  • Patent number: 5893306
Abstract: Ratchet wrench gears, for use in standard and pneumatic ratchet wrenches include adjustable jaws that may grip a fastener on at least four sides. The jaws travel on tracks or rails and open and close by means of threaded, floating-cams, which urge upon a protruding cam portion integral to the jaw body. The cams are driven axially by turning a threaded-stem-disc, which may comprise a hollow center, thus allowing for a "through-hole" feature. Various, optional compression-spring means are included to continually bias jaws toward an open position.

  • Patent number: 5889217
Abstract: An apparatus and process for obtaining samples of liquid and gas from subsurface soil is provided having filter zone adjacent an external expander ring. The expander ring creates a void within the soil substrate which encourages the accumulation of soil-borne fluids. The fluids migrate along a pressure gradient through a plurality of filters before entering a first chamber. A one-way valve regulates the flow of fluid into a second chamber in further communication with a collection tube through which samples are collected at the surface. A second one-way valve having a reverse flow provides additional communication between the chambers for the pressurized cleaning and back-flushing of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5886318
Abstract: The method for laser-assisted image formation in transparent specimens consists in establishing a laser beam having different angular divergence values in two mutually square planes, followed by focusing the lase beam at a present point of the specimen. In the course of image formation the specimen is displaced with respect to the point of radiation focusing in order to change an angle between the plane with a maximum laser beam angualr divergence and the surface of the image portion being formed so as to suit the required contrast of the image portion involved.

  • Patent number: 5869594
Abstract: The invention relates to novel hot-melt masses consisting of a statistically built-up copolyether ester based on terephthalic acid and a mixture of aliphatic diols. Terephthalic acid is used as the single acid component and its molar amount, relative to the total amount of acid, is 100 molar %. A combination of butane diol, diethylene glycol, polyethylene and optionally triethylene glycol is present as diol component. The molar amount of butane diol is less than 75 molar %, the amount of diethylene glycol is between 5 and 60 molar %, the amount of triethylene glycol between 0 and 40 molar % and at least 2 and at the most 10 molar % of a higher-molecular polyethylene glycol component with a molar mass of 600-4000 g/mole is used, relative to the total acid amount and total diol amount of 100 molar % in each instance. The melting point of the copolyether ester adhesive masses is between 90.degree. and 190.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 5858177
Abstract: An improved process and apparatus for vapor compression distillation is provided comprising a heat exchanger, a vapor compressor, and a liquid-vapor separator. The heat exchanger is preferably of the plate and frame type, with the plate faces being spaced apart to allow for the microscopic movement of the plates during the distillation process. This movement aids in the breaking off of hard scale which has accumulated on the plates. The process involves passing pressurized vapor and liquid into the heat exchanger, the pressurized vapor condensing to form a distillate, the liquid being heated to form a heated liquid and a non-pressurized vapor, the heated liquid and non-pressurized vapor being passed into a liquid-vapor separator where they are separated, the heated liquid being passed back into the heat exchanger and the non-pressurized vapor being passed into a vapor compressor for passage back into the heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 5852790
Abstract: A global positioning system recorder (GPSR) is disclosed in which operational parameters and recorded positional data are stored on a transferable memory element. Through this transferrable memory element, the user of the GPSR need have no knowledge of GPSR devices other than that the memory element needs to be inserted into the memory element slot and the GPSR must be activated. The use of the data element also allows for minimal downtime of the GPSR and the ability to reprogram the GPSR and download data therefrom, without having to physically attach it to another computer.

  • Patent number: 5848816
Abstract: A foldable animal pull apparatus which forms a rigid bar when two rigid bars of equal-length are extended. Attached at a center position of the two attached bars is a flexible connector and hook clasp attachment which serves as an animal pull for the removal of fallen animals from the woods. The animal pull apparatus forms a rigid two-piece bar when extended, with two handles and a cable and hook hanging from the center of the bar. When folded, the animal pull folds into compact shape which can be carried in the pocket or in a vest of a hunter. The benefit of the foldable animal pull is that the structural integrity of the extended two handled bar is improved by a support block and pivoting mechanism which provides a two-handled bar that is strong and durable.

  • Patent number: 5837207
Abstract: A lightweight portable germicidal air filter for home and personal use is disclosed. The air filter includes a cabinet which houses an electrostatic air filter, an ultraviolet lamp and a parabolic reflector or a convex lens for focusing the ultraviolet radiation emitted by the lamp on an upstream side of the air filter. The reflector or the lens are constantly oscillated to systematically sweep the upstream side of the filter with germicidal levels of radiation. A fan located adjacent the downstream side of the filter draws air through the filter and impels it out through areas for air outlet in the sidewalls of the cabinet. The advantage is a simple, lightweight germicidal air filter with few moving parts which is inexpensive to manufacture.

  • Patent number: 5837132
Abstract: By providing a fuel treating system with a strategically positioned sight-glass, it is possible to replace an fuel filter without either spilling large amounts of fuel all over or allowing for air bubbles, which can degrade the lubricating system's operation and cause siphoning. The sight-glass is positioned above the fuel inlet and outlet passages but below the filter. Thus, as soon as no fuel is seen in the sight-glass, a mechanic knows that the fuel filter has been substantially emptied of fuel yet the fuel inlet and outlet are still full.

  • Patent number: 5827582
Abstract: An object with a small orifice has a highly precise orifice diameter which is produced prior to the firing of the object. A ferrule having an orifice is placed inside of a bore in a casing, preferably a ceramic casing. The casing is then shrunk around the ferrule, preferably by sintering, with the cross-sectional areas of both the ferrule and its orifice remaining constant during the shrinking step. Consequently, the ferrule is securely fixed within the casing without any gaps between the two. In an alternative method, the ferrule is pre-shrunk and placed inside the bore, where it expands to fill the bore.

  • Patent number: 5820799
Abstract: A process for making a marble casting material using a solidified polymer blend having superior depth characteristics. The process involves the partial intermingling of two or more partially incompatible marble casting resins that are not intended to be normally used in combination. Due to the partial incompatibility, when the partially intermingled marble casting resins solidify, a marble effect is created.

  • Patent number: 5820363
Abstract: A cement clinker manufacturing installation a rotary kiln (10) having secondary firing and a grate cooler (16) with a high degree of heat recuperation. Instead of placing the grate cooler (16) in-line with the rotary kiln (10), the grate cooler (16) is positioned with its clinker transport direction (16a) transverse to the longitudinal axis of the rotary kiln (10). This angular positioning of the grate cooler (16) permits a discharge of hot air from the grate cooler as combustion air for the secondary firing of the calcination state by way of a discharge opening (20 or 21) on the lateral half of the kiln discharge housing (11) in which the beginning of the recuperation zone of the grate surface (15) of the grate cooler (16) is located. Thus somewhat cooler secondary air (18) flows into the rotary kiln (16) thereby avoiding excessively high temperatures at the rotary kiln discharge without reduction in overall thermal efficiency of the cement plant.
