  • Patent number: 4062224
Abstract: Apparatus for the determination of the brake actuation and release time for pneumatic brake systems. The brake tester is pneumatically connected to both an external source of pressure and the vehicle reservoir with a solenoid valve disposed between the external source and the vehicle reservoir so that an operator may incrementally increase the pressure within the reservoir. The brake tester includes a timing circuit which begins to run upon movement of the vehicle brake pedal and stops upon the attainment of predetermined pressure value within the vehicle brake chambers. The timing circuit also includes memory means to store the results of the brake actuation test so that both a brake actuation and release test may be sequentially conducted without interruption.

  • Patent number: 4061034
Abstract: A device operable in response to an input fluid force includes a housing having an inner surface and a fluid pressure responsive member carried within the housing and having a surface that abuts the inner surface of the housing. The surfaces are curved and their curvatures differ so that the fluid responsive member makes a rocking contact with the housing surface. A first force is exerted on the fluid pressure responsive member at one point and a variable force to be measured is exerted against the fluid pressure responsive member at a second point so that the point of contact of the curved housing surface and the curved surface of the fluid pressure responsive member varies as a function of the two forces.

  • Patent number: 4060581
Abstract: A composite burial vault is provided having a hollow liner constructed of a synthetic plastic resinous material which is filled with concrete. In constructing the burial vault, the liner is constructed from thermosetting resinous material in any conventional method. While the liner is still wet, aggregate is applied to the surface of the liner by a flocking gun or the like. Concrete is then poured between a mold and the treated surface of the liner where it forms a mechanical bond to the coarse aggregate coating on the liner.

  • Patent number: 4053252
Abstract: A cutting tool holder for rotatably supporting a cutting bar is provided in which the radial distance between the axis of rotation of the cutting tool holder and the cutting edge of the cutting bar is adjustable. The cutting tool holder comprises a hub member having one axial end secured to a rotating machine and an eccentric bore formed in the other axial end of the hub member. The cutting bar is secured to a bar holder having a shank which is rotatably received in the eccentric bore. A circular drive plate is fastened across the inner axial end of the bar holder and limits axial movement, but permits rotation of the bar holder within the eccentric bore. A compressible biasing member urges axial separation of the drive plate and the housing to functionally lock the bar against rotation during use.

  • Patent number: 4050223
Abstract: A table is adapted to receive the shrunk foil package, and its top is substantially the same in size or somewhat smaller than the base surface of the package. A pressing platen is adapted to be lowered on to the package, for clamping and holding firm the bottles. A cutting device cuts open the shrunk foil around the periphery of the package. A gripping device folds downwards the edge, produced by cutting open, of the lower shrunk foil part, over the table top. A frame can be fitted over the platen and the package holds together the bottles after moving the platen clear of them and with which the bottles can be pushed off the lower part of the shrunk foil.

  • Patent number: 4048719
Abstract: A hand-held cutting device is provided for opening cartons, such as cardboard boxes, without damaging the contents within the carton. The cutting device comprises a handle having an elongated flat bottom surface which is adapted to slide along the outer surface of the carton during a cutting operation. A cutting blade is secured to the handle and extends outwardly through an opening in the bottom surface of the handle for engaging and cutting the carton. A guard is secured to the cutting blade across its outwardly extending end and includes a portion extending forwardly of the cutting edge of the cutting blade. This forward portion of the guard is curved towards the handle and serves to deflect the contents of the carton away from the cutting blade during a cutting operation. Preferably the upper front edge of the guard forms a second cutting edge so that the guard easily pierces the carton during the initiation of a cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 4046487
Abstract: A turbine blade indexing assembly adapted for variably adjusting the pitch of the turbine blades in a turbine wheel. The indexing assembly includes a housing secured to a turbine hub and an indexing ring contained between the housing and the hub and adapted for limited rotational movement relative to the housing. A plurality of radial bores are formed around the periphery of the housing and each bore is adapted to receive a cylindrical shank of the turbine blade therethrough. A blade retainer ring, having a transverse bore adapted to register with a transverse bore formed through the turbine blade shank, is positioned on each turbine blade shank so that a pin member inserted through the registering bores in the shank and retainer ring rotatably secures the turbine blade to the housing. One end of the pin member is received in an actuator slot formed in the indexing ring so that rotational movement of the indexing ring produces a corresponding axial rotation of the turbine blades.

  • Patent number: 4046019
Abstract: A locking device for a lift having a base and a lifting platform which may be variably elevated above the base of the lift. The locking device comprises an elongated gear rack secured at one end to the lifting platform of the lift and slidably received within a housing secured to the base of the lift. A first gear, having its axle secured to the housing, is positioned within the housing so that the first gear continually meshes with the gear rack. A second gear is also disposed in the housing and is movable between a first and a second position. In the first position the second gear meshes only with the gear rack thus permitting longitudinal movement of the gear rack whereas in the second position the second gear meshes with both the gear rack and the first gear thus forming a three point gearing system and preventing further longitudinal movement of the gear rack.
