Abstract: A refuse compacting system having an elongated hopper of rectangular cross-section with an ejection opening at one end, a tailgate movable for opening and closing the ejection opening, a refuse entry opening in the top of the hopper, a compactor within the hopper, located at one end, and pairs of dual parallel connected cylinders for moving the compactor towards the ejection opening and back again.

Abstract: The invention comprises a method and apparatus for providing secure access to a restricted access device, associated with a telephone answering unit at a first location from a second location across a telephone system. The method comprises the steps of at the first location, automatically responding to a telephone call to the first location from the second location to automatically generate and deliver a request signal requiring a coded response to the second location across the telephone system, at the second location, automatically responding to the request signal to automatically generate and deliver a coded transmit signal to the first location across the telephone system, and, at the first location, automatically responding to the coded transmit signal to automatically establish communication connection between the first and second locations across the telephone system.

Abstract: A breathing valve having a valve chamber connectable to a gas supply and to a breathing device, a gas flow opening for exit of exhaled gases through which atmospheric air may be inducted into the chamber, a valve member in the chamber, a one-way flow opening in the valve member through which gas may flow from the chamber for breathing, and preventing return flow in the opposite direction, a movable valve closure forming part of the valve member movable into and out of sealing engagement with the exit gas flow opening, and a pressure responsive device in the valve member responsive to obstruction of gas flow into the chamber and further responsive to inspiratory effort by a patient to cause the valve member to move away from the exit gas flow opening for permitting air flow through the exit gas flow opening into the chamber for inhalation.

Abstract: A hacksaw apparatus, for use in association with a work piece and a source of pressurized hydraulic fluid, wherein the hacksaw apparatus comprises a frame, adaptable to receive and support the work piece, hydraulic cylinders mounted to the frame, and connectable to the source of pressurized hydraulic fluid, a hacksaw support structure attached to the hydraulic cylinders, whereby operation of the hydraulic cylinders may move the hacksaw support structure relative to the frame, at least one hacksaw slidably mounted to the hacksaw support structure, hacksaw operators operable to move the hacksaw against the work piece and to maintain pressure between the hacksaw and the work piece during a hacksaw cutting stroke.

Abstract: A proximity monitoring system for individually identifying an object or person, and having a central information processor, and a signal receiver, several remote detectors in various locations at a distance from the information processor, each having a first transmitter for communicating with such processor and having a second transmitter and a receiver, and several individual personalized portable identifiers, each identifier having a continuously activated receiver, a signal transmitter which is normally de-activated, a battery pack, and a switch operated by the receiver in response to a signal from a detector, to switch the battery on to activate the transmitter, for emitting a personalized coded identification signal.

Abstract: A money operated control is used to control and operate a selected one of a plurality of electrical units such as washing, drying or gas dispensing machines. Each such unit includes a unit controller device operable to control the functioning of the unit upon delivery of a start signal to the unit controller device. The start signal is generated by actuating a select switch which corresponds to the desired machine. Each select switch is defined by two normally closed switches which are ganged together with a normally open switch.

Abstract: An intermediate frame for a sign box of the type having a first hinging member around its perimeter, and having an outer face frame for supporting a face panel, the intermediate frame having a generally rectangular construction with two ends, and a top and bottom joining at corners, each of them having an outer wall, a face panel support connected with the outer wall and extending inwardly, for supporting a face panel, a first hinging portion connected to the outer wall, and extending in a rearward direction for hinging interengagement with the first hinging member on the sign box, a second hinging member connected to the outer wall, and extending in a forward direction, to receive a second hinging portion carried on the outer face frame.Also included are a series of face frames for supporting a panel of flexible sign material, and panel tensioning members for use therewith. Such face frames may be hingedly mounted to a sign box, fixed to a vertical structure, and retrofitted to an existing sign box.
