Patent number: 5879151Abstract: A lid for use on a holder with a candle disposed therein, the holder having a lip defining an open mouth. The lid includes a central cap and a projection depending outwardly from the central cap. The projection includes an inner wall, which is configured to surround and abut the candle in the holder when the lid is in place on the holder, and an outer wall, which is configured to abut the holder when the lid is in place on the holder. A peripheral flange extends outwardly from the outer wall and is configured to abut the lip of the holder when the lid is in place on the holder. In another aspect, a candle package includes the lid, in combination with the holder and the candle. Also, a method of packaging a candle utilizes such a candle package.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1997Date of Patent: March 9, 1999Assignee: S. C. Johnson & Son, Inc.Inventors: Marissa A. K. Patent number: 5876706Abstract: This invention provides an air freshener dispenser device which has a taper candle feature. The taper candle consists of (1) a combustible encapsulant ingredient, and (2) a cellulosic matrix (such as cotton or rayon yarn) which has a content of a chemically-bound air freshener constituent such as geraniol, citronellal or menthol. The linkage between the air freshener and cellulosic matrix can be an ether or carbonate ester covalent bond. When the taper candle is ignited, it burns with a flame combustion, and there is a controlled release of the air freshener constituent into the atmosphere.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 1997Date of Patent: March 2, 1999Assignee: S. C. Johnson & Son, INc.Inventor: Judith R. Zaunbrecher

Patent number: 5875968Abstract: This invention provides an air freshener dispenser device with a nonporous wicking feature, which consists of (a) a first container with an upside open end, and a downside closed end with a sharp piercing structure extending up from the interior bottom surface, (b) a second container which is inverted and internally-nested within the first container, with an upside closed end comprising a vapor-emanating means, and a downside end which is sealed with an impermeable membrane, and (c) a reservoir of liquid air freshener medium enclosed within the second container. The coextensive sidewalls of the two containers are in a capillary spacing proximity. For activation of the dispenser device into an operational mode, the second container is adjusted until the impermeable membrane is breached by the sharp-structure at the bottom of the first container. The released air freshener medium is transported by capillary action to the vapor-emanating surface for evaporation into the atmosphere.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1997Date of Patent: March 2, 1999Assignee: S. Patent number: 5451396Abstract: The present invention provides post-foaming shave gels having improved clarity and gel tine strength by the addition of effective amounts of benzyl alcohol, or a mixture of benzyl alcohol and lauryl alcohol to the compositions at a pH of at least 8. These post-foaming gels maintain their strength and clarity for at least 180 days. The present invention also provides shaving foam compositions which may be produced from high performance post-foaming shaving gel by the addition of from about 1.0% to about 15% by weight of benzyl alcohol to the compositions without significantly altering the propellant system or otherwise changing the formulation or aerosol gel can type. Traditional shave foam cans with dip tubes can also be used for the foam product. These shaving compositions may be produced and packaged by current commercial methods.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1993Date of Patent: September 19, 1995Assignee: S. C. Patent number: 5391624Abstract: A novel thermosettable composition-of-matter is disclosed. One embodiment of the composition-of-matter includes a polymeric thermosettable ingredient having at least three acetoacetoxy-type functional pendant moieties as well as at least three acid-functional pendant moieties. Another embodiment of the composition-of-matter includes at least two polymeric thermosettable ingredients, one of which includes at least three acid-functional pendant moieties and the other of which includes at least three acetoacetoxy-type functional pendant moieties. The novel composition is characterized in that the acid-functional and acetoacetoxy-type functional pendant moieties crosslinkably-react together, when subjected to elevated-temperature conditions for a predetermined period of time, thereby producing a crosslinked polymeric network. The novel thermosettable composition-of-matter can be used "as is" if either of the polymeric thermosettable components is a "fluid" (i.e., is able to flow) at room temperature.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1992Date of Patent: February 21, 1995Assignee: S.
