Abstract: A process is disclosed for removing hydrogen sulfide from fluid, particularly geothermal steam. Carbonic acid is sprayed into a condenser to inhibit dissolution of hydrogen sulfide into the condensate and maintain the hydrogen sulfide in gaseous form.
Abstract: A method for detecting the presence of Mycobacteria in a fluid or tissue which comprises mixing the fluid or tissue containing a secretory product of Mycobacteria with a complex of a tracer-containing molecule and a binding macromolecule having reversible binding affinity for the tracer-containing molecule and detecting the tracer-containing molecule, wherein the tracer-containing molecule is a charcoal-adsorbable protein from Mycobacterium tuberculosis which has a molecular weight of 20,000-30,000 and which is immunochemically stable from 4.degree.0 C. to 250.degree. C. and has a pH range from 3.0 to 9.0. The method is particularly applicable to the detection of infectious tuberculosis in humans and determining the antibiotic sensitivity of infecting Mycobacteria.
Abstract: A heat dissipator for use with a dual in line integrated circuit package. The subject dissipator is unitary in construction and formed of a resilient material to facilitate rapid mounting and subsequent removal from an IC package. The dissipator includes a pair of opposed top and bottom contact plates interconnected by an intermediate segment. A radiator plate is provided extending upwardly from the remaining free end of the top contact plate. The dissipator may be slidably mounted on an IC package, with the bottom contact plate being in contact with the bottom wall of the package and with the top contact plate being in coplanar and contiguous relationship with the top wall of the package. By this arrangement, heat generated by the IC package during use is conducted by the top and bottom contact plates to the radiator plate for dissipating the heat and reducing the operating temperature of the package.
Abstract: A process for reclaiming spent oil comprises the steps of removing water and light hydrocarbons, thermally treating the stripped oil, extracting it with a supercritical gas to insolubilize impurities and additives, separating the gas-rich fractions from the oil-depleted gas fractions, expanding the insoluble fractions, separating the additives and impurities, separating the various hydrocarbon fractions according to the respective viscosities, compressing and recycling the gas phases and withdrawing the residue and the oil fractions according to the respective viscosities.
Abstract: Polyphenylene ether resins and compositions of such resins in admixture with certain specific phosphite thermal oxidative stabilizers are described. These blends can be used with or without impact modifiers. As an additional benefit, the resins and compositions possess good melt flow properties which facilitates processing during molding.
Abstract: Thermoplastic molding compositions are disclosed which comprise an intimate admixture of (a) a copolymer of a vinyl aromatic compound and an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated cyclic anhydride, including rubber-modified copolymers thereof, and (b) impact modifiers comprising graft copolymers, copolyesters, and rubber-modified homopolymers. Optionally, the compositions can also include a polyphenylene ether resin and further, optionally, a normally liquid polybutadiene oligomer. Mixing (a) with a polyphenylene ether leads to a compatible composition, markedly improved in heat deflection temperature.

Abstract: Compositions or composites comprising a polyphenylene ether-styrene resin blend or composition are disclosed which have electromagnetic shielding properties so that when the compositions are used for electronic equipment components or housings they provide shielding against electromagnetic interference referred to as EMI. The composites eliminate the secondary treatments which have been used heretofore to provide these shielding properties, such as the application of electrically conductive silver, nickel, copper and graphite coatings, or the use of metal screens. The novel compositions of a polyphenylene ether-styrene blend contain as a conductive material, which attenuates the EMI, aluminum flakes, or a combination of aluminum flakes with carbon fibers or with a highly conductive carbon black or a combination of carbon fibers with conductive carbon black, or carbon fibers per se.

Abstract: The invention relates to oil-modified resole varnishes particularly useful for impregnating paper laminates. Specifically, the invention relates to such compositions in which linseed oil or mixtures thereof with tung oil or oiticica oil is used as the modifier for the resole. Laminates prepared using the varnish are characterized by manufacturing economy, enhanced punchability and other salutary properties.
Abstract: A connector is disclosed for electrically interconnecting the conductive pins of an electrical component to a printed circuit board. The connector includes a plurality of conductive contacts mounted within a non-conductive housing. Each contact includes first and second upwardly extending arms spaced apart a distance sufficient to permit a conductive pin of the electical component to be freely mounted therebetween. The first arm of the contact is generally V-shaped in configuration and defines an intermediate projecting section, extending away from the second arm. A cammed closure is provided for exerting a force on the projecting section of the first arm in a direction towards the second arm. By this arrangement, after a conductive pin is mounted between the arms of the contact, the actuation of the cam causes the first arm of the contact to be moved into electrical contact with the conductive pin of the component.
Abstract: A process is disclosed for removing hydrogen sulfide from fluid, particularly geothermal steam. Condensate rich in hydrogen sulfide is passed countercurrently with vapor rich in carbon dioxide to strip the condensate of hydrogen sulfide.
Abstract: A process is provided for increasing the rate of crystallization of polyester compounds, such as poly (alkylene arylates), more particularly poly(alkylene terephthalates), or blends or mixtures thereof, as for example, poly(ethylene terephthalate), poly(butylene terephthalate) or mixtures of blends thereof, by incorporating therein a small amount of a polyethylene ionomer, or an alkali metal salt of benzoic acid, such as sodium benzoate. The faster crystallization rates improve injection molding performance of the polyesters and blends thereof, such as reduced post-mold shrinkage, faster mold cycle times and lower mold temperature. Also, the resultant products show increases in physical properties such as flex modulus, flex strength, deflection temperature under load (DTUL), tensile strength and solvent resistance.
