  • Patent number: 4848556
Abstract: A low power coin discriminator detects and identifies the denomination of a coin to activate a parking meter, telephone, or vending machine device. Initially the device is in a low power, dormant state. Insertion of a coin into the discrimator trips a switch which produces a wake-up pulse which turns on a microprocessor. The coin falls upon a piezoelectric element, a signal from which causes the microprocessor to activate a photoelectric sensor. The coin moves through the photoelectric sensor which determines the net cross-sectional area of the coin. The microprocessor samples the output of the photoelectric sensor to detect the minimum light incident upon the sensor at the point of maximum eclipse of the light beam. The microprocessor also samples the output of an integrator which integrates the output of the piezoelectric element to produce a numerical value proportional to the mass of the coin.

  • Patent number: 4783126
Abstract: An anti-skid control apparatus for diagonally connected vehicle wheels including control valve devices arranged between fluid pressure generating chambers of a tandem master cylinder and the wheel cylinders of the front wheels, respectively, and a control unit receiving outputs of speed sensors for judging the skid conditions of the wheels and for instructing the control valve devices. The control unit determines the frictionally lower side of the road on which the wheels are running, and combines logically the judging result of the skid condition of the rear wheel running on that side of the road, with that of the front wheel running on that side. The apparatus then generates instructions for controlling the first or second valve device for the corresponding front wheel, and for controlling the second or first valve device for the other front wheel, on the basis of judging the skid condition of the other front wheel running on the other side of the road independently of the rear wheels.

  • Patent number: 4753493
Abstract: An anti-skid control apparatus including front and rear wheels diagonally connected with each other; fluid pressure control valve devices arranged between a tandem master cylinder and the wheels; a control unit; and a valve apparatus for generating a fluid pressure in accordance with the lower one of the pressures of the front wheels. The control unit logically combines the judging results of the skid conditions of the front wheels with judging results of the skid conditions of the rear wheels located at the same side of the road to generate the instructions for controlling the fluid pressure control valve devices. A decrease instruction for decreasing the brake fluid pressure is formed by the logical sum of first skid conditions as the judging results of the front and rear wheels. An increase instruction for increasing the brake fluid pressure, after the decrease instruction disappears, is formed on the basis of the one of the front and rear wheels which are most likely to lock.

  • Patent number: 4741836
Abstract: A system for extracting moisture from sludge of the type handled by municipalities and industries. The system involves the use of a feed line where the sludge is mixed with a chemical treating agent adapted to achieve flocculation. The sludge is conveyed, with or without some partial separation of moisture, to a progressive cavity continuous press for feeding of the sludge through the press. The press is of the type employing a slotted or screened housing with an interior shaft so that the cavity of the press is defined between the shaft and the housing. The size of this cavity progressively decreases from the inlet end to the outlet end of the press whereby the mixture is gradually compressed as it moves through the press. Moisture contained in the mixture is thereby extracted through the housing which is designed to at least minimize passage of solids. A discharge chamber is located at the outlet end of the press for collecting the partially dehydrated mixture.
