Abstract: An electronically controlled power steering system for motor vehicles is disclosed for steering dirigible wheels in response to an input torque applied to a steering wheel. The power steering system includes a mechanical steering gear mechanism coupled to the steering wheel for generating a mechanically derived steering force in response to the input torque. A power cylinder is coupled to the mechanical steering gear mechanism for producing a hydraulically derived steering force which augments the mechanically derived steering force. A control valve is provided which is in fluid communication with the power cylinder for generating differential pressure applied to the power cylinder. A first signal is generated which is indicative of the input torque applied to the steering wheel. A signal processing unit generates an output signal in response to the first signal.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a hydro-mechanical or electro-hydro-mechanical control system utilized for positioning a mechanical device. The control system incorporates an open-center control valve for selectively controlling the differential pressure applied to and the differential flow between input ports of a power output transducer in response to a mechanically applied rotational inputs. The power output transducer is then utilized to position a mechanical device. The control system is a closed loop circuit adapted to supply hydraulic fluid at a desired supply pressure to the control valve. The supply pressure is varied in relation to the absolute value of the pressure differential or load pressure exerted across the input ports of the power output transducer.

Abstract: A system is disclosed for assembling and balancing automotive wheels. Each wheel includes a wheel rim having a valve stem opening and a tire adapted to be mounted on the rim. The circumferential position and magnitude of any tire imbalance is marked on the tire. A plurality of valve stems is also provided wherein the valve stems vary in weight from each other. The tire is positioned with respect to the rim so that the valve stem opening is substantially diametrically opposed to the circumferential position of the tire imbalance and a valve stem having a weight substantially the same as the magnitude of the tire imbalance is then positioned in the valve stem opening. The tire is then inflated thus completing the assembly and balancing of the tire.
Abstract: A rodless piston and cylinder assembly having an improved cable connection between the ends of the piston and the working unit in the form of a band of plastic and coated stainless steel strip. The exterior surface of the band is curvilinear and cooperates with the curvilinear slot shape of piston and cylinder plastic sealing grommets. Braking of the working unit is accomplished by pistons in the carriage acting against the carriage slide.
Abstract: A method for performing a vitrectomy on an eye is disclosed for removing the vitreous humor from the eye. The method comprises the first step of introducing plasmin into the vitreous humor in order to induce a posterior vitreous detachment. Thereafter, the vitreous is removed by conventional methods and replaced with a sterile saline solution.

Abstract: A screen for use with a vehicle window. The screen has a screen portion and a surrounding frame. The frame is secured by securing means along the edge of a vehicle window frame interiorly of the vehicle window. The window is hingedly attached along one edge to a side of the vehicle. An engaging arm mechanism is provided and is pivotal to actuate the window from a closed to an open position. An aperture is provided in the screen to permit passage therethrough by the arm mechanism. A flexible material is attached over the screen aperture and is secured between the pivoting arm and the window. The arm mechanism pivots open the window from within the flexible material so that the opening created by the aperture is covered.
Abstract: A connection assembly for vehicle engine coolant circuits, wherein a tubular multiway distributing element presents respective tubular appendixes fitted with the end portion of a branch pipe. The pipe and tubular appendix are made integral by means of a tubular coupling molded in one piece on the end portion of the pipe, on a relatively small portion connecting with the appendix.

Abstract: A vibration and sound proofing system for a working vehicle such as a tractor or a lawn mower having a hydrostatic stepless transmission (HST) included in a propelling transmission system for transmitting engine output to wheels. The HST is mounted in a case secured to intermediate mounting plates attached to a gear transmission case through vibration and sound absorbers. Output shafts of the HST are connected to input shafts of a gear transmission through vibration absorbing shaft couplings.Each of the vibration absorbers includes a metallic outer tube, a metallic inner tube disposed concentrically with the outer tube, and a rubber element filled tight in an annular space defined between the outer and inner tubes.

Abstract: A knuckle connector is used to connect spacedly end knuckles of a chain strand to form a chain loop. The knuckle connector includes a pair of link units, each of which has a link pin and an oval-shaped link plate formed with a circular through-hole on one end and a retaining hole on an opposite end. The link pin has a head secured in the through hole and a tail end formed with a peripheral channel. The link pin of one of the link units extends through a pin hole formed in a corresponding one of the end knuckles such that the peripheral channel initially extends into a large insert part of the retaining hole in the link plate of a remaining one of the link units. The peripheral channel of the link pin of one of the link units engages the link plate of the remaining one of the link units in a diameter-reduced retaining part of the retaining hole when the end knuckles are pulled apart.
Abstract: An apparatus for electrical discharge machining (EDM) is disclosed having a housing and a workpiece support assembly secured to the housing for holding a workpiece in a predetermined location. An EDM electrode is attached to the housing for performing the EDM machining. A tank assembly is also attached to the housing and movable between a machining position and a retracted position. In the machining position, the tank assembly encompasses a workpiece secured to the workpiece support area and filled with a dielectric fluid necessary for the EDM machining process. In its retracted position, the tank assembly is spaced away from the workpiece to facilitate access to the workpiece for removal of the finished workpiece and reattachment of a new workpiece in preparation for the next EDM machining operation.
Abstract: A hydraulic circuit for a working vehicle comprising a first pump, a second pump, a first actuator, a second actuator, and a selector valve having a plurality of control positions. The selector valve is switchable between a first position for connecting the first pump to the first actuator and the second pump to the second actuator, and a second position for connecting the first pump and the second pump to the second actuator. This circuit includes a first relief valve disposed between the selector valve and the first pump, and a second relief valve disposed between the selector valve and the second pump. The first relief valve is set to a higher relief pressure than the second relief valve.
Abstract: A doll having a sensor for determining the insertion of a top portion of a nursing bottle. The sensor includes a movable portion pivoting in response to insertion of the top portion of the nursing bottle. A contact point secures to one end of the movable portion and engages a contact member in order to cause a sound to be emitted by the doll. The sound is emitted from a speaker placed within the doll. A pair of pressure activated switches are also provided in the doll and operate in conjunction with the sensor to generate varied vocal responses.
Abstract: A fuel cell includes a plurality of cells. Each cell has a three-layer plate member having an electrolyte layer, an oxygen electrode attached to one face of the electrolyte layer and a fuel electrode attached to the other face of the electrolyte layer. The cell also has a separator affixed only to the oxygen electrode and an oxygen-containing gas flow passage formed between the oxygen electrode and the separator. A plurality of fuel flow passages are formed between an adjacent pair of the cells as assembled. First and second partition wall members are respectively disposed tightly adjacent a pair of opposed end faces of the cell to which faces the oxygen-containing gas flow passage is closed by the separator. Third and fourth partition wall members are respectively disposed along a pair of opposed cell edge portions where the oxygen-containing gas flow passage is open between the pair of cells. The first and second partition wall members have end portions thereof projecting relative to the cell.
