  • Patent number: 6279247
Abstract: The implement linkage of a work machine comprises at least one oil dilled pin joint. During operation of the linkage, pressure can build up in the pin joint, thus causing damage to the pin joint. It is desirable to vent this pressure without allowing oil to escape from the pin joint. It is also desirable to measure the level of the oil in the pin joint. A combination relief vent and dipstick apparatus which allows both these tasks to be accomplished with one apparatus is disclosed herein.

  • Patent number: 6272859
Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus for controlling a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) in closed loop and open loop modes, and a switching mechanism for determining whether open loop or closed loop control laws should be used. In the closed loop mode, a correction factor, obtained from a pressure correction map based on engine speed and atmospheric pressure, is subtracted from the desired boost pressure to prevent overspeed of the turbocharger at lower atmospheric pressures. The actual boost pressure is then compared to the desired boost pressure after correction to obtain a boost pressure error signal. The boost pressure error signal is used as an input to a proportional integral differential control law that responsively produces a desired VGT vane position. A minimum limit on the desired VGT vane position is based on engine speed and fuel quantity, whereas a maximum allowable vane position may be a predetermined constant or function.

  • Patent number: 6240343
Abstract: An apparatus and method for diagnosing an engine using computer based models in combination with a neural network which reduces the neural network training and updating required is disclosed. The method and apparatus determine modeled values for a plurality of engine parameters as a function of sensed values in a plurality of initial values; sense a plurality of actual values for the engine parameters; and determine a difference between the actual values and the modeled values for the respective engine parameters. The differences are inputted into a neural network which generates an output pattern as a function of the differences and a plurality of weight values. The weight values and the initial values are then updated as a function of a comparison between the output patterns and a desired pattern, and the engine is responsively diagnosed as a function of the output pattern.
