  • Patent number: 5362971
Abstract: A fiber optic detection system in which a single optic fiber has a U-shaped configuration. A source of light is disposed at one upper free end of the optic fiber and a light detector is disposed at the other upper free end of the optic fiber. At the bottom of the optic fiber is a light variable loop adapted to be disposed in various media, such as liquids, fluids and air. The light from the source of light is conducted from the source of light through the optic fiber and to the light detector. The quantum of light lost as the light travels through the light variable loop will depend on the medium or the concentration of the medium in which the light variable loop is disposed. The light detector detects the light advancing thereto to produce a signal representative of the medium or the concentration of the medium in which the light variable loop is disposed.

  • Patent number: 5359988
Abstract: An outdoor cooking unit comprises a hollow, hemispherical base that increases in diameter from top to bottom. Detachably secured to the hemispherical base is a hollow, hemispherical firebox that decreases in diameter from top to bottom. Supported by the firebox is a hollow, hemispherical cover that increases in diameter from top to bottom. Disposed within the firebox is an adjustable fuel element holder, which is contractable and expandable to regulate the concentration and diffusion of heat provided by the fuel elements. A heat sensitive device controls the expansion of the fuel element holder in accordance with the intensity of the heat in the firebox.

  • Patent number: 5339989
Abstract: A bulk material container in which is disposed a flexible liner for storing bulk material. A rigid follower is attached at the top wall of the flexible liner for moving the top wall of the flexible liner to the level of the bulk material in the flexible liner during the removal of bulk material from the flexible liner. A rigid base is attached at the bottom wall of the flexible liner to facilitate the installation of the flexible liner into the bulk material container. The bulk material container and flexible liner provide an arrangement for storing, transporting and dispensing bulk material without contact between the bulk material and the container.

  • Patent number: 5335400
Abstract: A drawstring puller and fastener that laces separable members of a shoe or the like. The free ends of a shoelace pass through openings formed in a hollow, bell-shaped socket and are formed with a knot disposed in an axial opening of the tapered plug. The axial opening is formed with an oval cross-sectional area. The plug draws the shoelace for the tightening of the shoelace lacing the separable members. While the plug draws the shoelace for the tightening of the shoelace, the knot engages the inner wall of the plug surrounding the axial opening at the oval cross-sectional area. While the shoelace is tightened by the pulling of the plug, the socket is in abutment with the separable members. While the loop of the shoelace extending from the socket is held taut, the plug, which is formed with ridges on the outer wall, is inserted and press fitted into the socket wedging securely the shoelace therebetween. The inner wall of the socket is free of ridges to enable the ridged plug to enter the socket freely.

  • Patent number: 5282550
Abstract: A bulk material container includes a shell. Disposed in the shell is a flexible liner for containing material to be dispensed. The upper wall of the flexible liner is clamped or pressed between the rim flange at the top of the shell and the rim flange of a removable top for the container. In a modified bulk material container, the top wall of the flexible liner is detachably secured to the underside of a top on the shell by means of interlocking metallic hook and loop tapes. The discharge end of a spout for the flexible liner through which material is dispensed is extended outwardly to form a lip. The lip of the discharge spout of the flexible liner is detachably secured between a flange of an outlet fitting and a confronting flange of a discharge fitting. The outlet fitting is welded to the wall of the shell and the discharge fitting is secured to the outlet fitting by nuts and bolts. The lip of the spout is sandwiched between the flange of the outlet fitting and the flange of the discharge fitting.

  • Patent number: 5253386
Abstract: A brush for a hollow structure with an open end includes brush bristles secured to a twisted wire. In one embodiment, a non-abrasive, heat-shrinking plastic tube is slip-fitted over the twisted wire at a section thereof that is free of brush bristles. The heat-shrinking plastic tube is heat-shrunk to form a tight fit with the twisted wire to form a brush handle therewith. In another embodiment, a non-abrasive solid cylindrical body is penetrated along the axis or center line thereof by a section of twisted wire that is free of brush bristles.

  • Patent number: 5220691
Abstract: A knee protecting device for a carpet installer which engages the kicking pad of a carpet stretcher during the installation of carpets. The knee protecting device reduces trauma to the carpet installer while striking the kicking pad of the carpet installer. Toward this end, the knee protecting device includes a semi-rigid body member that has a shape conforming to the contour of the knee of the carpet installer and the thigh of the carpet installer immediately above the knee. A resilient layer is secured to the inner concave wall of the semi-rigid body member and has a shape conforming to the contour of the knee of the carpet installer and the thigh of the carpet installer immediately above the knee.

  • Patent number: 5069371
Abstract: A bulk material container with an opening has a door arranged to move over a rectilinear path for the opening and the closing of the opening. For moving the door over a rectilinear path to either open or close the opening, a threaded shaft is journalled for rotation within the container and is aligned axially with the center of the door. Means on the threaded shaft engage the door so that the door is moved over the rectilinear path by the rotation of the threaded shaft. A gasket surrounds the opening at the time of closure by the door. Continued rotation of the shaft for the closure of the door will cause the gasket to be compressed against the plate surrounding the opening. Rotation of the door is inhibited while the gasket is being compressed.

  • Patent number: 5060336
Abstract: A device for cleaning an inner wall of a tube for a wind musical instrument. The device includes a semi-rigid rod formed of separable half sections, which define, when contiguous to one another, an axially directed slit. A removable cleaning cloth is secured within the slit between the confronting walls of the half sections of the rod, when the confronting walls of the half sections are contiguous to one another. The cloth extends along the rod in the axial direction substantially the entire distance of the rod, when the walls of the half sections are contiguous to one another.

  • Patent number: 5060826
Abstract: A bulk material container in which is disposed an inflatable vessel. Also disposed in the container above the inflatable vessel is a compressible vessel containing a product to be disposed. Between the inflatable vessel and the compressible vessel is disposed a generally rigid disc. A source of air under pressure disposed exteriorly of the container communicates with the inflatable vessel. As air under pressure is discharged into the inflatable vessel, the inflatable vessel expands to lift the disc vertically within the container. This action causes the compressible vessel to be compressed for dispensing the product from the compressible vessel.
