  • Patent number: 4131710
Abstract: A recording sheet consisting mainly of fibrous material is capable of displaying a colored image when contacted under pressure with substantially colorless crystal violet lactone and similar dye precursors if at least 3% of the fibrous material is constituted by uniformly distributed asbestos fibers. Sheets having adequate strength for carbonless copying should not contain more than 30% asbestos fibers. Stronger colors are obtained if the sheet further contains a mixture of .gamma.-alumina and .gamma.-alumina precursors in an amount of 2% to 20% of the weight of the fibrous material, the mixture containing 1% to 30% water volatile at 1000.degree. C, and being converted substantially entirely to .gamma.-alumina when heated from 300.degree. to 1000.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4131128
Abstract: A control valve particularly suitable for service in mechanical refrigeration systems has a spherical valve body permanently engaging an annular seal and is operated by turning the valve body about an axis perpendicular to the direction of fluid flow through the central opening in the valve seat. A circumferentially flaring notch in the outer circumference of the valve member by-passes the valve seat in the open angular position of the valve member and communicates only with the inlet or the outlet of the valve in the closed valve position.

  • Patent number: 4127399
Abstract: The hot mixture of solid slag particles and water produced by contacting water with the molten slag released from a blast furnace is introduced into a tank equipped with an overflow and a filter at the overflow which permits a portion of the water and a minor fraction of slag fines to overflow. The major fraction of larger slag particles collects at the bottom of the tank and is pumped as a slurry containing the remainder of the heated water to a remote sedimentation zone where the slag particles and the water of the slurry are separated.

  • Patent number: 4126014
Abstract: Solar energy is collected by a plate-shaped panel of pliable plastic construction. The two major walls of the panel whose edges are sealed to each other consist of transparent and black plastic respectively and bound a cavity. The panel is expanded by air introduced by a blower and discharged through a restricted outlet. A radiation trap of pleated, transparent plastic sheeting is fastened in the cavity to the transparent wall. The hot air discharged from the panel when it collects solar radiation provides all the necessary energy for operating an absorption refrigeration system of the Electrolux type.

  • Patent number: 4125342
Abstract: The rotating cutter head of a reamer is formed with a recess, open in a radially outward direction and one circumferential direction relative to the axis of rotation, and a blade is retained in the recess between opposite, radially extending faces of the head and of a clamping shoe that may be adjusted inward of the recess. Two face portions of the blade are engaged by the respective faces of the head and shoe in area contact in planes which converge in a radially outward direction at a small acute angle to prevent movement of the blade from an initial, radially adjusted position under cutting stress.

  • Patent number: 4124266
Abstract: An electrical contact to be made between an electrically insulated first conductive strip and a socket member having an electrical contact element therein in which a crimpable, electrically conducting, second strip is caused to pierce the first strip at two separate points after which the passed-through ends of the second strip are folded over into a region of the first strip between the two pierced points to pierce again the insulation of the first strip to effect a second electrical connection with the first strip, and the resultant crimped joint is then inserted into the socket member until at least two electrical connecting points are established between the crimped second strip and the contact element in the socket member.

  • Patent number: 4120120
Abstract: A window is mounted on supporting structure of a motorcar body on a carrier for limited vertical movement. A motion-transmitting linkage connecting the carrier to a lifting drive includes a link which is movably secured to the carrier and the supporting structure. One of the securing devices for the link includes a forked guide channel having the shape of a tuning fork and bounding a keyhole-shaped guide slot. A guide pin has a shank slidably received in the slot and two enlarged heads outside the slot on respective ends of the shank. The width of the enlarged slot part is sufficient to pass one of the heads while the remainder of the slot is narrower than the corresponding dimensions of both heads for securing the pin against transverse movement out of the narrow slot part.

  • Patent number: 4119517
Abstract: The casing of apparatus for purifying water encloses a chamber and is formed with two orifices spaced from the chamber in opposite directions and communicating with the same for gravity flow of the water to be purified from one of the orifices through the chamber and out of the other orifice. Two electrodes spacedly mounted in the chamber for flow of the water therebetween are conductively connected to an electric battery in the casing by circuitry which causes current to flow between the electrodes through the water when the water and the battery satisfy proper conditions for the functioning of the apparatus, such conditions being indicated by a sensible signal. A compartment in the casing, sealed from the electrode chamber, encloses almost all the circuitry.
