  • Patent number: 4748750
Abstract: An athletic shoe of the type having an elongated sole, a front, a back, an inner side and an outer side and at least one cleat extending outwardly from the sole. The cleat includes a forwardly facing surface and an outwardly facing surface which taper towards each other and meet each other adjacent one side of the sole so that the forwardly facing and outwardly facing surfaces are generally V-shaped when viewed in plan. An inwardly facing surface extends longitudinally between the other ends of the forwardly and outwardly facing sides. In use, the inwardly facing surface of the cleat provides traction as the athlete steps sidewardly. Conversely, the tapering forward and outwardly facing surfaces minimize traction in the event of a transverse blow to the athlete's legs.

  • Patent number: 4745253
Abstract: An EDM device includes two support bars bearing on the same reference surfaces as the workpiece. Gibs are provided which engage into driving units able to displace them axially while holding them at a small distance under one support bar. The other support bar carries the receiving units wherein the gibs engage at the end of their stroke. Each driving unit may push the gib engaged therein against the lower surface of the respective bar. Whenever one or several such gibs are stopped under a part cut out of the workpiece, the part will lie thereon and remains fixed even after the electrode has completed a closed path cutout by electroerosion separating the cut-out part from the workpiece. The cut-out part may then be automatically removed by means of a mobile member equipped with a suction cup.

  • Patent number: 4742648
Abstract: A twist drill sharpening tool comprises a body housing a cylindrical rotatable grindstone with a small diameter and longer axis, and a drill holder which can be fitted into a bore in the body so as to hold the tip of a twist drill in contact with the curved surface of the grindstone at a position which is offset from the centreline and inclined at between 10.degree. and 12.degree. from a diametral plane of the grindstone passing through the drill tip contact line with the grindstone. A face cam is engaged by a cam follower of the drill holder so as to vary the projection distance of the drill as it is turned, carried by the holder, around its own axis. The bore for the drill holder may be formed in part of the body which can be moved to different positions to vary the drill tip angle.

  • Patent number: 4743730
Abstract: A device installed on a traveling wire EDM apparatus for straightening the electrode wire and providing the electrode wire with a needle point end for facilitating manual threading of the electrode wire through close tolerance closed wire guide members. The device takes the form of a pair of spaced-apart current conductive metallic studs, a heat shield being located at some intermediate portion between the metallic studs. The metallic studs are connected across a source of electrical power. A length of wire proximate its end is held manually over the metallic studs, with an intermediate portion of the wire disposed within the heat shield, and a pull is manually exerted on the wire beyond the metallic studs while the wire is being heated by electrical current flow through the wire between the two metallic studs. The wire is heat-straightened and ruptures at its portion within the heat shield, with sharp needle point ends being formed at the point of rupture.

  • Patent number: 4742205
Abstract: A method and apparatus for holding an electrically conductive workpiece in a machine tool by forming at least one positioning cavity or recess on a face of the workpiece by a holder having a tip used for machining the cavity or recess by a conventional EDM sinking operation. Subsequently to forming the cavity, the tip is used as one of the holding members for the workpiece. Two tips may be used to sink cavities or recesses on opposite surfaces of the workpiece, or the tips may take the form of fingers sunk into the workpiece from one side only. The tips form part of support members mounted on the end of displaceable arms for enabling the workpiece to be positioned relative to a tool or to be displaced. The tip-provided supports may be used for supporting a portion of the workpiece being cut off or severed from the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4739706
Abstract: A fuse comprises a cap carrying a rotor mounted in a rotatable fashion on a body with the help of a shaft and rotatable from an inactive position to an active position. A timer with an escapement permits the braking of the rotation of the rotor and has a multiplying gear carried by two frames and cooperating with a timing balance. The rotor is an integral part of a toothed sector meshing with the timer. The frames are mounted in a pivoting fashion on bearings of a shaft, which permits the angular displacement of the timer around this shaft to allow for the adjustment of the angular distance of meshing of the toothed sector with the timer and, therefore, the duration of passage from the safety position of the rotor to the armed position.

  • Patent number: 4738008
Abstract: Apparatus for forming a non-rotating helix of metal strip. The apparatus includes a store for the strip rotatable about the axis of the helix. The store has a radially inwardly facing circumferential opening from which the strip is withdrawn by guide shoes which are also rotatable about the axis of the helix but at a different rotational speed to that of the store so that the difference in diameter of the strip on leaving the store and entering the helix is accommodated. The guide shoes deliver the strip to guide rollers rotating with the guide shoes by which the strip is guided in a spiral to non-rotating helix-forming shoes from which the coils of the helix are delivered in an axial direction.
