  • Patent number: 5050530
Abstract: A translucent tank carries along its bottom portion, a pair of transversely extending spaced parallel wick pads which are removeably received in and protrude from recesses in the bottom portion. A handle is pivotally connected along one side of the tank and has control button, both of which control a spring loaded dispensing bar on which are carried resilient valve members which close and open discharge tubes of the tank. A drain tube can empty the contents of the tank to discharge liquid in front of the wick pads. A kick bar releases latches which hold the handle in a transport position with respect to tank. Wheels at the front of the tank permit the handle to tilt the tank for transporting from place to place.

  • Patent number: 5050182
Abstract: A process for increasing the efficiency of a chemical process yielding stimulated emission of visible radiation via fast near resonant intermolecular energy transfer comprising the steps of reacting a first metal vapor with a reactant to form a metastable state of a metal oxide or metal halide and transferring the energy from the metastable state to receptor metal atoms by means of near resonant energy transfer to form electronically excited receptor metal atoms in an inverted configuration by using highly volatile precursor compounds to provide the receptor metal atoms, by introducing a quenchant gas during the energy transfer step, or by introducing CO.sub.2 laser photons during the energy transfer step.

  • Patent number: 5041054
Abstract: An elongated washer for cleaning the inside of slaughtered, eviscerated poultry, comprising a spraying element to which cleaning liquid can be fed, and radially projecting parts, running mainly in the lengthwise direction, being disposed near the spraying element, which parts are provided with sharp projections. Preferably, the sharp projections run in the lengthwise direction. The projecting parts are advantageously plate-shaped and the radial dimensions thereof, viewed in the lengthwise direction, decrease from a central part towards both ends. In a method for cleaning birds using the washer the spraying element and the projecting parts are inserted through an opening near the anus of the bird and are moved in the direction of and through the neck part.

  • Patent number: 5036005
Abstract: Fuel grade ethanol is produced in continuous process employing fermentation, solvent extraction of the ethanol, extractive distillation of the ethanol-solvent extract to provide water fraction and vacuum stripping for separation of the fuel-grade ethanol and regenerated solvent. The solvent is recycled. An isoparaffin is used as a solvent and this solvent can be modified with a long chain fatty acid, alcohol or fatty alcohol or long-chain esters. Alternatively, many modifiers may be used neat.

  • Patent number: 5020071
Abstract: A laser oscillator at 535 nm produced by a chemical process yielding stimulated emission of visible radiation via fast near resonant intermolecular energy transfer comprising the steps of reacting a reaction with a first metal vapor to form metastable states of metal oxides or metal halides, transferring the energy from the metastable states to receptor metal atoms by means of near resonant energy transfer to form electronically excited receptor metal atoms in an inverted configuration, and, through multiple reflection, allowing for the repeated passage of light through the inverted gain medium so as to produce oscillation.

  • Patent number: 5010723
Abstract: A yarn produced from two or more twisted cellulosic fibers, such as cotton or cotton rayon fibers, the plies being helically wound around a thermoplastic filament core which is subsequently melted to bind the inner portions of the yarn together so that it does not untwist or shed lint readily. The yarn is employed in a dust mop or floor mat for a shampoo bonnett for stain resistant treated carpet.

  • Patent number: 5007708
Abstract: A method of forming an antireflection rectangular-groove surface-relief grating on a lossy substrate exposed to incident waves of transverse electric or transverse magnetic or combination of polarizations and any angle of incidence in a lossless medium. The required thickness and complex refractive index of a single homogeneous layer on a lossy substrate to produce zero reflectivity is first computed using an impedance matching approach. The filling factor and groove depth of the rectangular groove surface-relief grating that is equivalent to the single homogeneous layer in the long-wavelength limit are then calculated. The surface-relief grating is then formed on the lossy substrate by reactive ion etching, electron beam lithography, or holography.

  • Patent number: 5005498
Abstract: A tufting machine is provided with separate motors which drive the main drive shaft, control the feed of the backing material and control the bedrail height. A computer is electrically connected to these motors and to the yarn feed controls. The software indicates patterns to be produced, informing the computer to control the number of stitches per inch of backing, the weight of face yarn per square yard, the pile height, the amount of yarn fed to the needles and the linear length of carpeting produced. The computer also dictates the schedule by which prescribed lengths of additional patterns are produced by the tufting machine and can control a number of such tufting machines. When the pile height is to be changed, the computer automatically controls the main motors for rocking the main shaft, to reciprocate the needles while controlling the yarn feed controls and the motor to the bedrail.

  • Patent number: 5002364
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing and viewing stereoscopic images through the use of a color coded image whereby the desired depth or distance is based upon the color of the portion of the image being viewed. Therefore the parts of the image which are to appear distant are colored red whereas the parts of the image to appear in the foreground are colored blue with the middle ground or intermediate distances being colored green or yellow. The color coded image is viewed through a prism glass constructed so that blue light which passes through the prism is bent toward a sharper angle than red light. Because the apex of the prism before each eye points toward the nose or center of the glasses the eyes must then turn more inward to see a blue object than to see a red object even though they are in actuality in the same plane on the display.

  • Patent number: 5002611
Abstract: Described is the process for forming a hardenable mixture of a coal ash comprising free CaO and free CaSO.sub.4 .OH.sub.2 O.In order to remove all free CaO the coal ash is mixed with a fly-ash comprising essentially no free CaO and no free CaSO.sub.4.OH.sub.2 O and water and subsequently subjected to a heat treatment.by removal of free CaO it is found that the strength of hardened granules formed from such as mixture does not deteriorate as is the case form granules formed with a coal ash comprising free CaO.Also a process for forming hardened granules and a building component formed with use of a hardenable mixture according to the invention are described.

  • Patent number: 4996906
Abstract: An actuating assembly having a cylinder which receives a plunger defining a fluid restricting means along its lower end. A feed conduit delivers pressurized fluid through a fluid inlet and into the cylinder, which displaces the plunger out of the cylinder. As the plunger is displaced, the fluid restricting means progressively covers the fluid inlet, progressively restricting the rate of fluid flow into the cylinder, and slowing the plunger's displacement.

  • Patent number: 4993648
Abstract: A knife assembly having a mounting flange defining an abutting surface and knives extending radially outwardly from the mounting flange. A first knife defines a first distal point extending in a direction circumferentially around the mounting flange. A second knife extends radially outwardly from the mounting flange and defines a second distal point extending in the same circumferential direction as the first distal point, and also defines a third distal point extending in the opposite circumferential direction as the first and second distal points. Numerous knife assemblies are spaced along inwardly, counterrotating drive shafts of an industrial refuse shredder. Material is comminuted between the inwardly counterrotating knife assemblies of the shredder.
