  • Patent number: 4399292
Abstract: A process for separating and recovering organic compounds from an oxygen-taining recycle gas deriving from an ozonization process is disclosed. The process comprises the separation of products in form of fumes from the gas, the countercurrent scrubbing of the gas with a polyoxyalkyleneglycol containing 2-4 carbon atoms, pre-treated with a monocarboxylic acid anhydride and/or the countercurrent scrubbing of the gas with the polyoxyalkyleneglycol or with an excess of a base. The organic compounds are recovered either by stripping (at atmospheric pressure or under vacuum) or by hydrolysis followed by distillation (at atmospheric pressure or under vacuum).

  • Patent number: 4396253
Abstract: An electro-chromic display device comprises an electro-chromic material and an electrolyte between a display electrode formed by a combination of a plurality of segments, and counter electrode disposed opposite thereto, and undergoes a reversible reaction for developing or erasing a color upon application of voltage or reverse polarity voltage. The counter electrode comprises a molded product obtained by molding under pressure a mixture of the powders of a solid oxidation-reduction type active material and an electrically conductive material.

  • Patent number: 4394378
Abstract: The growth of bacteria, fungi or the like is inhibited by contacting such microorganisms with an effective amount of certain silyl quaternary ammonium salts, e.g., 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyldidecylmethyl ammonium chloride.

  • Patent number: 4392361
Abstract: A self-contained apparatus (20, 100, 200) for making an ice cream type mixture includes a mixing chamber or container (22, 103, 222) which is controllably cooled by a refrigeration unit (50, 50, 50") including a coil (52, 52', 52") surrounding the container (22, 103, 222). A blade (32-36, 105, 208-209) such as a flexible blade, is rotatably driven in the container (22, 103, 222) by a motor (28, 28', 28") and may preferably include an angled multifunction blade (32) and a scraper blade (36). The multifunction blade (32) primarily performs three functions of forcing the mixture contents downwardly toward the base wall (33) and forcing these contents outwardly from the center (26) toward the side wall (35) and kneading the ingredients while the scraper blade (36) forces those contents upwardly from the base wall (33) and from the side wall (35) toward the center (26) thereby cyclically intermixing the warmer and colder contents and providing a substantially uniform temperature gradient for the mixture.

  • Patent number: 4388489
Abstract: A video conversational data communication network (30) in which subscribers (34, 35) may conduct conversational video textual data communications with one or more keystations (70, 602, 98) the network (30). Each keystation (70, 602, 98) is associated with a keystation terminal controller interface (68, 96, 600) which is in turn connected to a message switching node (32) for routing calls throughout the network (30). The keystation controller interface (68, 96, 600) locally stores (304, 306) video conversational textual data for its associated keystations (70, 82, 84, 98, 100, 602) and enables two different designated keystations to conduct two different video conversations with a common keystation in a split screen display (76). The split screen display (76) may also be used to display retrievable data from a data base (50, 52) for simultaneous display (76) along with a video conversation.

  • Patent number: 4384586
Abstract: For continuous or intermittent monitoring or recording of the in vivo plasma pH of a patient, the patient's acid base status is established with performance of at least one in vitro determination on a blood sample from the patient, and for a period of some hours thereafter, the patient's in vivo plasma pH is determined on the basis of this initial acid base status and the results of non-invasive measurements of the patient's actual blood Pco.sub.2.

  • Patent number: 4384842
Abstract: An extrusion plate (1) for food paste, such as pasta, has a plurality of extrusion channels (3) each having an inlet section (4) and an outlet section (5) which are each of frustoconical shape having their bases meet to form a constriction (6). The discharge outlet is a larger diameter than the inlet and the cross-section of the channel (3) in the discharge section (5) increases in the direction of discharge of the pasta product so as to vary as a function of the stress associated with the pasta during its passage through the discharge section.
