  • Patent number: 4642239
Abstract: A method of packaging fresh meat is disclosed in which a first web of material is formed into a receptacle to receive the fresh meat and the receptacle is sealed with a second web of material. The meat is subjected to a vacuum treatment in the receptacle and sealing is effected at reduced pressure. In the vacuum treatment the oxygen partial pressure in the vicinity of the meat is first reduced below about 0.9 mm. of mercury to degas the meat and controlled partial release of the vacuum to an oxygen partial pressure of above about 11 mm. of mercury, preferably about 600 mm. of mercury is effected, the sealing being conducted at this pressure. By this means it is ensured that the meat is not stored or likely to remain under an oxygen partial pressure which is highly deleterious to the meat, particularly to its color and customer appeal.

  • Patent number: 4637909
Abstract: The process for the production of double-walled mouldings for the reduction of sound in vehicles and engines in general by means of a single pressing operation consists in introducing into a compression mould a double package, each individual package consisting of a layer of prepolymer fibres and a foil of thermoplastics material. The foils of the individual packages are situated facing one another and a medium under pressure is blown in between these foils, in order to cause each package layer to be pressed against the internal face of the corresponding half-mould. The compression mould is heated to a temperature which is sufficient to cause complete melting of said foil and complete polymerization of said prepolymer fibres.

  • Patent number: 4626150
Abstract: A machine tool essentially comprises a chuck or workpiece holding assembly (S) for rotating a workpiece (W) about a revolution axis (X) of a surface to be obtained on the workpiece, and a rotary composite tool (22) having a series of elementary tools (32.sub.1 . . . 32.sub.6) located at angularly spaced apart positions about an axis of rotation for the composite tool; each elementary tool has respective front cutting edges (40) substantially radial relative to such an axis of rotation. The axis of rotation for the composite tool is orthogonal to a plane tangent to the surface to be obtained on the workpiece and the composite tool is movable relative to the workpiece parallel to such a plane. The consecutive front cutting edges are arranged on the composite tool at decreasing spacings from its axis of rotation, and at decreasing spacings from the workpiece surface. The farthest front cutting edge from the axis of rotation is also the farthest cutting edge from the tangent plane.

  • Patent number: 4625880
Abstract: A strike down container consisting essentially of a base member, a top member, two pairs of side members, a first end member, and a second end member which may comprise a door means. The side members are joined in their pairs by means of a coupling member suitably of an H-shape cross-section which extends along adjacent long sides of the side members. The end and side members extending from the base member to the top member and the end side members and the top member are so dimensioned that they all stack on top of the base member within the boundary of the short and long sides of the rectangular base. Releasable fasteners are provided between the base member, side members, and end members and top member. The division of the side members into pairs with the reinforcement of the coupling members ensures that a large strike down container can be provided and also enables thin sheet material to be used for the side members so that the struck down container takes up very little space and is lightweight.

  • Patent number: 4621552
Abstract: The instant invention is particularly directed to a method and apparatus for automated handling of panels comprising a plurality of interconnected substrates in order to control and separate the circuit boards in a continuous processing line. One embodiment incorporates two shearing stations and a rotary transfer device therebetween in order to transfer a panel portion from the first station to the second station while controlling and rotating the panel for subsequent feed to the second station such that the panel portion is cut on a line of the substrate which is perpendicular to the original line of cut of the substrate. Throughout the handling of the panels and panel portions, sensing, gripping, and indexed feeding of the panels and panel portions are under the control of a programmable computer.

  • Patent number: 4605498
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for magnetic treatment of liquids by concentrating primarily south pole magnetic fields on the liquids to provide descaling and deliming properties thereto. One embodiment of the invention generally comprises a cylindrical casing of molded plastic or the like for surrounding a pipe through which a liquid is passed. The casing includes plural magnets arranged around the periphery of the pipe in such a manner that their north poles are directed radially outwardly from the central axis of the pipe and their south poles are directed radially inwardly toward the central axis in order to concentrate the south pole magnetic fields more strongly upon the fluid. In an alternate embodiment, the orientation of the poles has been reversed such that the liquid is subjected to predominantly north pole magnetic fields.
