  • Patent number: 4560983
Abstract: A general device for the input of information in a binary format through rotational motion is disclosed, having independent means for the simultaneous output of information in a form perceivable to the human tactile sense. In particular, a knob is coupled to a shaft, a tachometer and a particle brake. An associated control means receives information from the tachometer, controls the operation of the particle brake, and interfaces the corresponding operations with the apparatus which is desired to be controlled thereby.

  • Patent number: 4542663
Abstract: A self-contained reel hub assembly for a tape transport. The hub assembly comprises a housing including a base and a side wall which upstands from and extends around the periphery of the base. Within the housing defined by the side wall is the rotor and the stator winding of a motor. The rotor drives a sun wheel which engages a plurality of planet wheels each of which protrudes laterally from the side wall of the housing. A rotatable hub is mounted on a central post extending upwardly from a frame member forming a top cover for the housing. The hub member includes a peripheral part which extends around the side wall of the housing and carries a ring of inwardly directed gear teeth engaged by the planets. The planets are linked by a carrier which permits limited movement of the planets relative to the carrier.

  • Patent number: 4523302
Abstract: A highly efficient core memory drive system passes currents down a selected X and Y conductor and divides the currents for return through the unselected drive wires in the same X or Y dimension. The drive conductors are coupled to drive and sink switches at a drive end and the X conductors are connected together at an opposite common end and the Y conductors are connected together at an opposite common end. Resistors provide a current path between the drive end of each X conductor and an X resistor bus and between the drive end of each Y conductor and a Y resistor bus. A pair of switching transistors including a sink transistor and a drive transistor is connected to a drive end of each conductor to generate a drive current therein. The drive current divides equally among the unselected conductors at the common end to return through the unselected conductors and through the resistors to the resistor bus.

  • Patent number: 4520453
Abstract: An address transformation system receives an input address and outputs in response thereto a data store address indicating an operable address location in an associated data store even if the received input address identifies a defective location in the associated data store. The address transformation system includes an address shuffler coupled to receive the input address and output a shuffled address and an address translator coupled to receive the received input address and the shuffled address and output the data store address in response thereto. Economic considerations dictate that the address translator be constructed in such a way that it is unable to accommodate all possible combinations of defective address locations in the associated data store by translating an address indicating a defective location to an address indicating an operable location.

  • Patent number: 4497020
Abstract: In a highly flexible but economical mapping system and method, a different multidigit source code is assigned to each element in a first set of elements containing a subset of elements to be mapped. The digits of an assigned source code are grouped into at least two different groups. For each element to be mapped, a multidigit destination code is stored identifying each mapped element within a second set of elements to which it is to be mapped. Each digit of the destination code is stored in association with a state that is definable by a group of digits of the source code. Upon receipt of a source code, if it is detected as representing an element to be mapped, the stored destination code associated therewith is retrieved and substituted for the source code to effect the mapping.

  • Patent number: 4473892
Abstract: A magnetic core stack is comprised of a laminate of individual layers of substantial thinness mounted on a common stiff base member to provide a rugged, low mass structure of high resonant frequency. Each of the individual layers is comprised of a plurality of magnetic cores held in place by soft, energy absorbing material such as silicone rubber coated on the surfaces of opposite ground plane forming materials such as very thin sheets of aluminum. The laminate is formed from a single layer of material which supports a layer of magnetic cores and which is folded over upon itself one or more times to form the separate layers of the laminate. In one embodiment, a sheet of aluminum coated with silicone rubber on both sides is inserted as the single layer of material is initially folded over to form a two layer stack in which each layer of cores is held between opposite sheets of aluminum by silicone rubber coated on the aluminum.

  • Patent number: 4471391
Abstract: An improved tape timer is achieved by using pulses generated by a control track previously recorded on magnetic tape to determine the magnitude of phase shift between said control track pulses and pulses generated by a mechanical tachometer in contact with the magnetic tape. The pulses generated by said mechanical tachometer are counted and said counting sequence used to generate a pulse to up-date a tape timer. In response to a detected phase shift, the count sequence is dynamically adjusted by an amount determined by the magnitude of the phase shift in such a manner as to reduce said phase shift.

  • Patent number: 4453369
Abstract: An improved seed marker tab comprising an elongated flat tab element proportioned to have one end thereof inserted in the soil to a predetermined level with the other end thereof projecting above the soil. The tab is formed of stiff, relatively thin, self-supporting material and the end portion that is inserted in the soil has preferably an indentation or pod formed in one end thereof. Openings provided at the back of the pod for receiving seeds specifically determine number and location of seeds mounted on the tab. Filler material covers the seeds overlying the openings to complete the assembly. The improved seed marker tab results from a new process whereby vacuum means are used to hold the seed in place while the tab assembly is completed.

  • Patent number: 4451859
Abstract: A positionable magnetic head may be used in the record mode to produce video tape recordings in industry standard moving record-moving head format. In the record mode a constant control potential is applied to the positionable magnetic head so that is position is held fixed and the applied voltage is continuously monitored. Should the applied voltage vary from a permissible level a warning indication of a possible non-standard recording condition is produced or a feedback control system corrects the applied voltage. A separate fixed record head is no longer required since the reproduce head may now be used for the record head also.
