  • Patent number: 4773918
Abstract: A process for recovering the energy and chemical content of an aqueous black liquor utilizing a reactor containing a drying zone located above a gasification zone. The reactor contains a bed of porous solid carbonaceous material in the gasification zone. Heat losses are restricted, preferably from both zones, by the provision of a layer of insulating material about the reactor. An oxygen-containing gas is introduced into the gasification zone in an amount less than about 60% of that required for complete combustion of the black liquor such that there is produced partial combustion and gasification reactions sufficient to maintain the temperature at an upper surface of the bed in the range of from about 870.degree. to 1200.degree. C. and to form a hot combustible gas which rises from the gasification zone.

  • Patent number: 4748665
Abstract: An analog echo suppression circuit is used with a telephony 2-wire circuit to 4-wire circuit interface. The 2-wire circuit carries a first signal and the 4-wire circuit carries a second signal. Each circuit has an input port and an output port. The interface produces an echo signal on the output of the 2-wire circuit when the second signal is received at the input port of the 2-wire circuit. A first communication channel connects the output of the 4-wire circuit to the input of the 2-wire circuit. A second communication channel connects the output of the 2-wire circuit to the input of the 4-wire circuit and series analog switches or transmission gates can interrupt the second channel. A comparator circuit receives the first and second signals from the first and second channels and has first and second outputs.

  • Patent number: 4696016
Abstract: A digital clock recovery circuit is described which extracts the signal element timing from a return-to-zero data stream. A converter changes the bipolar digital data stream to at least one first return-to-zero data stream representing pulses in the bipolar digital data stream. In these streams, a logic one is typically represented by a pulse of undetermined width less than the bit period. A logic zero is typically represented by no pulse. A reference clock signal having a predetermined frequency is required by the circuitry. An edge detector detects the positive going edges of the pulses in the combined return-to-zero data stream, and generates load pulses to a counter which are synchronized to transitions of the reference clock signal. The counter receives the load pulses and utilizes reference clock signal to produce a recovered clock signal, skiping or repeating counter states to kepp the recovered clock signal aligned with the bipolar digital data stream.

  • Patent number: 4451842
Abstract: A photo-electric sensor comprised of a wafer of semiconductor material with a first plurality of photodetectors integral with its rear surface, its front surface being an electrode comprised of a transparent layer of electrically conductive material, has those detectors so spaced apart from each other that the total array can be sampled by a second plurality of charge coupled device multiplexers, each of which multiplexers has its input terminals spaced closer together than are the photodetectors. Each multiplexer input terminal is mechanically and electrically coupled to a photodetector through metallic leads and columns, such leads and columns being so configured as to preclude obtrusion of multiplexer structure into space outside the wafer's lateral extremities, which results in no "dead" space in a focal plane consisting of either one sensor or a plurality thereof abutting each other.

  • Patent number: 4442321
Abstract: A multilevel data base memory structure for use by the processor control of each of a plurality of interconnected telecommunication switching systems so that communications between any two of the systems can be established with minimal interaction by the users. A comprehensive directory number plan provides for the allocation of blocks of at least one hundred directory numbers (i.e. 2400-2499) to the stations or features of each switching system. For those directory numbers serviced by a switching system the thousands/hundreds digits are utilized as addresses of locations of the memory structure first table level, the contents of which are pointers to various sections of a second table level. Within each such section the tens/units digits are used as addresses to define a location having stored therein an ultimate system function representative of, for instance; a standard call, conference call, speed dial . . . etc.

  • Patent number: 4432134
Abstract: A method of forming a superconductor-barrier-superconductor junction device by the steps of depositing a first superconductive layer on a substrate, forming a barrier layer on the first superconductive layer and depositing a second superconductive layer on the barrier layer. A layer of photoresist is then deposited over the second superconductive layer and patterned together with the second superconductive layer to form a mesa structure. A dielectric layer is deposited over the mesa structure, and the photoresist layer portion is dissolved thereby lifting off the dielectric portion overlying said second superconductive layer portion.
