  • Patent number: 7377383
Abstract: A mixing container wherein two or more chamber members each contain a material to be mixed. A first chamber member has a threaded port. A second chamber member has a threaded neck which is threadedly receivable in the port to threadedly connect the chamber members. The neck has a terminal opening. A sealing member covers the opening. The first chamber member has a frangible portion which sealingly closes an inner end of the port and which is broken is as the neck bears there against as the neck is threadedly received in the port. A blade on the first chamber member punctures the neck sealing member as the neck sealing member bears against the blade as the neck is threadedly received in the port. This allows the materials in the chamber members to flow between the chamber members to be mixed. The container may also have an opening for dispensing the substance mixed therein.

  • Patent number: 7300367
Abstract: An assembly for tracking an animal which has been shot by an arrow. A shank portion of an arrow is received in a bushing which in turn receives a housing for a transmitter. The housing is retained on the bushing during arrow flight by an elastomeric ring. Upon impact of the arrow with the animal, the elastomeric ring is dislodged, releasing the housing from the bushing. Associated with the housing are members which penetrate the animal to attach the housing to the animal. A hand-held direction finding receiver receives signals from the transmitter so that direction to the animal is determined.

  • Patent number: 6965181
Abstract: A hybrid foil-magnetic bearing wherein the foil and magnetic bearing parts share the load at predetermined speeds or operating conditions. Force, flux, strain, temperature, or acceleration sensors provide a measure proportional to actual load on at least one of the bearing parts, and this measure is inputted to a load sharing controller for dividing the load between the bearing parts. In order to provide control of a hybrid journal bearing which is substantially free of the effects of a bending mode node resulting from magnetic planes on opposite sides of the bearing and of sensor non-collocation, a pair of redundant sensors are provided on opposite sides respectively of the housing for regulating flux on the opposite sides respectively.

  • Patent number: 6827566
Abstract: A blade for use in a tire mold, a combination of the blade with the tire mold, and a method of attaching the blade to the tire mold. An edge portion of the blade is received in a slot in the tire mold, and a body portion extends therefrom to form a sipe in a tire. One or a pair of tab portions attached to the edge portion is received in an indent in the slot, and a wedge forces the tab portion or portions into a locked position as the blade is driven into the slot. A break-away tendon or tendons attach the wedge to the tab portion or portions and break to allow wedge movement for achieving the locked position when the blade is driven into the slot. Alternatively, a wedge is pre-positioned in an housing in the indent whereby blade tab portions move into a locked position upon contact with the wedge. • Patent number: 6811553
Abstract: A method to provide an efficient, safe, and easy to use supracapsular method for removal of cataracts, wherein a groove is formed in the cataract nucleus, the nucleus is cracked along the groove into two halves and rotated approximately 90 degrees, force is applied to the proximal half to effect movement of the distal half into a stacked position relative to the proximal half, and the nucleus halves along with the remainder of the cataract are then emulsified and removed. In order to minimize the chances of trauma to the capsule while sweeping the lens capsule away from cataract portions as well as making a crack in the nucleus and for otherwise assisting in manipulation of nucleus portions, an instrument has a prongless cataract-engaging portion, preferably with a convex frontal edge.

  • Patent number: 6790604
Abstract: A method of predicting the lymphotropic metastatic potential of a solid non-lymphoid tumor. The percentage of cells of each of a plurality of representative samples of the tumor which express lymphoid gene products is determined. The metastatic potential is predicted to be low when no tumor cells in all of the samples are detected to express lymphoid gene products. The metastatic potential is predicted to be high when a high percentage of tumor cells in at least one of the samples are detected to express lymphoid gene products. A solid non-lymphoid tumor is treated by systemically administering a substance comprising a therapeutically effective amount of a molecule linked to a toxin, radionuclide, or chemotherapeutic agent and having binding specificity for a tumor specific lymphoid gene product idiotype.

  • Patent number: 6717311
Abstract: A magnetic bearing wherein axially spaced combinations of permanent magnets on a rotor and stator are polarized to levitate the rotor and positioned with the rotor magnets offset axially outwardly (or inwardly) of the stator magnets to allow a force balance to be achievable to bear axial thrust. An electrically energizable coil modulates magnetic flux between the respective stator and rotor magnets for each combination. A first electrical circuit regulates electrical energy to the coils for maintaining a reference position of the rotor. A second electrical circuit compares feed-back of electrical energy to at least one of the coils with a reference electrical energy of about zero amps or volts and integrates the differences until the difference is about zero to provide a signal to modify the reference position, whereby to attain a zero force balance position wherein the current which must be supplied to the coils may be reduced to near zero.
