  • Patent number: 8092404
Abstract: The invention is an apparatus for increasing intrathoracic pressure for resuscitating cardiac arrest patients. The apparatus comprises a flexible, substantially inelastic belt wrapped around the patient's chest and attached to a force converter. The force converter converts a downwardly directed force into a chestward resultant, which depresses the sternum, and two belt tightening resultants. The force converter comprises a pair of arm assemblies, each having a pair of spaced arms, which are pivotably mounted to a base. The base is positioned near the patient's sternum and the ends of the belt attach to one end of each arm assembly. The opposite, handle ends of the arm assemblies are depressed toward the chest causing tightening of the belt and compression of the chest cavity.

  • Patent number: 8079376
Abstract: A bottle cleaner that inverts the bottles to spray solutions into them. The bottles invert and receive, for example, a spray of a cleaning solution. The cleaner then returns the bottles to the upright orientation. Each pass of the bottles utilizes two sets of linked grippers arranged as a chain. One chain contacts the bottles on one side while the second chain contacts them on the other side. The two chains squeeze the bottles between them to firmly hold them. A single adjustment sets a uniform distance between the two chains of each path through the cleaner at four different locations, and the same adjustment equalizes the distances between the two chains of the two paths so that they will effectively retain the same bottles through two passes through the machine. Four motors running at the same speed keep the chains moving together.

  • Patent number: 7803232
Abstract: A bottle cleaner that inverts the bottles to spray solutions into them. The cleaner sends the bottles through two inverting passes for multiple stages of liquid cleaning. Thus, on the first pass, the bottles invert and receive, for example, a spray of a cleaning solution of some sort. The cleaner then returns the bottles to the upright orientation. On the second pass, the bottles again turn upside down and then may receive a liquid rinse. After returning the bottles to the normal orientation, the cleaner may then pass the bottles off to another location for further operations. Each pass of the bottles utilizes two sets of linked grippers arranged as a chain. One chain contacts the bottles on one side while the second chain contacts them on the other side. The two chains squeeze the bottles between them to firmly hold them. A single adjustment accomplishes a multitude of tasks.

  • Patent number: 7000343
Abstract: A multi-image display device has an arcuate platen formed by mounting a transparent flexible sheet in compression to a frame. The platen is convex or otherwise bow-shaped. Associated with the platen are a translucent image sheet having a plurality of images thereon and a restricting layer having transparent and opaque portions associated with the image sheet to permit viewing of those portions of the image sheet that register with the transparent portions of the restricting layer. Suitably altering the alignment of the image sheet relative to the restrictive layer (or vice versa) changes the image that is displayed.

  • Patent number: 6953500
Abstract: Water based waxing mixtures for protecting surfaces providing ionically neutral ingredients adhering to the surface while repelling environmental impurities, such as dirt. Surface precleaning need not precede the wax application because of an exchange, which takes place between the mixture and surface dirt. The mixture constitutes an emulsion of an organic phase in an aqueous phase. The aqueous phase amounts to 70 percent to 92 percent by weight, while the organic phase provides the remainder of the mixture and contains suspended waxes. The organic phase includes natural waxes, silicone compounds, nonionic emulsifiers and suspending agents. The mixture may be applied to wet or dry surfaces in shade or bright sunlight and then wiped off to leave a durable shine. The compound finds use on painted, polished, or smooth texture surfaces such as on an automobile. Surfactants and suspending agents stabilize the phase ingredients to allow suspension of the wax in the water.

  • Patent number: 6797333
Abstract: A treatment for silicone liner coatings after undergoing UV curing. The silicone coats a liner to facilitate its removal from the adhesive attached to a label. The silicone, while a liquid, forms a layer on the liner. UV radiation cures the liquid silicone and causes it to become a coherent, virtually solid layer. Heating the cured silicone layer and allowing it to rest for a short period of time then permits the immediate contact with it of the label's adhesive side without incurring inseparability of the silicone-coated liner from the adhesive-coated label.

  • Patent number: 6479115
Abstract: A container incorporating post-consumer recycled (“PCR”) plastic and a method of making that type of container. The container utilizes a layer of polypropylene or EVOH or a film of fluorinated polyethylene toward the interior from the recycled plastic to prevent contaminants from the latter entering the container's contents. When utilizing EVOH, the container usually has an additional layer of polyethylene or polypropylene covering the EVOH to prevent its deterioration by moisture. Making the container involves first composing a resin including the recycled plastic. Forming the various layers listed above produces a container that includes recycled plastic and a barrier to limit the migration of contaminants from the recycled material to the container's contents. This permits the use of the resulting containers for food. For a fluorinated polyethylene film, fluorination can occur either during or after the container's formation.

  • Patent number: 6101898
Abstract: A knife and scissors sharpener with a guard for the former. The scissors sharpener has an opening for each blade of the scissors with a cylindrical sharpening stone extending across them. The stone may rotate about an axis perpendicular to the openings to allow its positioning parallel to the cutting edges of the scissors to effectuate the sharpening of the blades. A spring normally keeps the cylindrical stone in one position, but the force exerted on the scissors' handles will cause the stone to move to its proper orientation. The knife sharpener employs two tungsten carbide sharpening elements crossed to form two V's. The sharpening elements in one V have a configuration for effectuating knife sharpening. In the other V, the elements will hone a previously sharpened knife blade. A circular disk holds the crossed sharpening elements in the handle. Rotating the holder 180.degree. permits a change between the sharpener and the honer.

  • Patent number: 5814383
Abstract: A container with improved crease-crack resistance and a method of making that type of container. The container utilizes a layer of a soft plastic on its exterior to control cracking at outward creases. When the container holds motor oil, the oil itself may plasticize the stiff material on the container's interior to preclude inward crease cracking. In this case, the stiff layer should have a sufficient thickness that an adequate amount of material remains unaffected by the oil and does not lose its rigidity or jeopardize the container's structural integrity. Where the contents do not provide the requisite improvement in inward crease cracking or would completely soften the stiff layer, then the container has a separate, soft, third layer of plastic on the interior of the container. The softness of this layer protects against inward crease cracking. It may also protect the stiff layer from softening by the bottle's contents.
