  • Patent number: 4716025
Abstract: A medical instruments sterilization container (10) includes a housing (12) and a removable lid (14). A removable tray (16) is adapted to hold various medical instruments to be sterilized. The container is formed of a polymer of relatively low thermal conductivity, with a material having a relatively high thermal conductivity being added thereto in order to substantially increase the overall thermal conductivity of the container to absorb radiant heat and rapidly conduct that heat throughout the container to reduce condensate within the container.

  • Patent number: 4715361
Abstract: Apparatus for passively exercising the human extremities includes an elongate track (16) comprising a tubular housing (46) having a slot formed in the bottom thereof. A lead screw (62) is longitudinally disposed in the housing and a carriage (26) is threadably engaged with the lead screw (62). The carriage (26) is connected to the extremity to be exercised, so that upon movement of the carriage (26) back and forth along the elongated track (16) the extremity is moved through a pre-determined range of motion. Stop members (28) are positionable on the housing in the path of movement of the carriage (26). Engagement of the carriage (26) with the stop member (28) effects longitudinal shifting of the lead screw (62). Longitudinal shifting of the lead screw (62) actuates switches (110) which reverse the direction of rotation of the lead screw (62) thereby reversing the direction of movement of the carriage (26).

  • Patent number: 4716585
Abstract: An audio conferencing system includes a plurality of remote stations (10) which are interconnected in a conference mode through a central switching network (66) through communication lines (16). Each of the remote stations has a microphone (34) and a speaker (64) associated therewith. The microphone (34) on each of the remote stations has a voltage controlled amplifier (VCA) (59) associated therewith and the speaker (64) has a VCA (60) associated therewith. A CPU (48) selectively controls the output of the microphone (34) to selectively decrease the gain thereof when voice is not detected. When voice is detected above a predetermined threshold, the microphone (34) is allowed to operate at full gain and the speaker (64) has the output level thereof decreased. This effectively reduces the audio loop gain between remote stations in a conference.

  • Patent number: 4710917
Abstract: A video conferencing network includes remote video terminals (10) interconnected to a switching network (66) through coaxial cables (16). The switching network (66) is operable to provide an audio and video data path between two or more video terminals (10). The switching network (66) operates as both an audio/video crosspoint switch and also as a network controller. In the network control mode, the switching network (66) operates in both a master mode for maintaining data communication with all of the video terminals (10) and also in a slave mode for maintaining status of devices attached to the switching network (66). In the master mode, the switching network (66) receives requests from each of the video terminals (10) and services these requests to determine available data paths for interconnection with other video terminals. In the slave mode, the switch (66) is in data communication with all of the video terminals (10) to determine the status thereof which is stored in a slave status table.

  • Patent number: 4698857
Abstract: An eyecup (24) for interfacing a night vision goggle (10) with the eyes of the user (12). A flexible curved eyepiece (28) including a wing (38) provides a tight seal of the periphery of the eyepiece (28) to the occular eye area of the user (12). The seal prevents light (22) emitted from the goggle (10) from escaping out of the confines of the eyecup (24). A fastening sleeve (26) is provided to secure the eyecup (24) about a flange on the goggle (10). An intermediate accordion section (40) allows compression and expansion and maintains the seal between the eyepiece (28) and the ocular eye area. An air vent hole (52) is formed in the accordion section (40) to prevent suction from occurring within the eyecup (24).

  • Patent number: 4696028
Abstract: Disclosed is an intercept system for integrating the personalized services of switchboard attendants associated with on-premises PBX switching systems with the capabilities of the intercept system for allowing calling parties the opportunity to complete their own calls to the on-premises switching systems when the telephone extension numbers of the called parties are known to the calling parties. Depending on the mode of system operation selected, the intercept system either presents all incoming calls directly to the switchboard attendants, or intercepts all incoming calls and presents the caller the opportunity to complete the call, or a combination in which incoming calls are first offered to the switchboard attendants for assistance and then after a time wherein attendant assistance is not gained, the call is intercepted and the caller is given an opportunity to complete the call.

  • Patent number: 4695163
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the surface shape of an object having an index of refraction. A laser light source (12) is incrementally movable in a rectilinear path along a track (10), and pivotal about the track (10), for scanning the surface of the object (14). A plurality of light detector segments (16) are provided on said track (10) for detecting light reflected from the object (14) which is maximally polarized when the angle of incidence equals Brewster's Angle. Means are provided for accurately determining the rectilinear and angular position of the light source (12), as well as which light detector segment (16) has received polarized light reflected from the object surface. A computer (20) is provided for receiving the positional information of the light source (12) with respect to the object surface and the light reflections received by each light detector segment (16) and therefrom calculates the spatial position of various points of reflection (24, 46, 52) from the object surface.
