  • Patent number: 8304420
Abstract: This invention relates to the discovery of prodrugs of 3-or 5-substituted analogues of the selective platelet lowering agent anagrelide which have reduced potential for cardiovascular side-effects and which should therefore lead to improved patient compliance and safety in the treatment of myeloproliferative diseases. More specifically, the present invention relates to prodrugs of certain imidazoquinazoline derivatives which have utility as platelet lowering agents in humans. The compounds of the present invention function by inhibiting the formation of blood platelets. An example of a compound of the present invention is methyl 2-(2-amino-5,6- dichloroquinazolin-3 (4H)-yl)-2-methylpropanoate or the 3,3-demethyl anagrelide open-ringed analog.

  • Patent number: 8305856
Abstract: To record specific information to a disk-shaped record medium and reproduce the recorded specific information without any influence on the error correction capability. Copy protection information (CPID) having an error correction code appended thereto, shuffled and otherwise treated is sent as a CPID bit block to an EDC rewrite circuit (14). The EDC rewrite circuit (14) rewrites an error detection code appended to user data in each sector in accordance with bit information in the CPID bit block. Thereafter, the data in each sector is scrambled, and an ECC block including a plurality of sectors is modulated with an error correction code and sync signal appended thereto. The modulated signal is recorded in a reserve area of a lead-in area of the disk-shaped record medium. During reproduction, CPID is restored based on the result of error detection of each sector.

  • Patent number: 8302199
Abstract: The invention is directed to detecting and taking action against unauthorized behavior, such as cheating, committed by a participant in a networked game. A game client receives from an anti-cheat server one or more encrypted blocks containing executable code and computer-readable data. The anti-cheat server transmits a series of challenges, at periodic or randomly-determined intervals, to the game client. A challenge includes instructions regarding the decryption and manipulation of a black box. The anti-cheat server monitors responses, if any, by the game client to the challenges, and determines whether the game client is engaged in unauthorized behavior. The nature of a challenge is such that the player is not easily able to determine or predict whether the challenge actually performs a meaningful cheat-detection procedure, whether the challenge is identical to a challenge received by another player, and whether the challenge is substantially the same as a previously-received challenge.

  • Patent number: 8301784
Abstract: Embodiments are directed towards providing a switch proxy service (SPS) to transcode content from a native format into a format optimized for play at a switch enabled consumer electronic device (SED). In one embodiment, the SPS may receive a set of capabilities for a SED that includes at least a minimum, a maximum, and at least one other set of content characteristics. The SPS may associate the capability set with a device identifier that uniquely identifies the SED. When a request for content is received, the SPS examines the request to determine if it valid and authorized. If the request is valid and authorized, the SPS provides content transcoded based on the capability set for the SED, where the SPS provides the content as much as possible to satisfy the SED's best quality set of content characteristics, but at least within the SED's minimum/maximum sets of content characteristics.

  • Patent number: 8297665
Abstract: A snap closure suitable for a thin-walled cabinet such as a sheet-metal cabinet, particularly for drawers, plug-ins, doors, or the like which can be pushed into or swiveled into a sheet-metal cabinet, comprises a housing which can be mounted in an opening of the cabinet sheet metal. One side (the outer side) of the housing has a handle and a closure actuating element, while a closure hook proceeds from its other side (inner side) so as to be swivelable against spring force. The closure hook is connected to the actuating element by a freewheeling coupling. According to the invention, the actuating element is formed by the handle which is mounted in the housing so as to be swivelable around an axis, and this axis is parallel to or coaxial to the axis of the closure hook.

  • Patent number: 8299448
Abstract: A control parameter is determined for a system for irradiating a predetermined target volume in a body with a particle beam. The system is constructed to direct the particle beam at a multiplicity of target points in the target volume in succession in order to produce at, each of the target points a predetermined dose distribution in a region around the target point. The control parameter controls the extent of an overlap of the dose distribution of a first target point with the dose distributions of neighboring target points. For determination of the control parameter, there is first determined a movement parameter which quantitatively characterizes the movement of the body at the first target point. The control parameter is determined in dependence on the movement parameter.

  • Patent number: 8301719
Abstract: A network device and method are directed towards detecting and blocking image spam within a message by performing statistical analysis on differences in edge pixel distribution patterns. An image spam detection component receives a message with an image attachment. Physical characteristics of the image are examined to determine whether the image is a candidate for further analysis. If so, then the image may be converted to a grayscale image, and then performing edge detection, followed by the elimination of non-maxima and thresholding of weak edges. Edge pixels and then employed to determine a normalized pixel density distribution (PDD). Various statistical analyses are applied to the resulting normalized PDD to determine a likelihood that the image is spam. A signature based exemption may be applied to images improperly identified as spam, based on trusted user feedback.

  • Patent number: 8295685
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for content reproduction, a recording medium, and a program that make it possible to edit taken images easily and automatically in accordance with an intention of an editor. Each time a reproduction is performed, a reproduction start point and a reproduction end point of VOBU units of images reproduced by a disk camcorder are recorded in Play Data 81. The recorded reproduction start point and reproduction end point are read, and edit points representing a reproduced section of a longest, a shortest, or an average length are obtained. The obtained edit points are registered in a UD_PGCIT 94. Scenes are reproduced in order on the basis of the edit point data in the UD_PGCIT 94, and thus automatic edit reproduction is performed. The present invention is applicable to disk camcorders.

  • Patent number: 8296801
Abstract: A program preparation and distribution system, in which metadata indicating variable information is generated from project to project, from medium to medium, from scene to scene or from frame to frame, to realize an asset management by controlling an archive system depending on the metadata. A database is constructed in which the archive system manages metadata in a concentrated fashion along with the essence such as video and audio data. By a distributed program editing system, the metadata inputted at the planning processing and at the casting processing is registered in the database managed in a concentrated fashion by an archival manager, at the same time as a tag specifying the registered metadata is issued. This tag is co-packed with the video and audio information obtained on acquisition by an acquisition system. In a production system, the timing to flow the staff roll is specified during the off-line processing in the production system.
