Abstract: A light-weight substrate (10) for thin film, large area electronic devices such as active matrix display devices, image sensing arrays and the like comprises a layer of rigid, cellular material (12) bonded to a comparatively thin glass sheet (11) on whose surface thin film circuit elements are provided. An aerogel material of higher than usual density can be used for the cellular layer. An array of microlenses may be provided between the cellular layer and the thin glass sheet.
Abstract: An electronic iron includes a housing (1), a sole plate (2), a heater (3) for heating the sole plate, an exchangeable reservoir (4) for containing a liquid (5), a nozzle (6), and a pump (14) for delivering the liquid to the nozzle. To reduce the risk of the nozzle becoming clogged or contaminated, the nozzle (6) is an integral fixed part of the exchangeable reservoir (4).

Abstract: Method of applying a marking or image on a substrate which is provided with a coating by means of a sol-gel process. After the application of a layer of a sol-gel solution on the substrate, an ink which is compatible with the sol-gel is applied on the wet layer. The ink penetrates into the layer and then the layer is cured to form the coating.

Abstract: A method of furnishing a substrate with a patterned film of electrode material making use of a laser beam, whereby a stack is made by providing a surface of the substrate at least with a layer of an assistant material and an overlying layer of the said electrode material, the assistant material being capable of decomposition upon heating with the aid of the said laser beam, subsequent to which the stack is, in accordance with a desired pattern, locally irradiated with the laser beam so as to heat the assistant material to at least its decomposition temperature, consequent upon which the locally overlying electrode material is caused to detach.

Abstract: A system for communicating data between a battery powered electric toothbrush and a separate control unit includes a microprocessor in the toothbrush which collects and stores data concerning selected operational aspects of the toothbrush. The data is transmitted from the toothbrush to the control unit by means of an infrared link. The transmitted data is processed in the control unit and displayed there or is transmitted to a separate device for display and/or analysis.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of and system for determining whether a local area of a compressed video stream represented by a plurality of DCT encoded blocks subject to decoding and filtering/scaling is a stationary area or an interlaced moving area. Further, given such information, the invention relates to dynamically switching between frame- or field-based operations in a smart way, thus optimizing the output picture quality. Also, a DCT-domain-filtering scheme for field-based filtering/scaling of frame-DCT data is provided herein.
