Patent number: 4127644Abstract: Hydrogen is produced from water by first reacting I.sub.2, SO.sub.2 and H.sub.2 O to make hydrogen iodide and sulfuric acid. A substantial molar excess of SO.sub.2 and I.sub.2 in the reaction zone creates a lighter sulfuric acid-bearing phase and a heavier polyiodic-acid-bearing phase. The heavier phase is separated, degassed and then contacted with phosphoric acid to permit distillation of HI of low water content and recovery of I.sub.2 as a separate fraction. Hydrogen is recovered from HI vapor, as by thermal decomposition.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1977Date of Patent: November 28, 1978Assignee: General Atomic CompanyInventors: John H. Norman, Thomas S. Patent number: 4126132Abstract: An intravenous and intra arterial delivery system is described having a disposable cassette actuated by a pump and control electronics for providing positive but variable delivery rates. The cassette is self-priming and provides protection against the delivery of air by being unable to impel air, and means provide an indication of excessive air in the cassette. The electronics has low power consumption so as to be suitable for battery operation, such as by way of rechargeable batteries. A pressure sensor in the delivery line may be used to sense infiltration. The system further features a provision for predetermining the amount of fluid to be delivered, and a detection system for detecting an empty supply bottle.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1976Date of Patent: November 21, 1978Assignee: Andros IncorporatedInventors: Peer M. Patent number: 4126403Abstract: A post construction is disclosed wherein an upper post section has its lower portion disposed in overlapped relation with the upper end portion of a lower post section and is connected thereto through a pair of breakaway elements which facilitate breakaway movement of the upper post section relative to the lower post section when the upper section is subjected to a predetermined impact force such as from a motor vehicle. A retainer bar is connected to the upper and lower post sections in a manner to prevent complete release of the post sections from each other upon impact, the retainer bar having lost motion connection with at least one of the post sections in a manner to substantially dissipate the impact force. In a preferred embodiment, the retainer bar is formed with offset web contact portions adapted to engage the opposed webs of the superimposed post sections and establish solid interconnection therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1977Date of Patent: November 21, 1978Assignee: Franklin Steel CompanyInventors: Lawrence J. Patent number: 4124932Abstract: Steel strip is continuously roll-formed into tubular shape, seam-welded and coated with zinc in a galvanizing bath. The coated tubing is promptly cooled by a prequench flow of cooling water flowing in the direction of movement of the tubing, thus superficially hardening the zinc. Water is pumped into the prequench zone through passageways arranged radial to the tubing and at an angle between 20.degree. and 40.degree. to the direction of movement. Final cooling is effected by immersion in a water bath. Heavier and smoother zinc coatings can be applied as a result.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 1977Date of Patent: November 14, 1978Assignee: Allied Tube & Conduit CorporationInventors: Arthur H. Patent number: 4124175Abstract: A retractor is provided with a tension relieving mechanism which is operated by a belt sensor for sensing a taut or slack condition of the belt. The belt sensor operates a blocking means between a blocking position in which the tension of the winding spring is relieved from the protracted belt on the passenger's shoulder and a release position in which the spring winding force is applied to the belt to rewind the belt. Preferably, a cam means is provided to hold the blocking means in its release position to rewind slack occasioned during slight forward protraction movements of the passenger when the belt has been initially set in the tension relieving state. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the tension relieving mechanism is set into the tensionless condition immediately upon buckling of the belt tongue plate to a buckle. The amount of slack in the protracted belt cannot be increased by ratcheting past the teeth as with prior art tension relieving mechanisms.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1977Date of Patent: November 7, 1978Assignee: Gateway Industries, Inc.Inventor: Raymond S. Patent number: 4122965Abstract: A closure for glass containers is formed with a top end wall and a depending annular skirt wall. A base ring depends downwardly from the top end wall and supports a small sealing fin which projects downwardly from base ring to engage the finish of a glass container neck in sealing relation when the closure is applied to the container. The preferred base ring is tapered downwardly and outwardly and facilitates the flow of plastic into the sealing fin during molding of the closure. The closure is threaded onto the container neck and the sealing fin comes into contact with the finish. The application of additional closure torque causes the sealing fin to deform and be crushed. Polypropylene has the desired structural properties of flexural stiffness, hardness and compressive strength to be used for the closure.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1977Date of Patent: October 31, 1978Assignee: Kerr Glass Manufacturing CorporationInventor: Gerald L. Patent number: 4123796Abstract: A controller is disclosed for use in controlling environmental conditioning apparatus such as heating and air conditioning equipment in a building or the like. The controller is flexible in that it can control most types of such control devices and apparatus and it eliminates the necessity of a conventional local controller while permitting the use of a centrally controlled automated system if such is desired. The controller is self-contained in that it preferably has a display and keyboard for establishing and changing the operational limits of the apparatus that is to be controlled. Only one sensing device is needed for each apparatus that is controlled, since the signals that are generated by the sensing devices are compatible with the controller as well as with a central automated system if such is used. The controller eliminates the need for a conventional local controller for each apparatus and permits one controller to be used in conjunction with a plurality or a group of control devices.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1976Date of Patent: October 31, 1978Assignee: Powers Regulator CompanyInventor: James Y.
