Abstract: A means and method for attaining desired temperature conditions at not only the major extent of the heat transfer surface of a rotary heat transfer roll but also at the edges of the roll. Temperature conditioning fluid is introduced and distributed in part directly into a first end of an annular passage between an inner and an outer roll shell and in part into the annular passage adjacently downstream relative to the first end. Spent conditioning fluid is evacuated from the second end of the passage in part directly from the second end of the annular passage and in part through the inner shell adjacently upstream relative to the second end. While the roll is continuously rotating, the relative temperature conditioning effect of the conditioning fluid is adapted to be selectively controlled in respect to either or both ends of the temperature fluid circulating annular passage in the roll.

Abstract: A combination airless paint pump and air compressor wherein a prime mover drives an eccentric cam wheel within an oil reservoir housing. A piston, movably received within a housing bore is engageable with a periphery of the cam wheel to load an hydraulic column open to the piston cylinder for oscillating a paint spray pump diaphragm. A second piston member, received in a bore open to the housing, is engageable with the periphery of the cam wheel spaced circumferentially of the paint pump piston. The second piston is operatively connected with an air pump diaphragm. Selector means are provided to disengage, selectively, either one of the pistons from contact with the cam wheel whereby the unit can operate in a paint only mode, an air only mode or a combination air and paint mode.
Abstract: A pincushion distortion correction saturable reactor is a saturable transformer comprising a core having four legs, controlled and control coils being coupled to the core legs in a perpendicular relation to each other. The core gap for the controlled coil is provided in an unbalanced form, and a parabolic current at the vertical scanning frequency (or at horizontal scanning frequency) containing a superimposed DC component is supplied through the control coil to modulate the inductance of the controlled coil. The inductance of the controlled coil is thus reduced in a region where the magnetomotive force produced by the control coil is greater than that produced by the control coil to preclude deflectional distortion in the neighborhood of the center of the reproduction on the screen and improve the horizontal linearity.
Abstract: Transistor motor control incorporates a transistor bridge circuit for controlling application of power to a DC motor for forward and reverse rotation. The speed of the motor is controlled by pulse modulation, under the control of a digital counter. The counter produces a voltage stair-step waveform which is compared with a feed-back voltage. The direction of motor energization is controlled by the sign of the feed-back signal, and the transistors of the bridge are inhibited for at least one cycle prior to reversing direction.
Abstract: A device for simultaneously producing a plurality of substrate disks each having a plurality of different layers by a liquid phase epitaxy as each substrate disk is moved sequentially through different melts contained in the liquid phase characterized by a first unit having tongues slidably received therein and a plurality of chambers spaced along the direction of sliding of said tongues, a second unit having a crucible for each of said chambers being disposed for relatively movement on the first unit from a position with the crucible out of communication with the chamber to a position in communication for transferring the melt from the crucible to the chamber and each of the said tongues having aligned recesses for receiving the substrate disk so that a row of substrate disks can be passed from one chamber to the next following chamber so that the disks in each row receive epitaxial layers sequentially.
Abstract: Liquid droplets in a freely falling stream are applied as a liquid reaction agent in the generation of a spatially-limited convective reaction system in such a way as that at least a portion of the droplets penetrate into the surface of the molten bath to interact with the molten metal.
Abstract: A display device for displaying bright images on a dark background, which device includes a liquid crystal cell having a liquid crystal layer with switchable zones between at least two optical states, a light trap in the form of a body exhibiting fluorescent particles and having light emergent windows disposed behind each of the switchable zones in the direction of observation, characterized with the liquid crystal layer containing at least one pleochroic dye. The dye in the liquid crystal layer acting by itself or in conjunction with a polarizer can block passage of the fluorescent light during one optical state of the layer and enable passage of the light during the other state.

Abstract: A current comparator circuit is composed of an input signal current source, plural pairs each consisting of a diode and reference current source, and plural switching elements. The pairs each consisting of a diode and reference current source are connected in series or in parallel to the input signal current source. Each switching element is a transistor, which is connected to the connection point between the paired diode and reference current source, and a compared output can be obtained from the collector of the transistor.
Abstract: A device which enables a rapid sterilization of one or more medical and dental objects characterized by a first chamber for containing the objects to be sterilized, a second chamber connected to the first chamber and having a smaller volume than the first chamber for receiving a liquid reaction fluid and positioning the fluid in an area of high energy density from a source of radiation such as infrared radiation or microwave radiation so that the object is vaporized and the vaporized gases of the reaction agent flow into the first chamber to sterilize the objects.
Abstract: A test facility comprises a transmitter and a receiver for an automatic test system for function testing of integrated circuits of different technologies, whereby the input and output of the test specimen are connected to the same test pin. In order to test circuits of different technological format, it is necessary to pre-program the output of the test facility to the respective characteristic level of the different circuit families. To this end, a transmitter contains a constant current source keyed by the inverted input signal with a TTL level related to zero volts, the constant current source being connected at its output to the input of an output stage provided with a dynamically variable constant current load.
Abstract: The building material of the invention, which is in a disintegrated fluffy form and suitable for shaping into a board for walls and ceilings or as a blow-on or blow-in insulating material having excellent performance as heat and sound insulation, comprises essentially a disintegrated organic fibrous material, e.g. disintegrated scrapped paper and gel-like aluminum hydroxide uniformly blended with the fibrous material together with a flame retardant agent which is preferably an inorganic phosphate such as sodium phosphate and disodium hydrogen phosphate and, optionally, with a waterproofing agent. The building material is prepared by first mixing the organic fibrous material with an aqueous solution of the phosphate and then with an aluminum hydroxide sludge obtained as a noxious industrial waste in aluminum-processing industries employing surface anodization followed by drying and disintegration.
