  • Patent number: 8334866
Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments of methods, systems, devices and components for reducing power consumption in an LCD display that is backlit by LEDs. The various embodiments typically require the use of an array of backlighting LEDs disposed beneath and configured to emit light in the direction of an overlying LCD or LCD panel. In such an array, some LEDs are operated or driven at a first brightness, while other LEDs are operated or driven at a second brightness that is different from the first brightness, or at no brightness at all (i.e., such LEDs are turned off). LED brightnesses and therefore backlighting brightnesses over different portions of display or screen are varied and determined in accordance with the portion of display or screen that a user or processor has selected for viewing (“the area of interest”).

Abstract: A light guide includes a light interface surface, top and bottom surfaces, a surface feature pattern, and a cut line. The light interface surface receives light into the light guide from a light source. The light received through the light interface surface reflects according to total internal reflection (TIR) within the light guide between portions of the top and bottom surfaces. The surface feature pattern disrupts the TIR and scatters at least some of the light outside of at least one surface of the top and bottom surfaces. The cut line redirects at least some of the light from a first direction to a second direction within the light guide. The first direction is a direction other than towards the surface feature pattern, while the second direction is a direction substantially towards the surface feature pattern. The light guide may back-illuminate an optical keypad with a plurality of push buttons.

Abstract: A cryptographic system (1000) is provided. The cryptographic system includes a data stream receiving means (DSRM), a number generator (NG), a mixed radix accumulator (MRA) and an encryptor. The DSRM (1002) receives a data stream (DS). The NG (702) generates a first number sequence (FNS) contained within a Galois Field GF[M]. The MRA (750) is configured to perform a first modification to a first number (FN) in FNS. The first modification involves summing the FN with a result of a modulo P operation performed on a second number in FNS that proceeds FN. The MRA is also configured to perform a second modification to FN utilizing a modulo P operation. The MRA is further configured to repeat the first and second modification for numbers in FNS to generate a second number sequence (SNS). The encryptor (1004) is configured to generate a modified data stream by combining SNS and DS.
