  • Patent number: 5087250
Abstract: The disclosure herein sets forth a pleural drainage/autotransfusion unit in combination with a cardiotomy reservoir having a vacuum regulating chamber in connected relationship to the pleural drainage/autotransfusion unit. The vacuum regulating chamber is formed of a portion of said cardiotomy reservoir unit and extends along the axial direction of the reservoir of the autotransfusion unit and can be connected to a source of vacuum. A water seal is interposed between the vacuum regulating chamber and the interior of the reservoir in order to provide for water sealed negative pressure within the reservoir. The function of the cardiotomy reservoir and the pleural drainage/autotransfusion unit can be changed by means of connections that have spring loaded tangs that engage a flange of a barbed inlet port.

  • Patent number: 5080867
Abstract: A process for the detection of carbonyl sulfide in a gas such as carbon dioxide is provided. The process comprises providing a known volume of gas to be analyzed and removing any hydrogen sulfide from the gas as by passage through a lead acetate column. The carbonyl sulfide is then converted to hydrogen sulfide. Preferably, this is accomplished by passage of the gas through acidified water and subsequent reaction by contact with an alumina hydrolysis catalyst. The converted H.sub.2 S is then detected and measured. The amount of hydrogen sulfide detected represents an equimolar amount of carbonyl sulfide present in the original volume of gas.

  • Patent number: 5022560
Abstract: A beverage container having a spigot with a faucet for dispensing beverages. The spigot is removably secured within the walls of the beverage container by a hex nut having exterior protuberances or nibs. The faucet is removably secured to the spigot outside of the beverage container by a winged connector backed by a spring clip for removably securing the spigot to the faucet. The winged connector is used as a key for engaging the nibs or protuberances of the securement nut for causing it to turn and be tightened or loosened from the threads of the spigot, thereby allowing the removal of the spigot from the beverage container.

  • Patent number: 4991686
Abstract: A stethoscope including a stethoscope head, a pair of ear tips, and binaural tube means providing two individually separate air passages including a longer passage and a shorter passage extending between the stethoscope head and each ear tip. A substantially U-shaped binaural yoke includes channel members for receipt of the binaural tube members whereby the longer tube can be retained within the yoke without producing any sharp bends which would cause a loss of sound transmission. the stethoscope is designed to be made entirely of plastic materials.

  • Patent number: 4984913
Abstract: A dot matrix line printer is disclosed in which the amount of wear of an ink ribbon is measured by continuously compiling data representing impacting action of the printer as the printer prints. In a first embodiment, this is accomplished by initially determining a dot count based on the length of the ribbon and representing the maximum theoretical useful life of the ink ribbon and then decreasing the initial dot count as printing thereafter commences. The dot count remaining is continuously divided by the initial dot count to determine the percentage of ribbon life remaining. When the dot count has been decreased substantially to zero, a worn ribbon indication is provided to initiate an audible or visible alarm and to prevent further printing until the worn ribbon is replaced. As printing occurs the dots actually printed are counted, and this count is applied to reduce the initial dot count at a rate determined by the type of printing being undertaken.

  • Patent number: 4980837
Abstract: A distinguishable siren sound pattern is produced within an emergency vehicle by automatically alternating the siren sound pattern from among a plurality of distinguishable types of separate siren sound patterns. One of said plurality of distinguishable type of sound patterns may be continuously generated or alternatively through momentary contact in a horn switch, automatically swept among a plurality of the distinguishable siren sound patterns according to a predetermined pattern. In the illustrated embodiment wail, yelp, high-low or hetro siren sound patterns are producible either through microprocessor control or through discretely switched waveform generators. The siren sound pattern is automatically alternated between wail and yelp or between high-low and hetro according to manually switch configurations and momentary activation of a horn ring switch.

  • Patent number: 4976392
Abstract: An improved ultrasonic wire bonding method and apparatus is disclosed having a wire delivery conduit for removing coil set in the wire through a serpentine movement prior to being bonded, which also provides sufficient drag to prevent displacement as the bonder with the wire is being moved from one location to another, and which orients the wire to said bonding tool end. An improved wire cutter moves independently of the wire bonding tool and is directly connected to the main Z positioning movement of said wire bonder so that the wire bonding tool and the cutter can move independently during the process. The wire bonding tool can be biased by a magnetic bias with an armature connected to the wire bonding tool. The wire bonding apparatus and the method provide a loop in the wire between first and second bonds by forming an arcuate bend in the wire as it moves away from the first point of bonding.

  • Patent number: 4969879
Abstract: The disclosure herein discloses a levered set of barbs, tangs or jaws for engaging a shoulder of a port from a body fluid device. The port of the body fluid device can have a shoulder or a series of barbs and a shoulder. Interiorly of the connector is a resilient interior member. The interior member is sloped interiorly to match the end region of the port. It receives the end of the port in displaced relationship in a manner whereby the interior member provides a seat that deforms against the end of the port as well as deforming outwardly to provide an angularly sloped member and a resilient seat in combination with each other for an expanded seated seal.

  • Patent number: 4928710
Abstract: The specification sets forth a mouthpiece for use with a snorkel with or without a purge valve for use in diving. The mouthpiece is attached to a snorkel by a conduit and terminates in upper and lower lip flanges for seating within the upper and lower lips. Extending between the upper and lower lip flanges is an upper plate web that conforms to the palate area of a user's mouth. Within the palate web is an opening toward the frontal area for receipt of user's upper front teeth. The mouthpiece incorporates a lower web that extends along the inner jaw region overlying the inner portion of a user's lower teeth. The lower web can include an opening for receipt of the user's lower front teeth or can be split in its conformation with a gap therebetween formed by two tabs that are rounded at their ends. The entire mouthpiece conforms and holds the snorkel in a user's mouth in a facile manner without the requirement of excessive biting and eliminates prior art lugs or bits.
