  • Patent number: 6567378
Abstract: A cell relay switch includes an output port for transmitting cells to multiple destinations. The output port further includes a queuing buffer, a controller, and an output processor. The buffer receives a plurality of cells of a packet from a source. The buffer temporarily stores the cells before transmission by the output processor. The controller controls the storing of the received cells in the buffer by determining a total number of the cells in the packet and a number of cells to be received from different packets, deciding whether the buffer contains sufficient space to store the received cells based on the total number of cells in the packet, the number of cells to be received from the different packets, and the rates at which cells are received and drained from the buffer. The buffer is commanded by the controller to store the received cells when the buffer contains sufficient space and discard the received cells when the buffer contains insufficient space.

  • Patent number: 6567858
Abstract: Systems and methods are presented to achieve crosstalk-free all-to-all exchange in optical multistage self-routing networks. • Patent number: 6567035
Abstract: Systems and methods for networking detection devices associated with police activity are provided in a network that includes at least one server (180) and a number of client devices (130-150). Each of the client devices (130-150) transmits its location information to the server for storage. When a client device (130) receives detection information relating to radar activity, a police sighting or other police activity, that client device transmits the detection information to the server (180). The server (180) may then transmit the detection information to other client devices (140,150).

  • Patent number: 6556840
Abstract: A cellular radiotelephone system (10) includes mobile stations (28) which may be remotely programmed from a customer activation system (12) to effect activation and other programming needs. Mobile stations (28) are manufactured in a blank form that causes them to operate only in an inactive state. During activation, information describing the mobile station's electronic serial number (ESN) is collected along with area of use information. A mobile identification number (MIN) is assigned in response to the area of use information. A page message is directed to the mobile station operating in its inactive state, but the page message references the mobile station's ESN. While inactive, the mobile station (28) detects pages directed to its ESN. A remote programming session is then performed wherein digital user-specific programming data, including the newly assigned MIN, are transferred to the mobile station (28) over a voice channel using a control channel protocol (80).

  • Patent number: 6556582
Abstract: A first wireless node provides a method of avoiding multiple access collision in a wireless network. The system receives a request to send data from a second wireless node (405) and determines if the system is receiving data from a third node (410). The system transmits a non-authorization message if the system is receiving data from the third node (415). If, however, the system is not receiving data from the third node, the system transmits an authorization message to the first wireless node (420). The system receives data from the second node in response to the authorization message (425) and then transmits an acknowledgment message to the second node acknowledging receipt of the data (435).

  • Patent number: 6549781
Abstract: A system (200) provides a network designer with a mechanism by which to quickly estimate the performance of a code division multiple access wireless communication network. The system (200) allows the designer to enter a group of network and sector parameters. Based on these parameters, the user can choose one of three methods depending on a desire for speed, accuracy, and generality of result. The system (200) determines the pilot strength and interference for each location in the network. The system (200) determines pilot strength to interference values for each location. The system (200) estimates the performance of the communication network using these determined values and accounting for user-defined network parameters.

  • Patent number: 6526277
Abstract: A multiple mode, personal, wireless communications system is disclosed which exists within a radiotelephone network serving general customers and provides unique additional services to a select group of customers equipped with special handsets, without impacting the general customers. The special handsets automatically switch between and operate in either analog or digital mode with the standard radiotelephone network and in an enhanced cordless mode when within range of independent pico cells, that are interconnected with the public switched telephone network. Each of the network transparent pico cells is controlled via a framework of overlay cells that operate independently of the radiotelephone network and use a unique control protocol on a relatively small number of reserved channels, with a use hierarchy that is reversed with respect to standard radiotelephone channels.

  • Patent number: 6519592
Abstract: Disclosed is a system for performing online data queries. The system for performing online data queries is a distributed computer system with a plurality of server nodes each fully redundant and capable of processing a user query request. Each server node includes a data query cache and other caches that may be used in performing data queries. The data query, as well as request allocation, is performed in accordance with an adaptive partitioning technique with a bias towards an initial partitioning scheme. Generic objects are created and used to represent business listings upon which the user may perform queries. Various data processing and integration techniques are included which enhance data queries. An update technique is used for synchronizing data updates as needed in updating the plurality of server nodes. A multi-media data transfer technique is used to transfer non-text or multi-media data between various components of the online query tool.

  • Patent number: 6512821
Abstract: A total aggregation plan (TAP) which connects an end-subscriber to an Customer or a Customer. The present invention encourages Customers to use more than one type of telecommunications service to connect to its end-user (subscriber) by requiring that the Customer choose a specified number of data services that are available from the telephone company under the plan. The Customer is then required to sustain an annualized billing of greater than a specified amount and maintain at least a specified percentage of billing allocations to each one of the data services chosen. If the Customer does comply in this manner, then a billing credit is provided to the Customer based on the billing history.

  • Patent number: 6512933
Abstract: A system (200) provides a network designer with a mechanism by which to quickly optimize the load distribution in a wireless communication network (100) by iteratively modifying the pilot power settings within an analysis session. The system (200) determines a reverse interference level for the network (100). The system (200) then adjusts the pilot power level of each sector by an amount equal to the difference between a sector's reverse interference level and the network's reverse interference level. The system (200) assigns, based on the adjusted pilot power levels, each wireless device (140) in the network (100) to a sector.

  • Patent number: 6512935
Abstract: According to the principles of the invention, there is provided a system, apparatus, and method for conserving energy in a mobile station (100) of an ad hoc wireless data network (10). Information concerning motion of the mobile station is obtained, and a rate of motion is used to adjust network parameters such as a beaconing rate (202) and a link change granularity (216). These parameters may be adjusted to reduce network overhead transmissions, and the power usage associated therewith, at appropriate times. In one embodiment, network-related transmissions, such as beacon signals and link state announcements, are reduced when the mobile station is moving quickly.
