  • Patent number: 5076304
Abstract: A vehicle wash apparatus includes a reciprocating gantry-type framework with rotating fluid dispensers along an upper extent thereof and at opposite sides thereof which are adapted to be rotated to deliver washing fluid at the vehicle as the apparatus traverses the length of the vehicle. A tilt mechanism is provided so that the rotating manifolds can be tilted at opposite ends of the vehicle to direct the cleaning fluid at the ends of the vehicle when the apparatus is positioned adjacent the ends of the vehicle. A unique bearing seal element supports the rotating manifolds on a rotatably driven coupling from a motor so that liquid can be delivered to the rotating manifolds in a leak-free environment and over an extended life. An ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene material is utilized in bearing seal members in the element which serve both as a liquid seal and a bearing surface.

  • Patent number: 5040339
Abstract: An apparatus for polishing surfaces includes an elongated handle having a mounting head on one end thereof that carries a pair of counter rotating polishing drums. The mounting head is rotatably mounted on the end of the handle to permit rotation of the polishing drums in unison for easily following a contoured surface. The handle of the apparatus is hollow with an exhaust vent at a remote location from the rotating heads so that high-pressure air that is delivered through a conduit in the hollow handle to the pneumatic motors driving the polishing drums can be exhausted through the hollow handle which muffles the sound and also allows lubricant fluids conventionally entrained in the high-pressure air to be removed at a remote location from the polishing drums.

  • Patent number: 4975584
Abstract: A system for public display of ultraviolet radiation levels wherein said radiation is collected and measured by one or several optical collectors or sensor assemblies at remote sensing stations. Optical fibers receive and then convey the radiation of the sun through a filter and onto a photovoltaic sensor, measuring the intensity of the ultraviolet radiation. An electrical signal proportional to the ultraviolet radiation is produced with the signal being amplified and either used directly as analog data or converted to a digital signal for the modulation of a radio transceiver. The signal is transmitted to a transceiver of a central data processing station, where it is processed. The processed signal is retransmitted to a receiver in which the processed signal carrier is demodulated and the signal fed to a display station providing the level of exposure to the public.

  • Patent number: 4964984
Abstract: A blood filter device for separating gas bubbles from a flow of blood includes a filter medium in a lower body portion of the device through which the blood must flow before being directed through an outlet tube. An upper cap sealed to the top of the lower body portion includes a blood inlet tube into which a conical dispersion plate is projected so as to decrease the rate of flow of the blood. The rate of flow further decreases as it enters a debubbling chamber in the cap. A top wall of the cap defines a sloped and arched channel around the inlet tube adapted to direct released gas toward a vent tube at the uppermost extent of the sloped top wall.

  • Patent number: 4960276
Abstract: An apparatus for closely simulating cross country skiing includes a platform on which right and left foot engaging supports are disposed for reciprocatory sliding movement with right and left hand engaging members being operatively connected to the foot engaging supports to reciprocate in a pattern simulating cross country skiing. A control system is employed for controlling the relative movement of the foot engaging supports and hand engaging members so that a slight amount of play exists between the foot engaging supports permitting a smooth gliding motion. Means are also provided in the control system for allowing the hand engaging members to move twice as fast as the foot engaging supports so that the relative movement between the hand engaging members and foot engaging supports more closely resembles actual cross country skiing.

  • Patent number: 4890065
Abstract: A time delay corrector corrects the relative time delay or phase error between two signals, for example, stereo audio signals. A window of no correction is established between two threshold levels. So long as a signal representative of the relative phase error on a relatively fast integration basis does not logically exceed the thresholds which define this window, no rapid phase error or time delay correction is accomplished. The window of zero correction thereby prevents any time delay or phase error corrections which might otherwise result from the normal phase fluctuations inherent in the two correlated stereo signals, thereby preserving the stereo imaging and information content of those signals. Upon the occurrence of the need for a relatively major time delay error correction, such as that which originates with tape splices and the like, detection signals logically exceed the thresholds of the window and a phase correction is rapidly attained.

  • Patent number: 4874299
Abstract: A precision pump for moving small volumes of fluid includes an electromagnet in which is reciprocally mounted an armature carrying a diaphragm on one end such that upon reciprocal movement of the armature an alternating high and low pressure can be created in a pumping chamber to move fluid through the pump. In one embodiment of the pump, the electromagnet drives the armature in one direction and a spring returns the armature to effect the reciprocating movement while in a second embodiment a pair of electromagnets are axially aligned and cooperate with a pair of magnets on the armature to alternately move the armature in a linear reciprocating motion as current is alternately applied to the electromagnets.

  • Patent number: 4871677
Abstract: An inhibitor of platelet-related procoagulant activity is included in a collection medium into which a whole blood sample is collected. The inhibitor prevents an initial drop in the recalcified activated clotting time measured during an assay test conducted on the whole blood sample collected in citrate in the medium. The discovery of the problem of the initial drop in the activated clotting time and the solution of including the inhibitor of the procoagulant activity is of considerable importance in heparin therapy, since the initial drop in the activated clotting time of heparinized blood is substantial. The inhibitor can be included with a calcium chelating agent in the collection medium. Prostacylin and imidazole, which is an inhibitor of platelet thromboxane A2 synthesis, are effective inhibitors of this platelet-related procoagulant activity.
