  • Patent number: 5570482
Abstract: A bed equipment using a supporter for a human body, such as an incapacitated patient, is used to raise the patient from a surface, such as a bed, so that a hammock may be spread on the bed and the patient lowered onto the hammock. The supporter is formed by inserting an arm and a belt into a sleeve, and fits between the patient and the bed without causing the patient pain. Preferably, the belt has holes in either end so that suspending strings may be engaged by hooks. The suspending strings are raised or lowered by preferably independent motors so that the patient can be raised or lowered comfortably. The suspending strings may be moved relative to each another or fixed relative to each other. Once the patient is on the hammock, the hooks are removed from the supporter and attached to the hammock. Various rails and motors allow the patient on the hammock to be moved horizontally from the bed over a bathtub or toilet, and then lowered and raised accordingly.

  • Patent number: 5522329
Abstract: A band feeding device feeds a selected one of a plurality of band-type materials (e.g. cloth tape, rubber) to a sewing machine for sewing to a ring-shaped garment such as, for example, the waist or crotch of a pair of trousers or briefs. One of a plurality of secondary rollers is moved to pinch its respective band between itself and a main roller. All other secondary rollers are moved away from the main roller, so that only the selected band is fed. This permits changing the type of band material being fed to the sewing machine without requiring the operator to remove and reinstall band materials each time. The number of elements in the overall device remains small, thus providing an inexpensive and compact device.

  • Patent number: 5509994
Abstract: A tie gun for tying elongated bundles with a polymeric material tape loop, the loop having overlapped tape lengths, the overlapped material being welded with an ultra sonic horn, this horn embodying a horn tip end which with a clamp, and an anvil arrangement holds the loop in such way that a tape stock section just upstream of the weldment is weakened by horn operation disrupting at least some of the molecular orientation in the material so that the stock can be separated from the loop with an upstream directed pulling force applied to the tape stock resulting in a severance that leaves no objectionable protuberance or tab at the weldment. The tie gun also includes a quick release for freeing a tape build up in the gun incident a tape feed jam. A face of the clamp, face surfaces of the anvils and the horn tip end define a funnel envelope to facilitate tape stock feed to tape loop forming jaws on the gun at the outset of a tying cycle.

  • Patent number: 5414630
Abstract: A vehicle-mounted navigation system initially computes an optimal route from a starting point to a destination. A microcomputer computes the total distance the vehicle has travelled from a signal obtained from an axle sensor and computes the bearing of the vehicle (azimuth) from a signal obtained from a geomagnetic sensor. Then the microcomputer computes the present position of the vehicle from the starting point of the vehicle, its total distance travelled, and its bearing. The system then selects and displays one from among a plurality of arrows stored in a memory, each arrow representing a direction spaced a predetermined angle from an adjacent arrow, to guide the driver from the present position via the next intersection to the destination. This system also detects forked intersections, where two roads are close to the common direction represented by the arrow to be displayed.
