  • Patent number: 6254028
Abstract: A damping device is provided for damping the oscillations of a winding bobbin in spinning, twisting or winding machines. A bobbin holder, which can be swivelled around a swivel axle affixed to the machine, supports the rotatably supported winding bobbin, which is pressed against a drive roller. Damping elements act in swivel directions of the bobbin holder, the effect of the damping elements being greater in the swivel direction of the winding bobbin when it is raised from the drive roller than in the swivel direction when the winding bobbin is pressed against the drive roller. A friction jaw is provided for damping, which, with its pressing surface is pressed by resilient forces against a friction surface in the form of a cylinder surface. The axis of the cylinder surface is the swivel axle of the bobbin holder. The resilient force which loads the pressing surface exerts a moment on the bobbin holder, which tends to lift the winding bobbin from the drive roller.

  • Patent number: 6250145
Abstract: In the case of a method for operationally testing an exhaust gas turbocharger with a variable turbine geometry, actual values are detected of operating quantities which influence the operational capability of the exhaust gas turbocharger and which comprise main quantities which are used for deciding whether a fault exists in the exhaust gas turbocharger, as well as auxiliary quantities which describe a component of the exhaust gas turbocharger and are used for identifying faults in this component. In a first step, for fault detection, a quantity is measured as the main quantity which determines the engine air supply. In a second step, at least one auxiliary quantity is measured for the fault identification and, in the event of an unacceptable deviation of the actual auxiliary quantity value from the desired auxiliary quantity value, a fault signal is generated.

  • Patent number: 6250272
Abstract: A suction system has a device for utilizing resonance effects is provided on an internal-combustion engine with a lambda control and opposed cylinder banks. The suction system also has a resonance container which is connected to an air filter by a pipe connection provided with an air flow sensor. For optimization with respect to the components and the operation, the pipe connection has a first pipe section and a second pipe section which are separated from one another and in which one throttle valve respectively is arranged. An air flow sensor is provided only in one pipe section, and the control of the air flow in the other pipe section takes place by way of the lambda control.

  • Patent number: 6251619
Abstract: A process for determining a resistance to activated protein C of a test specimen of human plasma following the steps of: (1) mixing together (a) the test specimen of human plasma, (b) a reactant deficient in factor V which supplies at least most of the coagulation factors other than factor V, and (c) the venom of Crotalus viridis helleri which specifically activates factor X to Xa, and incubating the mixture of (a), (b) and (c) for at least one minute at a temperature of between 10 and 45° C.; (2) introducing into the incubated mixture(i) Ca2+ or (ii) Ca2++exogenic activated protein C; and (3) determining the coagulation time (i) in the absence of activated protein C and (ii) in the presence of activated protein C. Steps (1) to (3) are repeated, but replacing, in step (1), the test specimen with a normal plasma as control and correlating resistance to activated protein C by comparing the determinations made in steps for the test specimen and for the normal plasma.

  • Patent number: 6251494
Abstract: A honeycomb structure seal is provided for the casing of a turbine, particularly a gas turbine, having a base plate facing the casing wall as well as a brush-against section facing the tips of the turbine rotor blades. The seal includes a multi-layered construction such that the base plate is adjoined by an air-evacuated honeycomb structure section which is therefore insulating in partial areas by a vacuum and which is covered by an intermediate plate, on whose side facing away from the honeycomb structure section the brush-against section is arranged. The intermediate plate is soldered to the honeycomb structure section under vacuum conditions. The brush-against section can also be constructed as a honeycomb seal, in which case the honeycomb cells of the honeycomb structure section have a significantly larger partial surface than the honeycomb cells of the brush-against section.

  • Patent number: 6250126
Abstract: The invention intends to always maintain a distance between a hydrostatic pressure bearing and a roll even in a transient state before and after the start of rolling, thereby sufficiently and surely preventing damage of those components upon contact with each other, and to prevent a lowering of yield. In a plate rolling mill comprising upper and lower work rolls, and hydrostatic pressure bearings for supporting barrel portions of idler rolls in a non-contact manner with fluid pressure substantially along the horizontal direction, the idler rolls supporting the work rolls substantially along the horizontal direction, gap restraining rolls are provided to prevent gaps between the hydrostatic pressure bearings and the idler rolls from becoming lower than a predetermined value.
