  • Patent number: 7971804
Abstract: A channeled shaft check valve assembly includes a conduit with an internal valve seat with a central opening. An actuating member is contained inside the conduit between an outlet fixture and the valve seat. A valve member mounted within the sleeve includes a disc on the opposite side of the valve seat from the outlet end of the conduit and a channeled shaft extending outward from the center of the disc and through the central opening in the internal valve seat. The opposite end of the channeled shaft may also have a disc mounted thereto, allowing for a three position valve. The valve is urged closed under pressure unless an outlet fixture urges the valve open allowing fluid flow along the channeled shaft and through the central opening in the valve seat. In a two disc valve member, the valve may have two closed positions and one open position.

  • Patent number: 7953607
Abstract: A method of tracking and acting on events related to the delivery of a mail piece is provided. An integrated record associated with an addressee of a mail piece is created. The mail piece is given a unique identifier and the mail piece is associated with the addressee. The mail piece is placed in a mail stream and the date and nature of associated delivery events is recorded. After a predetermined delivery event occurs, a follow-up communication is transmitted to the addressee, and the date of this follow-up communication is recorded. The date of any response by the addressee to the follow-up communication is also recorded. To the integrated record associated with the addressee is added the date and nature of the delivery events associated with the mail piece, the date of the follow-up communication, and the date of any response by the addressee to the follow up communication.

  • Patent number: 7950412
Abstract: A toilet refill restrictor apparatus includes an adapter interposed between a fill valve and a refill hose. The adapter is non-removably coupled to the fill valve and is configured with a larger proximal pathway, and a smaller distal metering pathway for restricting the refill flow rate. The adapter may be coupled to a shortened horizontal outlet formed at a top portion of the fill valve. The horizontal outlet is shortened to a length such that the refill hose cannot be connected directly to the outlet. The adapter may also be coupled to a fill valve without a horizontal outlet where an exit port is defined in the vertical conduit of the fill valve. The adapter includes a securing mechanism to prevent removal from the fill valve without excessive force or breaking the adapter.

  • Patent number: 7900875
Abstract: A system and method of generating and distributing power includes one or more microwave power transmitters at locations on Earth adjacent natural fuel or power resources such as natural gas, oil, solid fuel, or geothermal energy. The fuel or energy source is converted into electricity on site, and the electricity is then converted into microwave power beams transmitted from the microwave power transmitter towards a redirector satellite in orbit about the Earth. The redirector satellite then sends one or more microwave beams to rectennas located in consumer nations at appropriate sites for feeding the power grid or to additional redirector satellites for directing to rectennas located on the far side of the Earth.

  • Patent number: 7900290
Abstract: A dual flush refill device refills a bowl of a siphonic toilet with adequate supply of refill water in response to either a full or partial flush without wasting the refill water. The device provides a relatively high flow rate of refill water from a refill tube to an overflow tube in response to a partial flush, and a relatively low rate of refill water from the refill tube to the overflow tube in response to a full flush. As a result, the toilet bowl is refilled with a substantially similar volume of refill water regardless of which flush option is selected.

  • Patent number: 7871533
Abstract: The present invention relates to compositions of a nanofluid, which comprises a thermal transfer fluid and carbon nanoparticles. The nanofluid may be hydrophilic nanofluids, such as a coolant, or hydrophobic nanofluids, such as nanolubricants or nanogreases. In particular, the present invention provides a homogenous hydrophilic nanofluid, which contains soluble carbon nanotubes in the hydrophilic thermal transfer fluid. The present invention also provides a nanogrease, which is a sustainable dispersion of solid carbon nanotubes in a hydrophobic thermal transfer fluid. The solid carbon nanotubes function as both as a thickener to modulate viscosity and as a solid heat transfer medium to enhance thermal conductivity and high temperature resistance.

  • Patent number: 7865419
Abstract: The present invention relates to, among other things, systems and methods for generating a metric of an entity's financial status relative to a financial goal. In generating the metric, the value of an entity's total assets is simulated over time based on data comprising historical rates of returns. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a computer system and method for generating a metric of an individual's probable present-day financial status relative to financial independence on a desired future date. In this embodiment, the metric is called a Financial Independence Score. The Financial Independence score is a single number that represents the individual's financial status relative to achieving financial independence by a desired date.

  • Patent number: 7825382
Abstract: Systems and methods are presented herein for generating an X-ray image where the X-ray image generator has no electrical connection with an X-ray source that generates the X-rays. In an exemplary embodiment a gamma detector is positioned behind an x-ray permeable mirror within an X-ray capture device. When the gamma ray detector senses gamma radiation over a threshold level, a camera, positioned outside of the X-ray path, begins capturing an image of the X-ray. The image is then discarded if an X-ray image profile is not then detected by the gamma detector within a period of time. Such an X-ray image profile may be detected if two or more X-ray pulses with similar intensity and duration are detected within a set period of time. If an X-ray image profile is detected, then the camera continues recording the X-ray image for a predetermined time.

  • Patent number: 7813833
Abstract: A system for automatic preparation of mail pieces for special service mailing has a transport device for transporting a series of mail pieces such as envelopes one-by-one in a first path, each envelope having imprinted information. A scanner in the first path reads predetermined information off each envelope. Return receipts are simultaneously fed in a second path past at least one printer, the second path joining the first path at a junction after the printer. The scanner is linked directly to the printer so that the information read from an envelope is immediately applied by the printer to the return receipt, and the prepared return receipt is then secured to the envelope.
