  • Patent number: 4595826
Abstract: An improved heat treatment furnace and method of constructing the same is enclosed wherein the duct work of the furnace includes directional vanes and adjustable plenum vents and chamber dampers to yield a substantially uniform air flow pattern within the heat treatment chamber. The plenum vents and chamber dampers are provided with remotely operable actuating means which permit rapid adjustment of the vents and dampers from the exterior of the furnace during the heat treatment process and/or furnace certification. The furnace additionally incorporates a novel ribbon heating element/fiber insulation assembly and construction method which substantially reduces furnace operating costs and insures that only convectional heat transfer (as opposed to radiant) occurs within the heat treatment chamber of the furnace.

  • Patent number: 4588093
Abstract: A merchandise display device adapted to maintain merchandise in an organized orientation upon a display surface is diclosed. The device comprises an insert sized to be positioned within a display case or drawer and includes a base plate formed to contact the merchandise, an anchor member adapted to attach the insert to the display case and an accordian-like extensible member positioned between the base plate and anchor member. The extensible member is provided with plural spring clips at each of its apexes to continuously bias the base plate away from the anchor member. As merchandise is removed from the display case, the device constantly urges the merchandise in a forward direction and thereby maintains the stack of merchandise in an organized orientation.

  • Patent number: 4580385
Abstract: An improved wall panel clip includes a retainer plate and a hook member extending from the retainer plate for insertion into a slot to retain a wall panel against an upright. The hook forms a notch having a narrow opening and a wider inner width. The surface of the hook adjacent the narrow opening engages a surface of the upright when the hook is positioned in the slots so that a portion of the upright penetrates into the slot. Engagement of the hook with the surface of the upright resists inadvertent movement of the clip relative to the upright to retain the panel in position on the upright. The clip preferably includes a plurality of such hooks projecting from a spacer plate that extends from the retainer plate.

  • Patent number: 4579385
Abstract: This invention provides a sunshade and protective cushion device for use with a conventional automobile child seat for an infant or small child. The device includes a pair of peripherally joined flexible sheets and a valve for permitting pressurization of the airspace between the sheets. The device may be attached between the seatback and front retainer bar of the child seat to substantially cover the occupant. A pair of flaps extend from the sheets to shield the occupant from laterally incident sunlight.

  • Patent number: 4575155
Abstract: A pressurized fluid is injected into a subterranean cavity in a mineral deposit to support the overburden during hydraulic mining operations. A dynamic seal between the drill string and a surrounding casing retains fluid pressure within the cavity as the drill string rotates during mining operations. A blowout protector retains fluid pressure within the cavity while the drill string is raised or lowered within the cavity when it is necessary to add or remove drill string sections.

  • Patent number: 4567921
Abstract: This invention relates to apparatus and methods for filling a conventional Bourdon tube with an outgassed fluid to permit use of the Bourdon tube to measure fluid pressures at high temperatures. The filling device includes a hot reservoir containing hydraulic fluid that has been heated to facilitate outgassing and a cold reservoir in fluid communication with the hot reservoir to prevent exposure of the fluid in the hot reservoir to oxygen. A vacuum line connected to the cold reservoir permits evacuation of the filling apparatus, the Bourdon tube and a typical bellows that may be attached to the Bourdon tube. The bellows is mechanically compressed and provided with a center post to reduce the volume of the bellows by about fifty percent. After the Bourdon tube, the bellows and the hydraulic fluid in the hot reservoir have been heated and outgassed, the vacuum is removed from the cold reservoir to permit hydraulic fluid to flow from the hot reservoir into the bellows and Bourdon tube.

  • Patent number: 4566313
Abstract: A leak detection device and method for detecting leaks in a fluid vessel such as a swimming pool from a position above the surface of the fluid is disclosed. The device includes a tubular member which may be detachably mounted to a telescoping pole and which houses a flexible dye reservoir. An actuation lever mounted on the tubular member for selective contact with a surface of the flexible reservoir and having a cord attached which runs the length of the pole, permits dye to be expelled from the reservoir by manipulation of the string by an operator positioned at the other end of the pole. Leaks may be detected by attaching the device to the end of the pole and positioning the device beneath the surface of the fluid adjacent a suspected leak. By pulling the cord to cause dye to be expelled, visual confirmation of a leak is determined by seepage of the dye into the leak.

  • Patent number: 4564974
Abstract: A door or cabinet hinge which locks in one position--normally the closed position. It may be locked and unlocked from outside. Operated by a conventional keyed cylinder lock passing through the door and actuating an arm, the device has a lock pin parallel to and spaced outside the hinge pin. The lock pin moves along its axis to slide integral protruding keys into corresponding slots in the knuckles surrounding the hinge pin. In the unlocked position the keys lie entirely in one knuckle, in the locked position they span between knuckles and prevent rotation thereof. A yoke connects the actuating arm to the lock pin.

  • Patent number: 4558862
Abstract: An improved golf pin flag device for providing accurate wind velocity information is disclosed, including a golf pin and a flexible open-ended frusto-conical shaped flag member which, when encountering incident wind, enlarges and becomes extended in proportion to wind speed and self-orients parallel to the wind flow to indicate wind direction. A pair of elongated resilient members define the periphery of the larger opening of the frusto-conical member. The opposite ends of the elongated members are pivotably mounted to rotatable bearings on the golf pin. As the elongated members pivot away from each other, they enlarge the opening and the lowermost bearing slides upward on the golf pin.
