  • Patent number: 3968067
Abstract: This process relates to the preparation of stable aqueous latices from solvent dispersions of elastomers and other high polymer compositions. The process in common with that of earlier applications is characterized, inter alia, by the establishment of a flow of gas comprising steam as a continuous phase into which an emulsion of a cement of the polymer is dispersed as an aerosol of latex droplets in a solvent-vapor continuum, followed by coalescence of the latex droplets and separation of the resulting coalesced liquid phase from the resulting solvent-vapor phase. In the present disclosure, special provisions are made for generating from recovered water saturated with solvent (and possibly contaminated with carry-over of macromolecular material and/or emulsifier and/or latex droplets) the gas comprising steam employed in forming the initial continuous phase.

  • Patent number: 3964599
Abstract: Ore pellets are delivered by a conveyor to the chain grate of a continuously operating baking plant, said pellets being supplied to the conveyor from a pellet former at a fluctuating rate independent of the speed of the conveyor. To afford as nearly constant a flow of the pellets to the baking plant as possible, the quantity of pellets about to be delivered by the conveyor at the delivery station is measured, more particularly by measuring the speed of the conveyor and weighing the conveyor load near said delivery station, and is represented by a first signal which is passed through a high-permeable filter and a proportional control means, to provide a second signal which is combined with a signal representative of a belt speed calculated for an average load, and applied to adjust the belt speed in the direction to maintain said flow as nearly constant as possible.

  • Patent number: 3964883
Abstract: In an air filter unit, after dust collected by the filter bag is shaken off and exhausted and before normal operation is effected, the air inside the filter chamber but outside the filter bag is fed into the filter bag or a separate dust collector, thereby preventing dust particles from being discharged into the atmosphere along with the clear filtered air during the initial stage of normal operation. Other advantages and details in the construction will be made clear.

  • Patent number: 3961685
Abstract: There is provided a ladder working limit based ladder stopping device for a vehicle equipped with a vertically and horizontally swingable and extensible ladder (or a fire engine truck), wherein a working limit of the ladder is preset on the basis of an extended length of the ladder corresponding to a particular vertical angle assumed by the ladder, so that when the combined situation of the vertical angle and extended length of the ladder reaches said preset condition, the operating mechanism for the ladder is automatically returned to its neutral position while actuating a warning device and turning on a marker lamp, the operating mechanism being then operated toward the safety side, whereupon the marker lamp is turned off to indicate that the ladder is now safe.

  • Patent number: 3958861
Abstract: A connector for joining together a pair of optical strands each of which includes a plurality of dielectric optical waveguides. The connector comprises a block through which extends a polygonal cross-section guideway into which the strands are pushed. In the completed joint, each waveguide of a strand is located in a respective corner of the polygonal cross-section of the guideway and is optically coupled with a waveguide of the other strand. Preferably, the guideway tapers outwardly towards the end faces of the block.
