  • Patent number: 5170291
Abstract: A coating for applying to a front side of a substrate, which side is facing an observer, comprises a four-layer system which is optically effective and has a high anti-reflective effect. A first layer of this system is applied onto the front side of the substrate and is, preferably, a highly-refracting TiO.sub.2 layer, the second layer is applied to the first layer and is a low-refracting Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 layer, a third layer of the system is applied to the second layer and is, preferably, a high-refracting TiO.sub.2, while the fourth layer applied to the third layer is, preferably, a low-refracting SiO.sub.2 layer. The layers can be formed by either a pyrolytic method, a plasma-supported chemical vapor deposition method, a sputtering method or a chemical vapor deposition method. Preferably, they are formed by a DC-reactive sputtering method with a magnetron.

  • Patent number: 5170375
Abstract: A static memory is constructed in a plurality of hierarchy levels. Beneficial realization possibilities are set forth with respect to the surface utilization for the drive and read-out circuits in the second hierarchy level which are especially critical. Memory cells that supply a strong cell signal are advantageously utilized so that a low expense is needed in the read circuit. By displacing periphery circuits into higher hierarchy levels, a short access time and a reduced surface requirement arise.

  • Patent number: 5169703
Abstract: A magnetic recording medium having minute irregularities on the surface of a magnetic layer is disclosed. The value of the ratio A.sub.V /A.sub.P, where A.sub.V and A.sub.P are cross-sectional areas of valleys and projections as measured in a plane lower by 50 nm and in a plane higher than 50 nm than an intermediate plane of the magnetic layer, respectively, with the measurement being made using a three-dimensional roughness meter, is given by A.sub.V /A.sub.P .gtoreq.0.90, wherein the intermediate plane is a plane for which the cross-sectional area of the projections is approximately equal to that of the valleys. The minute irregularities on the surface of the magnetic layer are produced by providing a non-magnetic substrate presenting different surface roughnesses on its front surface and back surface, and by transferring surface irregularities constituting the surface roughness of the back surface of the non-magnetic substrate to the front surface of the substrate.

  • Patent number: 5169790
Abstract: A thyristor having low-reflection light-triggering structure. In a light-triggerable thyristor, pyramidal depressions are formed in a simple manner by a preferred etching method, being formed in the region of the photon entry face in order to produce a low-reflection light-triggering structure. Incident light is absorbed in the pyramidal depressions largely independent of the wavelength of the incident light and nearly completely. The low-reflection light-triggering structure thereby produced can be formed with relatively little outlay. This is especially true when a defined overhead ignition voltage is simultaneously set by the pyramidal depressions.

  • Patent number: 5168357
Abstract: A 16.times.16 picture block of an HDTV television picture is transformed with a discrete cosine transformation as a 16.times.16 frame block or is separately transformed in respectively two 16.times.8 field blocks according to a decision method. Picture value differences between pairs of field picture elements of two picture lines of the same field are absolutely summed up to form a field sum. Likewise, picture value differences between pairs of frame picture elements of two picture lines of the frame are absolutely summed up to form a frame sum. The frame sum multiplied by a frame weighting factor is subtracted from the field sum to form what may be a positive decision result. Given a positive decision result, the frame is transformed; otherwise, the two fields are separately transformed.

  • Patent number: 5168494
Abstract: Method for transmitting a digital broadband signal in a tributary unit concatenation via a network of a synchronous digital multiplex hierarchy. A pointer for positional identification in a frame is allocated to the first tributary unit in a tributary unit concatenation; instead of a pointer, the further tributary units receive a concatenation indicator. Every cross-connect equipment along a transmission link recognizes the tributary unit concatenation and forwards the tributary units thereof in the correct sequence. When a clock matching is required in the case of a first tributary unit, a pointer skip is initiated at all further tributary units. This requires hardware and software. This is eliminated when all tributary units (TU-12.sub.1 through TU-12.sub.5) containing the broadband signal (DSa) have a pointer (PTR1 through PTR5) having the value of the positional identification of the first tributary unit (TU-12.sub.1) allocated to them. The individual tributary units (TU-12.sub.1 through TU-12.sub.

  • Patent number: 5168482
Abstract: A high density magnetooptical recording and playback method is disclosed. The magnetooptical recording medium comprises a recording hold magnetic layer and a playback magnetic layer magnetically coupled with each other. Prior to the playback operation, the playback magnetic layer is initialized by an external magnetic field.
