Abstract: An electric cooking assembly includes a cooking surface having supported under the surface an electric heater incorporating an electric heating element and a temperature limiter including a thermally responsive assembly incorporating only a single switch, the switch being adapted to open at a predetermined sensed temperature. A control is provided, adapted to energise the electric heater from a power supply through the switch of the temperature limiter. A modular electronic monitoring device is provided, separate from the control, adapted to monitor energising of the electric heater and to activate a signal device when the cooking surface is too hot to touch.
Abstract: A tool for simultaneously cleaning inside and outside surfaces surrounding an open end portion of a pipe includes a cleaning arm and a pipe-supporting arm mounted in a head for adjustment of the transverse spacing therebetween. Support portions on the cleaning arm have confronting faces spaced transversely from one another and defining a rearwardly extending, forwardly open slot adapted for the receipt of the wall of a pipe supported on the pipe-supporting arm, and a pipe-cleaning element is disposed on each of the confronting faces of the support portions. Relative rotation of the mounting head and a pipe so positioned will cause the cleaning elements to effect simultaneous cleaning of the surrounding inside and outside surfaces of the pipe end portion.

Abstract: In the manufacture of an electric heater, means (24, 26) is provided for feeding and guiding a ribbon heating element (14) progressively into overlying edgewise relationship with a base (2). Means (6, 8) is provided for supporting the base (2) and for effecting relative motion between the base (2) and the feeding and guiding means (24, 26), such that motion of the base (2) is synchronised with feeding of the element (14) as it is fed and guided into the relationship with the base (2), to urge the heating element (14) towards the base (2) and cause an edge portion (22) of the heating element (14) to become embedded in the base (2).
Abstract: A coilable tape rule includes a pair of rollers that are convexly rounded in both axial and transaxial planes, about which rollers the measuring blade moves during passage through the casing and which cause the blade to turn on its longitudinal axis so as to reorient its width dimension to a perpendicular relationship to the axis of coiling. The blade is of concavo-convex cross section and cooperates with the rollers for tracking control and to enhance the smoothness and reliability of extension and retraction.

Abstract: Solid waste resource recovery in space is effected by pyrolysis processing, to produce light gases as the main products (CH4, H2, CO2, CO, H2O, NH3) and a reactive carbon-rich char as the main byproduct. Significant amounts of liquid products are formed under less severe pyrolysis conditions, and are cracked almost completely to gases as the temperature is raised. A primary pyrolysis model for the composite mixture is based on an existing model for whole biomass materials, and an artificial neural network models the changes in gas composition with the severity of pyrolysis conditions.

Abstract: A lay-out tool assembly includes a square having a base component with a straight edge and with trough structure in which a carpenter's pencil is seated, an abrasive area for sharpening the pencil, and wall structure on which a tape measure is mounted for use in cooperation with the base.
Abstract: A supporting bracket assembly for a horizontal lifeline cable (4) comprises a base plate (14), bracket means (24) and holding means (28) for the cable. The base plate (14) is provided for securing to a structure (6). The bracket means (24) is secured to the base plate and adapted for frictionally restrained pivotability with respect to the base plate and the holding means (28) for the cable (4) is secured to the bracket means (24). In this way, dynamic loading of the cable (4) results in pivoting of the bracket means (24), against frictional restraint, from a first position (36) into a second position (38).
Abstract: The heat-generating components of an integrated motor system are disposed proximate the motor body, for efficient heat dissipation, and the heat-sensitive components are segregated therefrom, physically and thermally.
