning. The location data update cycle may be triggered by a configurable timer defining an update periodicity, or by a detection of insufficient positioning accuracy of the RS-PDE using the existing location data.

  • Patent number: 6970693
Abstract: A method and system for providing alternative prepaid service when a serving Packet Data Service Node (PDSN) does not support prepaid or at least the type of prepaid (duration-based or volume-based) the user has subscribed to. The serving PDSN sends an access request to a Home Authorization, Authentication & Accounting Prepaid Server (HAAA/PPS) with an indication of its capability to support prepaid service and to terminate sessions based on requests from remote nodes. When the serving PDSN is neither capable of prepaid service, nor does it support session termination by a remote node, the HAAA/PPS determines that a prepaid session is allowed and supported in combination with a Home Agent (HA) for duration-based prepaid service. When the PDSN is not prepaid capable but supports session termination capability, the HAAA/PPS determines that any type of prepaid service can be allowed and supported by the HAAA/PPS in combination with the HA.

  • Patent number: 6853627
Abstract: In a third generation (3G) General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) network, a method, system and Radio Base Station (RBS) for paging a Mobile Station (MS) wherein a portion of the master routing area-cell mapping table related to a particular Radio base Stations (RBS) is downloaded in that RBS. The serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) initiates a page request and sends it through an IP based network directly to the RBSs, without involving a Radio Network Server (RNS) or a Radio Network Management Control Point (RMCP), via broadcast message, such as for example an IP broadcast message or an IP Multicast Message. Upon receipt of the page request, each RBS decapsulates the received message, extracts the routing area (RA) information, derives the cell list to be paged from the RBS resident routing area-cell mapping table and performs the actual radio page broadcast over the destination cells.
