Abstract: An improved optical fiber cathode ray tube is provided which enables the recording of images on a recording medium with a high resolution even if the recording medium is disposed with an increased gap between the tube and the recording medium to prevent mechanical contact therebetween. The tube is provided with an additional stack of optical fibers facing the optical fiber face plate of the cathode ray tube with a light transparent thin layer being interposed between the face plate and the additional stack. The transparent thin layer may be a transparent plate and/or air gap. The stack of optical fibers may be in a form of an optical fiber plate or bundle.
Abstract: In a dry type method and apparatus for quenching coke wherein hot coke charged in a coke quenching installation is cooled by circulating cooling gas in the installation through a closed circulating system including a blower and a heat exchanger, the composition of the cooling gas is analyzed and compared with a reference gas composition and air or nitrogen gas is supplemented to the closed circulating system in accordance with the result of comparison. A portion of the circulating gas is discharged to the atmosphere when air or nitrogen gas is supplemented. Air is supplemented on the high temperature discharge side of the circulating cooling gas while nitrogen gas is supplemented on the low temperature inlet side. The cooling gas is discharged to the atmosphere before the supplementation of the nitrogen gas.

Abstract: An electrical or supersonic wave having a predetermined frequency is emitted as a monitor wave from an emitting device into a zone to be monitored. When a moving object having an inherent velocity range intrudes into the zone, a reflected wave of the monitor wave from the moving object is received by a receiver and an alarm signal is issued when the frequency deviation of the reflected wave relative to the frequency of the emitted monitor wave is within the frequency range corresponding to the velocity range. The alarm device has a circuit for producing a first alarm responsive to the alarm signal, a circuit for changing the frequency of the monitor wave when the first alarm is issued, and a circuit for producing a second alarm when a further alarm signal is obtained from the monitor wave with changed frequency within a predetermined time after change of the monitor wave frequency.

Abstract: A plurality of tone signals corresponding to one note and having the same fundamental frequency and different harmonic components are modified in amplitude according to the shape of an envelope signal generated upon key depression and having an amplitude proportional to the key depression speed. One of the amplitude-modified tone signals is clipped at a predetermined level and then mixed with another amplitude-modified tone signal. The frequency spectrum of the resultant tone signal varies with time like a piano.
Abstract: To simplify transport of a recording ribbon, such as an inked ribbon, making an impression record on a recording strip of a chart-type instrument recorder, the ribbon is formed as a closed, endless loop which is guided in a path adjacent the printing mechanism to impress a mark recording paper; the ribbon transport operates in one direction only to move the ribbon, in steps, thereby avoiding difficulties with respect to ribbon reversal and attendant constructional complications.
Abstract: A hydraulic bending machine comprises a reciprocating connector fitted symmetrically with a pair of roller holders having inner and outer rollers rotatably attached to the end portions thereof, respectively. In these inner and outer rollers to abut against a workpiece, the outer rollers have a diameter larger than that of the inner rollers. A guide block is disposed forward in the extending direction of the connector. When the connector extends, the workpiece is held between the rollers of the respective roller holders and the guide block. When the connector further extends, then the roller holders rock around their rocking centers, and the workpiece, pushed by the inner and outer rollers, is bent around the guide block. Since the diameter of the outer rollers is larger than that of the inner rollers, the workpiece is bent further by the outer rollers than by the inner rollers. Thus, there may be maintained a desired bending angle even with the restoring force applied to the workpiece after bending.
Abstract: The present invention provides a catalyst for converting the noxous CO, NO.sub.x and hydrocarbons found in the exhaust gases from internal combustion engines into less harmful gases, and to the method of treating said exhaust gases. The catalyst consists essentially of a solid solution of Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3, Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3, and Fe.sub.3 O.sub.4. The catalyst may be extended on a porous carrier such as aluminum oxide or aluminum silicate. The catalyst is particularly suited for treating the exhaust gas from internal combustion engines of motor vehicles.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing an MOS FET includes a step of forming a p.sup.+ -type layer in a p-type substrate by injecting ions into the substrate through a field oxide film using a mask layer and removing the portion of the field oxide film under the mask layer.
Abstract: To improve commutation and, particularly, to suppress commutator sparking and arc-over or flash-over, an auxiliary yoke is placed between the main poles and the auxiliary or commutating poles of a salient pole machine, the auxiliary yoke being formed of stacked lamellae, preferably with an adjustable air gap. Adjustability can be obtained by forming the auxiliary yoke with two interengaging sections, one of which is movable with respect to the other, so that commutation at the specific poles can be adjusted by adjusting the air gap of the auxiliary yoke.

Abstract: Improved process for the oxidation of the Fe.sup.2+ in waste water is disclosed. The process is especially advantageous when applied to low pH acidic waste waters containing substantial amount of the Fe.sup.2+ and is carried out by making use of acid-proof, porous material as a bed-material for iron bacteria to inhabit. The bed-material is suspended in the waste water to be treated and is used repeatedly in a closed circuit.
Abstract: An elastic surface wave device comprises a piezoelectric substrate; input and output interdigital transducers provided on one surface of the piezoelectric substrate and mutually spaced apart from each other to define a surface wave propagation path therebetween; and a surface wave absorber partially overlappingly provided on that end portion of at least one of the transducers which lies on an extension of the surface wave propagation path, the absorber having opposite side edges diagonally intersecting with respect to the surface wave propagation path.
Abstract: Ground clutter is automatically eliminated from echo signals in a weather pulse radar system to provide signals having an amplitude corresponding to the average intensity of the weather echo over a number of pulses. The reflected waves received in the receiver are linear-detected to provide echo signals. Each one of successive echo signals is compared with another later one which is apart from the each one echo signal by a predetermined time period during which fluctuation of weather target becomes independent, to derive an AC component signal corresponding to the fluctuation. The variance of the amplitude of the derived signal is proportional to the mean power of the weather echo. Thus, the ground clutter and the DC component of the weather echo are eliminated. The AC component signals are unipolarized and, thereafter, averaged. The averaged signals have an amplitude corresponding to the average intensity of the weather echo.
Abstract: A signal generator, such as a breaker contact, an electronic ignition control system, or the like, provides signals when an ignition event is to occur, to control the operation of a controlled switch, connected in circuit with a spark coil, to open the circuit and induce a pulse for application to a spark plug. To provide a sequence of pulses to the spark plug for any one ignition event, a pulse generator is enabled when an ignition event is commanded.
