  • Patent number: 8150265
Abstract: Embodiments of a method and apparatus are described to transmit a data signal from a power supply unit, over existing direct current (DC) power transmission lines, to a residential gateway which includes an infrared (IR) receiver designed to receive optical signals. In one embodiment, the IR receiver is configured to receive a carrier current communication signal from the power supply unit over a pair of copper wires coupled to the IR receiver. The carrier current communication signals may be encoded by a transmission encoding logic circuit using pulse position modulation techniques. The received carrier current communication signals may be demodulated and decoded to reproduce an input data stream.

  • Patent number: 8146421
Abstract: A method and apparatus for sensing levels of insoluble fluids within a storage vessel utilizing an array of main capacitive sensors having differing geometries. The array of main capacitive sensors gives the ability to measure the levels of insoluble liquids in a vessel. Each of the main capacitive sensors include at least one pair of conductive plates capable of submersion in the at least two insoluble fluids, and the geometries of the pair of conductive plates differ and are distinct, such as in distance or in width, in each of the main capacitive sensors. In addition, the apparatus and method may include at least one reference sensor placed intermittently along the height of the vessel to provide input as to the permittivities of the insoluble fluids.

  • Patent number: 8149552
Abstract: A downhole measurement tool circuit and method to balance fault current in a protective inductor, which keeps an alternating current balanced in a protective choke during a phase-to-ground fault condition in a power cable or a downhole motor of an electrical submersible pump. The downhole measurement tool circuit and method cause a conducting of current during the negative polarity voltage portions of a phase-to-ground fault condition, but do not cause a conduction of negative polarity voltage during use of a negative polarity megger.

  • Patent number: 8145247
Abstract: Clock synchronization for a wireless communication system is described. The communication system utilizes a server with a radio coupled to receive a radio frequency (RF) signal and a clock interface to receive a reference clock signal. The server includes a network interface configured to receive, from a base station, a time that the RF signal was received at the base station. The server further includes a processing device configured to determine when the RF signal was transmitted and a location of the base station, and configured to calculate clock offset value representative of a time to delay a local clock signal at the base station to synchronize the local clock signal at the base station with the reference clock signal.

  • Patent number: 8145044
Abstract: An air ammonia heater and vaporization chamber system utilizing a contiguous vaporization chamber having an inlet for receiving dilution air, which is passed across at least one heating element integrated into the vaporization chamber to heat and pre-heat the vaporization chamber. Aqueous or anhydrous ammonia is injected from at least one ammonia injector, which is integrated into the vaporization chamber, into the heated dilution air. The heated ammonia/air mixture may then be passed through a bed of packing prior to being released from the vaporization chamber. The bed of packing maintains the heated, homogenous ammonia/air mixture at a minimum temperature of 350° F. to ensure the air/ammonia mixture does not condense. The air ammonia heater and vaporization chamber system may be used in the vaporization and bleeding of ammonia with air for NOx reduction in the flue gas from heat recovery steam generation systems, packaged boilers, simple cycle catalyst systems or fired heaters.

  • Patent number: 8144060
Abstract: An antenna unit includes one or more antenna circuits coupled to one or more antenna structures. Each antenna structure includes a first feed point and a second feed point to receive signals from a transceiver unit or transmit signals to the transceiver unit. The first feed point of each antenna structure is configured to maximize coupling into an associated antenna structure at a first frequency band and the second feed point of each antenna structure is configured to maximize coupling into an associated antenna structure at a second frequency band. Each antenna structure has a slot that separates each antenna structure into a first patch associated with the first feed point and the first frequency band and a second patch associated with the second feed point and the second frequency band. Each antenna circuit is operatively coupled to the transceiver unit without an intervening multiplexing functionality or circuitry.

  • Patent number: 8118753
Abstract: Disclosed are a barb-wired single crystalline silicon micro needle and a biopsy method and a medicine injecting method using the same. The micro needle comprises a main body part, at least one extension part formed on a side surface of the main body part, and a protrusion part protruded from both side surfaces of the extension part. A medicine storage is formed on a surface of the main body part. A fluid passage is formed in the extension part and the main body part. It is easy to pick the tissue sample with the protrusion part just by inserting and extracting the extension part of the micro needle into and from the tissue for a biopsy. Therefore, the biopsy procedures can be simplified. In addition, the medicine in the storage can be injected into the tissue via the fluid passage.
