  • Patent number: 7844310
Abstract: An improved PDA-like portable electronic communication device includes a housing having a display screen on the front and a mounting surface that is contoured to generally conform to the shape of a user's forearm. In this way, the communication device can be comfortably and securely worn on a user's forearm so that it is constantly or immediately available for use. In example embodiments, the mounting surface is formed by the back side of the housing and is cylindrically concave or frustoconically concave. In other example embodiments, the device includes a mount to which the housing attaches in multiple positions, with the mount having a frustoconically concave back surface in one embodiment and with another embodiment additionally including mating cylindrically convex and concave surfaces of the mount and the housing.

  • Patent number: 7837633
Abstract: A medical lancing device including a replaceable multi-lancet cartridge. The lancing device includes a drive mechanism, an activation mechanism, and an advancing mechanism. The advancing mechanism includes a linear-pull slide that is moved in and out to operate an indexing ratchet mechanism, a cam-guided charger mechanism, and a cam-guided lancet cap displacement mechanism. The indexing ratchet mechanism sequentially advances the lancets in the cartridge to an active position. The cam-guided charger mechanism charges the drive mechanism and separates the cap from the active lancet. And the cam-guided cap displacement mechanism moves the separated cap from the lancing stroke path of the active lancet. The activation mechanism then releases the charged active lancet to traverse the unobstructed lancing stroke path to pierce the subject's skin at a desired lancing site.

  • Patent number: 7836836
Abstract: The present invention provides a cam follower bracket that is used in conjunction with textile tufting machines. Typically, the present invention is used with shifting tufting machines used to produce carpet and rugs. The cam follower bracket utilizes a floating lug design that self-regulates the amount of pressure that the cam follower bearings apply against the shifter block of the tufting machine. Because the bracket is able to self-regulate the pressure, the bracket generally lasts longer and does not need to be periodically monitored and/or tightened. Therefore, less user interaction is required and less machine downtime is needed when operating a tufting machine utilizing a bracket according to the present invention in comparison with known cam follower brackets.

  • Patent number: 7837323
Abstract: A colored contact lens having a non-opaque pupil section, an iris section surrounding the pupil section, and a colored, opaque intermittent pattern made up of a plurality of elements located over the entire iris section that leaves a substantial portion within the interstices of the pattern non-opaque, the pattern covering an effective amount of the iris section to change the apparent color of the iris, the pattern having a plurality of portions, each of the portions being a different shade from each other portion, each of the portions overlapping each other portion at a plurality of points, where at least one of the plurality of portions contains a selected design.

  • Patent number: 7823594
Abstract: This invention provides a flexible seamless hair clamp. More specifically, the flexible seamless hair clamp has a contiguous body portion. The contiguous body portion has a first leg member having a unitary first distal end and opposite thereto a first lever region, and a second leg member having a unitary second distal end and opposite thereto a second lever region. A curved bridging portion is disposed between and formed integrally with the first and second leg members proximate to the first and second lever regions. The bridging portion connects the first and second leg members in a manner such that each is oppositely juxtaposed with respect to each other and arranged to bias the distal ends into proximate contact with one another. Collectively, the first leg member, curved bridging portion and second leg member define a continuous concave surface within the contiguous body.

  • Patent number: 7820040
Abstract: A filtration device and method for removing pollutants from fluid such as storm-water. The filtration device has a chamber including a series of pivotal filtration assemblies each including a weir and filter. The filters are selected and positioned for sequentially filtering larger then smaller pollutant particles from the water flowing through the device. The weirs are configured and positioned for sequentially permitting water overflow of (and thereby taking off-line) the smaller-particle size filters then the larger-particle size filters from the water flowing through the device. And the filtration assemblies are pivotally mounted to the chamber walls and configured so that, when one of the filters becomes clogged, the water pressure against it causes that filter assembly to pivot into a bypass position permitting water to flow under it.

  • Patent number: 7815667
Abstract: A power source for an implantable medical device, such as a spinal cord stimulator, has a controlled anterior surface. Preferably, the contoured anterior surface includes a layer of a biocompatible material, such as a polymer. Also preferably, the layer provides a contour generally conforming to the profile of a human buttock. Optionally, a cosmetic implant of generally substantially the same size and shape as the power source is implanted in the opposite buttock as the power source so as to create balance.

  • Patent number: 7816403
Abstract: There is provided a method for inhibiting ATF/CREB and cancer cell growth using disulfiram, administered in combination with heavy metals. It was found that disulfiram disrupts transcription factor DNA binding by forming mixed disulfides with thiols within the DNA-binding region, and that this process is facilitated by metal ions. Disulfiram administered to melanoma cells in combination with copper (II) or zinc(II) decreased expression of cyclin A, reduced proliferation in vitro, and inhibited growth of melanoma cells. The combination of oral zinc gluconate and disulfiram at currently approved doses for alcoholism stabilized tumor growth in two of three patients with Stage IV metastatic melanoma, with 12 and 17 month survivals, respectively, to date, and produced a >50% reduction in hepatic metastases in one individual.

  • Patent number: 7806268
Abstract: A sheet of material is divided into front and rear panels and folds over on itself to a folded position. The front panel has flaps and immediately adjacent hanger openings formed in it. When the flaps are pivoted outward, the spaces they vacated define flap openings. Hangers project from the rear panel and align with their corresponding hanger openings. To assemble the display, the flaps are pivoted outward to their open positions and the sheet is folded to the folded position. As the sheet is being folded, the hangers swingingly extend through the hanger and flap openings, which together form a single continuous opening. Once in the folded position, the flaps are then pivoted back to their closed positions with the hangers extending through and interlocked with the hanger openings.
