    Abstract: A protein is immobilized by a simple and effective method on a porous polymeric support by a first soaking in a dilute long-chain cationic solution and a second soaking in a dilute aqueous protein solution. The long chain cationic is preferably a nitrogen compound such as a diamine having at least one alkyl or alkenyl group containing at least eight carbon atoms. A preferred diamine is N-coco-1,3-diamino-propane. The protein may be an enzyme or hormone. A preferred enzyme is catalase or a two enzyme system of catalase and glucose oxidase.

    Abstract: A method for the manufacture of urethane-modified polyisocyanurate foams in which an isocyanate is blended with a "B" side comprising a polyol blend, a surfactant, a blowing agent, and a catalyst. The polyol blend comprises at least 5% (wt.) of a mixture of a polyalkoxylated amine and a polyalkoxylated quaternary ammonium borate ester, at least 40% (wt.) of a resin polyol, with any remainder being a polyether or polyester polyol. All components of the "B" side will remain a homogeneous liquid without phase separation and without the need for agitation for at least 3 days after blending. The resin polyols are preferably moderate viscosity, aromatic polyester polyols derived from polycarbomethoxyl-substituted diphenyls, polyphenyls, and benzyl esters of the toluate family.

    Abstract: A method for the manufacture of polyisocyanurate foams which comprises blending a "B" side with an "A" side comprising an isocyanate. The "B" side comprises a diol, an amine/quaternary ammonium borate ester blend, a surfactant, a blowing agent, and a catalyst which is present in amounts up to about 20% of the total weight of the "B" side. The "B" side remains a homogeneous liquid for at least three days without the need for agitation and the foam formed by this method has a friability not exceeding 30%.

    Abstract: A pipe and sleeve telescoped joint with the pipe and sleeve in sealing engagement and keys embedded in both pipe and sleeve at their interface. The size and number of the keys are calculated from the size and strength of the pipe. The sleeve is sized and its strength selected from the strength of the pipe, and the sleeve ends are shaped to hold the joint circular when it is made. The apparatus includes means for holding the midportion of the sleeve circular when creating the joint, and for cooperating with the sleeve ends to keep them circular. The sealing engagement is created by firing a propellant into a substantially incompressible medium, like water, held by the apparatus in a cavity about the sleeve, and a piston separates the explosive propellant from the pressure medium.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a photopolymerizable composition comprising a polymerizable, polyethylenically unsaturated compound, benzil and/or fluorenone, a specific biphenyl ketone such as para-phenyl benzophenone, and a reducing agent such as a tertiary amine. The present composition permits rapid and complete curing. Moreover, in the photopolymerization of compounds sensitive to air inhibition non-tacky surfaces are obtained. The effect observed is based on a synergism between the present photoinitiators. The advantages of the invention are most manifest in curing relatively thick layers of materials.
