  • Patent number: 8202360
Abstract: The present invention aims to provide an adsorbent with superior adsorption performance of 20 wt % or more in a humidity range of 5 to 60 wt % by using a low-cost reagent as the raw material. Aluminum sulfate is used as the Al source, the respective aqueous solutions are mixed to achieve a Si/Al molar ratio of 0.70 to 1.0 in the mixed solution, the pH is adjusted to be 6 to 9 with acid or alkali, the solution is heated at 90 to 110° C. and subsequently subject to desalination treatment in order to synthesize an amorphous aluminum silicate. The obtained amorphous aluminum silicate yields a superior water vapor adsorption performance of 20 wt % or more in a relative humidity of 60%, and can be used as an adsorbent for desiccant air conditioning and as other adsorbents.

  • Patent number: 8193771
Abstract: A battery tester determines a remaining level of charge of a battery mounted within a separate electronic device having an audio jack. The battery tester includes a plug and a circuit having a high impedance input amplifier. At least one electrical contact of the plug is electrically coupled to an input of the high impedance input amplifier. The plug is removably insertable within the audio jack such that the battery of the separate electronic device is electrically connected to the input of the high impedance input amplifier. When electrically coupled to the battery, an output of the high impedance input amplifier provides a signal proportional to the remaining level of charge of the battery, whereby the remaining level of charge of the battery is obtainable by the battery tester without having to remove the battery from the electronic device.

  • Patent number: 8158092
Abstract: Provided is iron silicide powder in which the content of oxygen as the gas component is 1500 ppm or less, and a method of manufacturing such iron silicide powder including the steps of reducing iron oxide with hydrogen to prepare iron powder, heating the iron powder and Si powder in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to prepare synthetic powder containing FeSi as its primary component, and adding and mixing Si powder once again thereto and heating this in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to prepare iron silicide powder containing FeSi2 as its primary component. The content of oxygen as the gas component contained in the iron silicide powder will decrease, and the iron silicide powder can be easily pulverized as a result thereof. Thus, the mixture of impurities when the pulverization is unsatisfactory will be reduced, the specific surface area of the iron silicide powder will increase, and the density can be enhanced upon sintering the iron silicide powder.

  • Patent number: 8147823
Abstract: A method for treating an ocular disorder characterized by the defect or absence of a normal gene in the ocular cells of a human or animal subject involves administering to the subject by subretinal injection an effective amount of a recombinant adeno-associated virus carrying a nucleic acid sequence encoding the normal gene under the control of a promoter sequence which expresses the product of the gene in the ocular cells. The ocular cells are preferably retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells, and the gene is preferably an RPE-specific gene, e.g., RPE65. The promoter is one that can express the gene product in the RPE cells. Compositions for subretinal administration are useful in this method.
