Abstract: Novel sulfonate and sulfate surfactants which have low interfacial tension at high salinity, and their use in enhanced oil recovery are disclosed. These surfactants may be made from relatively inexpensive intermediates, such as monohydric alcohols and epichlorohydrin. These surfactants have 1,3-dihydrocarboxy-2-propyl hydrophobic tails linked by ethoxy linkages to sulfate or alkyl sulfonate moieties.
Abstract: The present invention relates to heat sealable laminar thermoplastic films which may be heat sealed over a wide range of temperatures. The resultant heat seals exhibit a high heat seal strength. Such laminar structures comprise at least two layers of thermoplastic film, one of the layers being an oriented base layer and the other layer a heat sealable skin layer. Preferably the base layer is an alpha olefin such as polypropylene or copolymers thereof and the skin layer is preferably a linear, low-density polyethylene copolymer, comprising ethylene which has been copolymerized with another alpha olefin in the presence of a stereospecific catalyst.
Abstract: An opaque oriented non-thermoplastic polymer film containing opacifying voids which opacifying voids contain rigid microspheres therein. The method of preparing such an opaque oriented non-thermoplastic film by incorporating rigid microspheres within the non-thermoplastic polymer forming a film thereof and orienting the same to create opacifying voids therein.
Abstract: An oriented multilayer heat sealable film structure comprising a polyolefin film substrate, a layer of a random copolymer of ethylene and propylene, a primer layer on said copolymer layer and a layer of heat sealable vinylidene chloride polymer on said primer layer. The method of preparing said structure includes aging said structure at a temperature and for a time resulting in increased heat seal strength.
Abstract: A bag pack of a plurality of stacked thermoplastic bag structures each bag comprising a front and rear bag wall and an open mouth top portion. Handles are integral extensions of the bag walls. The bags are bonded together via bonding means in association with said handles. Individual bags may have stress relief curves in the handles and the bag mouth opening.

Abstract: A heat sealable film laminate having a first layer of a major amount of a high density polyolefin, a minor proportion of an adhesion promoting ionomer and a heat seal promoting proportion of a metal salt of a fatty acid; and a second layer adhering to the first layer, said layer comprising a polyamide. A food storage and heating bag formed from said laminate and a method of heat sealing said laminate.
Abstract: A method of thermoforming comprising providing a continuous sheet of thermoplastic polymeric foam, transporting said sheet through an atmosphere of at least predominantly steam at a temperature of at least 215.degree. F. maintaining said sheet in said atmosphere for a time sufficient to cause a decrease in the density thereof; thereafter while under the influence of said temperature, deforming at least a portion of said sheet to a predetermined shape and while so deformed, cooling the same to cause retention of said shape and a system for carrying out said method.
Abstract: A bag pack and individual bags characterized by having handles which are integral extensions of the front and rear of said bag. The bags have a bag mouth which includes stress relief curves on both sides of an upwardly extending tab. The tab includes at least one orifice which is positioned to create comparatively narrow webs which serve to be the tear-off points severing individual bags from the pack. The bags are bonded together via said tab at areas adjacent said orifice.

Abstract: A process for preparing a poly(p-methylstyrene) polymer foam including extruding a poly(p-methylstyrene) foam structure from a melt at a temperature which will yield an open cell percentage less than that formed in general purpose polystyrene foamed under the same general conditions. It also includes performing the extrusion from a melt at a rate which will yield a foam structure at least comparable to that of general purpose polystyrene foam, wherein the extrusion rate is greater than the extrusion rate for said polystyrene foam.

Abstract: A novel method and apparatus is disclosed for the loading of a carton with a full complement of plastic bags and a cardboard insert. A plunger descends and contacts an insert which, in turn, forces a stack of plastic bags into an empty carton disposed directly below. A pair of intermeshing rollers are also provided to further guide the bags into the carton. Both gusseted and non-gusseted bags can easily be loaded pursuant to the teachings of the present invention.
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for orienting a multilayer polymeric film structure by differentially heating different film layers thereof by dielectric heating and then molecular orienting the film layers at their respective optimal orientation temperatures.
