  • Patent number: 4853256
Abstract: A two-ply laminated record medium has a thermally reactive coating applied to the base sheet and the top sheet is applied to the base sheet by using a wet lamination process. The coating provides sufficient adhesion to prevent separation of the top sheet and the base sheet during printing, while allowing for ease of separation of the two sheets after printing.

  • Patent number: 4850725
Abstract: A ribbon is driven past the printing station of a printer only when the print head is moved in the right-to-left direction across the printer. An endless timing belt causes rotation of a gear pulley that is in mesh with an idler gear. The idler gear is supported on a pair of projecting fingers of a plate that is swingable on the center of the gear pulley. The idler gear is responsive to the direction of rotation of the gear pulley through a drag effect of the projecting fingers with the bottom surface of the idler gear.

  • Patent number: 4840502
Abstract: A cassette for an endless thermal ribbon utilized in a thermal printer with the ribbon being unwound from the inside diameter of a spool and rewound on the outside diameter of the spool. The ribbon is guided from the spool to effect an approximate 10 degree skew in its path past the thermal print head and then in contact with a ribbon drive roller prior to rewinding on the spool. A plurality of guide ribs are disposed in radial manner to guide and hold the ribbon in its winding and unwinding motion.

  • Patent number: 4832306
Abstract: The motor mounting bracket is of one piece construction and includes an enclosure formed to contain the mounting flange of the motor and to substantially enclose the motor. The bracket has oppositely positioned spring-like lugs with tips for receiving and securing the mounting flange, and the mounting bracket has a pair of pilot studs matching apertures in the mounting flange for securing the motor flange against movement. The mounting bracket enables a motor to be secured without use of separate screws, bolts, nuts and like parts.

  • Patent number: 4828156
Abstract: A process for monitoring defects in the material of a moving web of paper or defects in operations performed on the web of paper. An air brush spray head applies ink for a predetermined duration at a location along an edge of the moving web of paper during a press operation and after a predetermined period of time to indicate that a defect has passed. A scanner senses the ink during a subsequent collating operation so that the process line can be stopped and the defect corrected. The location of the ink on the web of paper is at a point wherein the defect has passed and good material is present.

  • Patent number: 4818132
Abstract: A protective member in the form of an opaque brush operates as a non-reflective shield to an optical sensor while protecting such sensor against ambient light. The brush also provides for removal of contamination from the surface of the optical sensor as a slip or like document is inserted along a guide by causing the brush to swing across such surface.

  • Patent number: 4806948
Abstract: Apparatus for separating a thermal transfer ribbon from a recording medium includes an elongated member which is positioned adjacent the ribbon and is movable to a position in contact with the ribbon for stripping the ribbon from the recording medium after a printing operation. The elongated member may take the shape and form of a blade or the member may be a wire for stripping the ribbon from the medium.

  • Patent number: 4787760
Abstract: A moving piezoelectric type crystal element drives a print wire in the direction of a platen and against the resilience of return spring and a rebound spring. A voltage pulse is applied through a conductor and across the piezoelectric element to cause displacement or elongation strain thereof to drive the print wire into impact with the platen and upon impact of the print wire a voltage pulse is generated across the piezoelectric element which generated pulse is recovered through the conductor.

  • Patent number: 4783184
Abstract: A ribbon cassette for an endless ribbon comprises a first portion and a second portion of substantially identical structure and each portion includes a dam adjacent the exit port of the cassette. A ramp is formed adjacent each dam for centering the ribbon as it travels from the ribbon chamber between the ramps and the dams for providing improved tracking and control of the ribbon through the exit port.

  • Patent number: 4781477
Abstract: A piezoelectric crystal element is resiliently urged to a home position and drives a plunger member and a print wire in printing operation. Upon rebound movement, the crystal element contacts a step portion of the print head housing to inhibit oscillation of the crystal element more rapidly than oscillation of the plunger member.

  • Patent number: 4780006
Abstract: In a slip printer, the slip is inserted or placed on the slip table at 90.degree. to normal orientation to accommodate slips which are wider than the print station. Character data and space data are input into memory and printing is done by shifting out character data along with space data on either side of the character in dot by dot manner. A pattern processing section is capable of changing the arrangement of the dot pattern read out from memory, a space data generating section is adapted to output space data signals before and after output of pattern data from the processing section, and a print data buffer stores the process data and the space data for one line dot row prior to printing.
