Patent number: 6842081Abstract: An oscillator for generating a fundamental frequency signal and harmonic signal to provide multiple radio frequency signals. First and second bipolar transistors are differentially connected, and have base and collector terminals cross-coupled. A pair of inductors serially connect the collectors of the transistors to one terminal of a d.c. power supply source. A current source connects to the other terminal of the d.c. power supply source and to the emitters of the differentially connected transistor. A tuning capacitor connected between collector terminals establishes a resonant frequency for the oscillator. Crosscoupling is affected at a level that produces harmonic signals which can be used along with a fundamental frequency signal in numerous radio telecommunications applications.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2002Date of Patent: January 11, 2005Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Xudong Wang, Xiaodong Wang

Patent number: 4686699Abstract: A call progress monitor for a computer telephone interface system. Energy detectors are connected to receive signals from a telephone line. A bandpass filter is connected to the telephone line, having selectable center frequency. A counter-timer connected to count clock pulses is reset by the energy detector and timing commences in response to the presence of a signal on the telephone line. The counter will result in a center frequency control means for the filter being slewed over a bandwidth of interest, in synchronism with the counting of the timer-counter. A signal detector connected to the filter indicates the presence of a pair of signal tones passing through the filter as it is slewed. Decoding means are connected to the counter-timer and the signal detector for generating a binary signal indicating the frequency of the bandpass filter which passes each signal tone. The binary signal is entered in a data register, and an interrupt posted to a host computer.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1984Date of Patent: August 11, 1987Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Bruce J. Patent number: 4123775Abstract: Apparatus and method for establishing the proper signal levels for exciting the red, green, and blue inputs to a picture tube in a color television receiver are described. An R. F. signal for producing illumination of a limited portion of a color picture tube face is supplied to the color television receiver. Another signal, from the apparatus, is connected to the video amplifier of the receiver to maintain the picture tube light output level constant at one or the other of two predetermined levels. A plurality of photo diodes, color filters, and electrical circuits are used to monitor the level of red, green, and blue light produced in response to the signal. The proper color temperature is realized by adjusting the gainof the R, G, and B amplifiers while monitoring the respective levels of green, red and blue light produced by the picture tube.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1977Date of Patent: October 31, 1978Assignee: The Magnavox CompanyInventor: Anthony R. Patent number: 4075661Abstract: An apparatus is described for automatically restoring the loss of high frequency components in the luminance signal of a television receiver. The luminance signal is continuously sampled and a signal representing the high frequency content in the luminance signal is used to alter the frequency characteristics of the luminance signal path so as to maintain the frequency spectrum of the luminance signal substantially constant. Additionally, the frequency alteration of the luminance signal path is made responsive to the dynamic level of the video signal to provide increased peaking in the gray picture areas relative to the higher level whites. The system also functions to reduce the upper video spectrum noise level.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1976Date of Patent: February 21, 1978Assignee: The Magnavox CompanyInventor: Charles Buckner Heffron

Patent number: 4045777Abstract: A remote control transmitter and receiver for controlling all of the usual viewer-adjustable functions of a television receiver. A plurality of key/switches permit the viewer to select the channel to be tuned and the function to be controlled. Digital logic circuits generate pulse coded signals that identify channel numbers or controlled functions. Patent number: 4020419Abstract: An all electronic tuning system is described for establishing a frequency of a local oscillator in a television receiver. When a channel selection is made, a number representing the desired channel is entered in a memory circuit. A first plurality of frequencies is generated in response to a channel selection, and a VCO employed as a local oscillator is caused to increase in frequency. When the VCO frequency differs from the first plurality of frequencies by a predetermined amount, a second plurality of frequencies is generated. Each frequency generated in said second plurality of frequencies is compared with said VCO frequency. When a predetermined difference exists between said VCO frequency and said second plurality of frequencies, a count is recorded. When the recorded count is equivalent to the number obtained in the memory circuit, the VCO tuning is inhibited and the VCO frequency is stabilized until a subsequent channel selection is made.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 1974Date of Patent: April 26, 1977Assignee: The Magnavox CompanyInventors: Fred W. Caspari, Wayne C. Johnson
