Patent number: 5625851Abstract: A composite guide rail for bellows type cameras is disclosed in which the composite rail is comprised of two rail pieces. A multi-fingered connecting insert has a base secured to the end of the first rail while the fingers conform to an inner cavity in one end of the second rail and can be slidably inserted-therein. A wedge having a threaded central bore is movably disposed between the plurality of fingers and is connected to a thumb screw by a threaded connecting rod, the thumb screw located at the opposite end of the first rail from the connecting insert. When the fingers are inserted into the cavity of the second rail and the thumbscrew turned in one direction, the fingers are expanded by the wedge being drawn therebetween such that the fingers come into pressing engagement with the walls defining the inner cavity of the second rail. When assembled, the first and second rails take on the aspect of a single rail.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 1996Date of Patent: April 29, 1997Inventor: William M. Boxer

Patent number: 5551178Abstract: A collapsible sign includes a flexible banner supported by a collapsible stand. The collapsible stand, of A-frame configuration, includes two pairs of legs at each end of a cross-member, the apex of each leg pair and cross-member end retained in a unique one-piece connector. Each connector has two leg cups and a cross-member cup attached to a base block by a living hinge. A latch and saddle releasably secure the cross-member cup to the base block in the erected position. A cammed key and keyway releasably lock the leg cups to one another in the erected position. There is a slight interference fit between the cups which assists securing them in the erected position. In breaking down the sign, each leg pivots toward its paired partner upon release of the key from the keyway and the cross-member likewise pivots toward the legs upon release of the latch resulting in all legs and the cross-member being generally parallel to one another in the collapsed position.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1995Date of Patent: September 3, 1996Assignee: Flexsign Inc.Inventors: James P. Foley, Robert J. Nadeau, Jan P. Ostendorf, Lawrence J. Whitehead

Patent number: 5404742Abstract: A method and device for hemming metal sheet involving upsetting the sheet metal to form a skirt at an angle to the parent sheet and for hemming the skirt to the parent sheet or another sheet interposed therebetween. Both skirt forming and hemming utilize rotary bending tools to convert perpendicular motion into rotational bending force. The novel device of the present invention is a rotary hemming tool having a cylindrical rocker characterized by a flat extending along its length with two lobes defining the intersection between the flat and the cylindrical surface of the rocker. The flat and the lobes are the surfaces of the rocker which act against the upset metal skirt and against the anvil on which the metal sheet is placed. The rocker and saddle are configured to limit rocker rotation such that skirt bending commences simultaneously with rocker contact rather than interaction between the rocker and the anvil.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 1993Date of Patent: April 11, 1995Assignee: Ready Tools Inc.Inventors: David M. Patent number: 5259521Abstract: This invention relates to a portable Tack Rack having sturdy framework construction and to a collapsible equestrian Tack Rack which may be readily assembled and disassembled. The Tack Rack includes two (2) rigid rectangular frames connected such that the frames fold one against the other and unfold such that at least one of the frames sit upright from a support surface. A plurality of extendable members lockably connect to the upright frame such that when extended the members are generally parallel to the support surface, and at least one of the members is adapted to adequately support a saddle placed thereon.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 1991Date of Patent: November 9, 1993Inventors: Don T. Patent number: 5240291Abstract: A novel coupler for use in sanitary transport of material which includes a female piece having a first end and a second end, the first end having an inner threaded surface defining an opening therein to receive an end of a hose, the second end having an inner threaded surface defining an opening adjacent and coaxial with the opening of first end to form a passageway along a central axis of the female piece allowing communication through the female piece, wherein the threaded surface of the first end has a relatively thin razor-like edge which extends diagonally inwardly toward the central axis and the second. A hollow male piece is provided having a tapered first end, an intermediate portion, and a second end. The intermediate portion has a portion of its outer surface threaded in a complimentary manner to the threaded opening of the second end of the female piece to allow receipt of the male piece therein.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1992Date of Patent: August 31, 1993Inventor: Jeffrey S. Patent number: 5217787Abstract: Material multi-faceted as to its advantageous properties and highly versatile in use and application comprises a very light, relatively thin, sheet-like structure, a layered composite of cellular and non-woven materials. Said structure is formed of layered sheets, bonded to one another, including a thin sheet of a cellular material the face(s) of which have a very thin sheet-like overlay of a non-woven permeable reinforcing material such as, preferably, rayon or nylon. The body of the cellular sheet material, preferably of plastic such as polyurethane, polyester or polyether, is characterized by innumerable extremely small, relatively minute pockets having extremely thin elastic wall portions through which fluid may readily pass to said pockets to store therein in amounts the volume of which may be a significant multiple of that originally defined by said wall portions.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 1991Date of Patent: June 8, 1993Assignee: The Thomas Monahan Co.Inventor: Patrick H. Patent number: 5210898Abstract: A broom assembly of a basically wooden push broom comprises a wooden head portion including top and bottom surfaces, leading and trailing edge portions and remote lateral extremities, considering the direction of its movement in use. This head has a laterally centered throughbore opening at one end from the tope thereof adjacent its trailing edge and at its opposite end from the bottom thereof, adjacent its leading edge. A counterbore of the upper end of this throughbore produces an outwardly and rearwardly facing annular shoulder in its bounding wall surface. Securely wedged within this throughbore, towards its bottom, is the short tubular body portion of a rigid plastic adapter means, an external flange at the base end of which overlies the bottom of the head and an external lip at the upper end of which clamps over the aforementioned shoulder in the wall bounding the upper end of the throughbore.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1991Date of Patent: May 18, 1993Assignee: Vining Industries, Inc.Inventor: Thomas J. Patent number: 5133111Abstract: This invention relates to a cam cleat device for use in gripping rope, lines, or the like. The device includes a base plate having a rope receiving surface portion along and against which the rope travels, a cam pivotally connected to the base plate, and a plurality of protrusions extending generally radially outwardly from the surface of the cam. The protrusions provide an improved bite when in operation so as to prevent rotational as well as translational movement of the rope when gripped.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1991Date of Patent: July 28, 1992Inventor: Michael A. Patent number: 5089089Abstract: A two stage sulfonation system includes a mixing tank, a retention tank, a thickening press, a pressurized vessel, and a liquor recovery press in series relation. A sodium sulfite generation unit is connected to maintain a supply of sodium sulfite solution in a holding tank from which a controlled quantity of said solution is metered and injected in the mixing tank. Liquor extracted in the thickening press is cycled back to the mixing tank. Liquor extracted in the recovery press is moved to an intermediate tank and then transferred to the sodium sulfite generation unit, there fortified with fresh sodium sulfite and forwarded to the holding tank to maintain therein an appropriate supply to service the system. The system is designed to receive mechanical pulp, in a slurry form, first introduced into the mixing tank simultaneously with a metered charge of sodium sulfite solution from the holding tank, the sodium sulfite content of which is at a level from about 40 to about 200 g/l.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1989Date of Patent: February 18, 1992Assignee: Bear Island Paper CompanyInventor: Serge B.
