  • Patent number: 5814901
Abstract: Apparatus and method to separate the harmonic problems in the load side circuit of an electrical power distribution system from the source side circuit of a source transformer in a reliable and economical manner. The electrical power distribution system includes at least a source of AC electrical power, a load, and the connection from the source to the load including a source transformer, electrical conductors, wires, or cables. A part of the load is the non-linear load which injects harmonics. A harmonic blocking filter, comprised of an existing source transformer and a series combination of an auxiliary transformer and a capacitor, is connected in parallel with the source transformer. The MVA rating of the auxiliary transformer is chosen to be equal or smaller than the MVA rating of the source transformer, and the leakage impedance of the auxiliary transformer is chosen to be equal or larger than the impedance of the source transformer.

  • Patent number: 5810732
Abstract: A bone assessment apparatus for assessing bone by ultrasonic waves. A slider mechanism for supporting a platform is provided such that it is free to be given a parallel displacement. When a foot is placed on the platform and a pair of measuring units are brought close together, the platform starts to slide from when one of the units comes in contact with the foot. When the contact pressures of the two units are identical, the sliding motion stops. The center line of the foot is thereby made to coincide with the center line between transducers, and in this situation, ultrasonic waves are transmitted and received.

  • Patent number: 5806324
Abstract: A variable capacity vapor compression cooling system is presented. In the system of the present invention, air conditioning requirements are entered into a microprocessor which controls the system. Liquid phase refrigerant entering an evaporator is regulated by a microprocessor controlled electronic expansion valve. Evaporated refrigerant is delivered to a pair of compressors from the evaporator. The motors for the compressors are controlled by a controller. Each of the compressors has a feed back loop attached thereto for feeding back some of the inducted vapor phase refrigerant. The amount of vapor fed back in each loop is regulated by a corresponding microprocessor controlled multi-purpose valve. The compressed vapor phase refrigerant is then presented to a condenser which condenses the refrigerant to the liquid phase which is used for cooling, as is well known in the art. Thereafter, liquid phase refrigerant is presented to an economizer where vapor phase refrigerant (i.e., flash gas) is drawn off.

  • Patent number: 5806140
Abstract: A rotatable grommet for opening or closing access to a panel opening. The rotatable grommet is a C-shaped grommet having a grommet opening approximately the same size as the access area of a panel opening. The rotatable grommet includes a post that engages an arched slot formed in the panel. The ends of the arched slot define the open and closed positions for the rotatable grommet. The rotatable grommet includes a handle having handle protrusions that ease rotation of the rotatable grommet. At least one latch establishes friction between the rotatable grommet and the panel opening so that the rotatable grommet will not be inadvertently opened or closed.

  • Patent number: 5807091
Abstract: A compressor in accordance with the present invention includes a male rotor which is axially aligned with and in communication with two female rotors. The male rotor is driven by a motor, in other words the male rotor is the drive rotor. The male rotor has a plurality of lobes which intermesh with a plurality of flutes on each of the female rotors. The male rotor comprises an inner cylindrical metal shaft with an outer composite material ring mounted thereon. The ring includes the lobes of the male rotor integrally depending therefrom. The lobes of the male rotor being comprised of a composite material allows positioning of the female rotors at a small clearance from the male drive rotor. This clearance is small enough that the liquid refrigerant itself provides sufficient sealing, cooling and lubrication. The positioning of the female rotors on opposing sides of the male rotor balances the radial loading on the male rotor thereby minimizing radial bearing loads.

  • Patent number: 5807612
Abstract: A composition and method is described for providing conformal protective or decorative polymer coatings on metals such as aluminum, copper, iron, steel, zinc, and their by dip autopolymerization. In accordance with the present invention, an acidic solution of organic monomer undergoes autopolymerization upon contact with a metal substrate, thereby forming a polymeric coating on the substrate. The method comprises providing the acidic monomer solution, dipping the metal substrate to be coated for a prescribed period of time depending on the thickness of the coating desired, and then removing the substrate from the solution. Importantly, the polymerization requires no application of external driving force, such as thermal or electrical energy. The coatings thus formed are up to 50 microns thick, and conform to the shape of the substrate. These coatings further have uniform thickness, and excellent thermal stability and protective properties.

  • Patent number: 5807488
Abstract: The container is made of a single blow molded piece having a pair of vertical column chambers, inlet and outlet connectors and tubes connecting the inlet and outlet connectors to circulate fluid through the vertical column chambers in series. Each container is filled with a recyclable filter medium and the container can be recycled with the filter medium. When the filter container is replaced, the entire filter container is sent for recycling. The filter container can be attached to other filter containers to form a compact filter assembly or the container can be mounted to a wall to be stored out of the way. When the containers are connected together, they can be arranged to be easily connected in series and when replacing spent filter containers, it is possible to replace only some of the containers connected in series to leave partially spent containers in the fluid circuit for further use while new containers are added to an outlet side of the containers connected in series.

  • Patent number: 5802668
Abstract: A caster assembly having rattle-free operation is presented. The caster comprises an inverted U-shaped horn member carrying an axle (i.e., a shoulder bolt). A wheel rotating on a spanner is supported between leg portions of the horn by the axle. A brake support and treadle lever are mounted on the axle and provide for locking the caster wheel. A spring tab is formed integrally in the treadle lever. The spring tab is spring biased inwardly to force the brake support and the treadle lever apart. The maintenance of a constant tension separating the brake support and the treadle lever results in rattlefree operation of the caster assembly of the present invention.

  • Patent number: 5804765
Abstract: A cable management enclosure for providing neat, organized installation of cable (such as fiber optic or copper) and providing easy access to the cable for maintenance. The cable management enclosure provides an area for managing cabling at the work area (an area located close in proximity to the station equipment, which includes telephones, data terminals, and computers) by providing a connection point for 2, 4, or 6 fiber connectors utilizing slide-in adapter panels. There are also provisions for copper connections with the integration of a single-gang faceplate which can be mounted directly to the cable management enclosure cover to accommodate up to 6 modular jacks. The base of the cable management enclosure provides incoming fiber cable strain relief plus storage and management of up to 1 meter of slack for as many as 6 fibers. A cover snaps onto the base to provide dust-proofing and protection for the fibers. A concealed cover-to-base screw accommodation is included for added security if desired.
