    Abstract: A low profile telecommunications fiber drop point of entry system for an interior room of an MDU, school, hotel, hospital, MTU or other commercial or residential location. The system includes a duct having one or more optical fiber communications lines and mountable to a first wall. The system further includes an access and storage structure at least partially disposable behind the first wall. The structure includes a first base unit having a first wall mounting portion and a first low profile cover, the cover being mountable over at least a portion of the duct. The first wall mounting portion includes a main port to fit over a hole formed in the first wall, the structure having a fiber slack storage area disposed between the first wall mounting portion and the first cover. The structure further includes an extension arm mounted to the first wall mounting portion and extending behind the first wall, the extension arm supporting a carrier configured to hold an optical fiber connector coupling device.

The polishing strip has a portion thereof extending through a passageway formed in the mount, where a first surface of the polishing strip is disposed proximate to an end face of the ferrule of the optical connector disposed in the mount. In an exemplary aspect, the polishing strip comprises one or more polishing media disposed on a backing material.

The splice device is configured to splice a first fiber end to a second fiber end. The main body also includes first and second fiber jacket clamping portions disposed at first and second ends of the main body to clamp a respective fiber's jacket portion that surrounds a portion of the respective fiber upon actuation. The optical fiber splice device also includes first and second fiber jacket boots that are attachable to the main body at the first and second ends of the main body. The boots each actuate the respective fiber jacket clamping regions of the optical fiber cables upon attachment to the main body.

    Abstract: A method for joining sections of coated pipe comprises providing two sections of metal pipe, each section of metal pipe having at least a first polymeric coating on its outer surface. The first polymeric coating comprises a first polymer coating selected from the group consisting of a first epoxy/olefin interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) layer, a thermoplastic layer, and a thermosetting layer. The sections of metal pipe are aligned end-to-end and bonded together to form a desired closure. A second polymeric coating comprising a layer of epoxy/olefin semi- or full-IPN is applied to the closure and to any desired additional area of coated pipe to form a seam and to secure the joint. A method for patching a damaged coated pipe using a patch comprising a polyolefin/epoxy semi- or full IPN is also disclosed.

    Abstract: An optical connector comprises a connector housing having splice means configured to abut a stripped and cleaved end surface of a plain fiber of an optical fiber cable onto an end of a fiber stub predisposed in the splice means to form an optical connection. A cable fixing assembly includes a cable fixing member and a cable holder for fixing an outer covering of the optical fiber cable introduced into said connector housing. The cable fixing member includes an opposing piece for slidably engaging with a guide section formed on the wall of an end cap of the connector housing. A step section is formed on the sliding surface of the opposing piece for sliding contact with the sliding surface of the guide section. The cable fixing member moves together with the optical fiber cable so as to reduce a distance between the splice means and the cable holder.

Slack storage is provided and includes one or more guides to route an accessed communications line to a coupling and to store excess amounts of the accessed communications line. The coupling device mounting area is configured to receive a coupling, adapter, or splice that connects the accessed communications line to a drop cable. The drop access location system and method can be utilized for horizontal cabling in multi-dwelling unit (MDU), multi-tenant unit (MTU) and other building applications. A system for installing the drop access location system is also provided.

The LC format connector further includes a trigger coupled to an outer surface of the housing backbone, the trigger including a second latch that engages the first latch when acted upon by a pressing force.     Abstract: A plug-type optical connector is provided with a ferrule and an aligning sleeve member. The aligning sleeve member receives a portion of the ferrule including an abutting end face inside a bore to prevent staining and damage and uses a movable shutter to prevent light emitted through the ferrule from leaking to the outside. The socket type optical connector is provided with a ferrule and a holding section. The optical connector is not provided with an aligning sleeve member and further can hold a coated optical fiber by a holding section behind the ferrule by a radius of curvature of at least a prescribed minimum radius of curvature. Optical loss in the coated optical fiber can be reduced while effectively reducing the external dimensions in the direction of extension of the ferrule at the time of use. An optical fiber connecting device that includes a combination of a pair of optical connectors is also provided to be suitably applied to an optical transmission line laid indoors.

The sensor is disposed on an engineered structure and is coated with a protective coating. The method includes providing a first optical signal having a first modulation frequency and amplitude. The method also includes transmitting the first optical signal and a second optical signal from a first location to a sensor location. The method also includes modulating the second optical signal with a second modulation frequency and amplitude, the second modulation frequency and amplitude converted from the first optical signal. The method also includes comparing the first modulation frequency to the second modulation frequency to determine one of a phase difference and a time lag and calculating the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of the sensor and its immediate surroundings as a function of frequency.

    Abstract: A watertight inlet device for inserting a cable containing optical fibers into a chamber or a container, e.g. into a splice box. The device includes a metal solepiece for securing the strength members of the optical cable, and which plugs into and fixes to a tubular sealing body equipped with an external O-ring gasket and having its rear portion shaped to form a sealing stuffing box on the outer sheath of the cable. The rear of the nut of the stuffing box receives a clamp for retaining the cable. Once the device has been fitted, the resulting assembly is inserted into the inlet passageway until it abuts against a shoulder in the passageway. Then only the head of the securing solepiece and a groove in the body project inside the container, the groove then receiving a key or fork for retaining the assembly.
