    Abstract: The invention provides anti-thiol reagents which inhibit enzyme activity of cell-associated protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) by oxidizing or blocking PDI active site vicinal thiol groups which normally participate in disulfide bond rearrangement of PDI substrates. Inhibition of this PDI function is particularly useful in blocking PDI-mediated entry of HIV or other virions into a host cell, as well as inhibiting lymphocyte traffic through the lymph nodes. The invention further provides an assay for the identification of such PDI inhibitors based on the discovery that inhibitors of the invention also induce shedding of the leucocyte L-selectin adhesion molecule. The invention additionally provides for suppression of inflammation and of lymph node entry by calmodulin antagonists that, like PDI inhibition, cause leukocyte L-selectin shedding.

    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for producing a high gloss coating on a printed surface. In the present method, an aqueous coating composition is deposited onto a surface to be printed using a blanket roller coating face which is a low energy, non-stick, smooth surface profile. In the present method, simultaneous with the deposition of aqueous coating onto a substrate, or shortly thereafter, pressure either alone or in combination with heat may be applied to the coating in order to create a substantially tack-free surface conforming to the surface of the coating face. By using a highly polished coating face, high gloss coatings may be readily obtained using this methodology in a number of traditional printing techniques including wet trap inline sheet-fed printing, heat-set offset printing, dry trap inline flexographic printing, offset web-fed printing and gravure printing.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a stabilization circuit of a magnet switch for a starter in which an electronic switch of a starter which starts an engine installed in a vehicle is stable-operated. In the present invention, a current is prevented to flow to a pull-in coil and holding coil when disconnecting a key switch using a diode which is capable of flowing a current in a normal direction and preventing a flow of a current in a reverse direction, so that it is possible to accurately return a plunger to its original state. Therefore, the operation of a motor unit is stopped by opening two contact points. In the case that a key switch is turned on by connecting a diode between the contact points and the pull-in coil, the pull-in coil and holding coil are magnetized, and in the case that the key switch is turned off, the current is not flown to the pull-in coil and holding coil, so that the pull-in coil and holding coil are not magnetized.

    Abstract: An ultrasonically excitable tool or probe is provided with a central bore, and a coupling for attachment to an ultrasonic transducer also provided with a central bore. Fluid may be injected along the communicating bores for filling a bowl or concavity on a distal end of the tool. Upon energization of the transducer, fluid in the concavity serves as a conventional ultrasonic cleaning bath for depending parts which the tool may be raised to accommodate in the concavity. This cleaning may be achieved in a confined space where the presence of the transducer is impossible or impermissible, which is further facilitated by the existence of an extended handle or shaft portion, containing the bore, on the ultrasonic tool. A particular shape of the concavity is found to have unexpected utility in creating and focussing an atomized spray.
