    Abstract: The present invention relates to controls for a multi-zone reflow oven. In the present invention a plurality of infra red thermal scanners are located at critical points along the path which a substrate passes in a reflow oven so as to generate an actual solder paste time/temperature profile as a substrate passes through the zones of the reflow oven. The actual temperature of the solder paste is determined at critical zones for generating feedback control signals. The time/temperature profile is stored for transfer to a different reflow oven so as to effect the identical solder paste time/temperature curve on the same or a different oven.

    Abstract: A novel dual mode of operation gas fireplace of the type having a combustion chamber box and a heat exchanger is provided with a burner in the bottom of the combustion chamber box which creates exhaust gasses to be passed out of the combustion chamber box and into or through the heat exchanger portion of the fireplace mounted on top of or back of the combustion chamber box. The hot exhaust gasses leaving the combustion chamber box may be directed into an exhaust stack or diverted directly into the room to be heated by a blower motor which diverts hot exhaust gas products from the heat exchanger directly into a room area to be heated in a ventless mode of operation. When the blower motor which diverts the exhaust gasses into the room is deactivated, the novel fireplace may be operated in a vented mode of operation.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for determining the touch down position of a tool or probe used in bonding and placement machines. The tool holder is coupled to a Z-drive motor and comprises a fixed end coupled to a resilient member. The tool holder has a compliant end connected to the other end of the resilient member. An optical encoder is coupled to the compliant end of the tool holder. Processor means are provided for incrementally driving the Z-drive motor and observing the increments of movement of the compliant end of the tool holder with an optical sensor. When the compliant end of the tool holder no longer moves in step with the encoder of the Z-drive, the tip of the tool or probe has encountered resistance and started compression of the resilient member which connects the fixed end and the compliant end of the tool holder. The Z-axis position of the encoder and the Z-drive motor at the time of resistance is indicative of the touch down position.

An annotated corpus is used to list valid utterances within a grammar along with token data for each valid utterance representing the meaning implied behind the valid utterance. When valid utterances are detected, the interactive voice response system requests that a search is made through the annotated corpus to find the token identified with the valid utterance. This token is returned to the interactive voice response system. If the valid utterance included a variable, additional processing is performed to interpret the variable and return additional data representing the variable.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for making small ball size ratio air balls for use with fine pitch bonding tools includes programming an automatic wire bonder to make a predetermined diameter ball on a fine wire. The predetermined ball size, the diameter of the wire to be used is entered as input data in the wire bonder which makes a calculation of the time required to melt the volume of a fine wire tail necessary to create a spherical ball of predetermined size. The free end of the wire tail to be melted is positioned above an aperture in an EFO electrode wand. A predetermined current is applied across the gap between the aperture in the EFO wand to generate a ball on the end of the wire tail. If the ball size deviates from the preselected ball size, the ball may be increased or decreased by an incremental percentage to effect even greater ball size accuracy. Further, the spring force in the wire loop may be adjusted and/or controlled while maintaining the preselected ball size.

    Abstract: A memory system includes a data memory and a distinct cache status memory for storing status information regarding the data memory. A memory controller generates timing and control signals for accessing the data memory in a page mode while concurrently accessing the cache status memory in a word mode. In the preferred embodiment, the data memory is accessed in a four word per page mode while a read-modify-write operation is performed on an associated cache status memory. In order to conserve pins on the memory controller, the cache status memory shares a substantial portion of the address lines which are received by the data memory. Supplemental cache status address lines are generated by programmable control logic, which may be incorporated into the memory controller. Programmable control logic generates supplemental address lines based on the maximum number of data memory modules, the size of an addressed data memory module and the number of cache status columns.

During a heat dump or heat transfer mode of operation, an induced draft fan in an air duct is activated by a remote switch thrown to cause room air to be sucked through the heat exchanger and passed through the air duct and dumped in a remote area so that the fireplace heating effect is nullified or neutralized allowing the fireplace to be operated with or without an air conditioning system.

The present invention employs two primary enhanced display features to produce fast raster image decode and display results: (1) data reduction and transformations and (2) optimized algorithmic implementations. Data reduction and transformations operate as follows: a raster image is divided into strips, which are processed individually. A feature of the optimized algorithmic implementation is to increase processing thruput of the display process by optimizing the use of available resources required to decode and display the raster images.

    Abstract: A portable gas burner which is usable in remote areas without electricity is provided for use as a fire place burner, or as a camp fire burner or as a stove burner or as a grill burner. The novel gas burner comprises a base unit onto which is mounted a hollow ceramic fiber top which is connected to the base unit so as to form a gas manifold therebetween for receiving a mixture of gas and air. A manually operable gas valve means in said base unit is connected to a gas supply. The valve when opened allows a mixture of gas and air to flow through a gas line into the gas manifold until such time as a temperature thermocouple sensing element is heated sufficiently to hold manually operable gas valve open.

    Abstract: The present invention is a computer software system that allows the developer of a speech-enabled system to create a grammar and corpus for use in the system. A table interface is used, and phrases in the grammar are entered into cells in the table. The table also includes token data which corresponds to each valid utterance. When the grammar is defined, the computer software system automatically traverses the table to enumerate all possible valid utterances in the grammar. This traversal generates a listing (corpus) of valid utterances and their respective tokens. This listing can then be used to interpret spoken utterances for a speech-enabled system. The computer software system also transcribes the grammar rules found in the table to a format compatible with a variety of supported commercially-available speech recognizers.

    Abstract: In a pick and place machine of the type having an X-Y movable bond head there is provided a vertically movable pick up tool in the bond head having a tip for picking up and placing a device. The tip of the bonding tool is mounted opposite a radiant heating element which is juxtaposed and separated from the tip of the bonding tool. The tip of the bonding tool is heated to a predetermined control temperature with the radiant energy heating element and during a bonding operation it incurs some cooling. The amount of cooling is calculated by the time and the length of the extension of the bonding tool from its heating element and a computer controller calculates a compensation factor over a predetermined fixed time which includes retracting the bonding tool tip a predetermined vertical distance into the heater to reheat the tool and compensate for the amount of cooling that occurred during the pick and place operation.

The air passageway above the insulating panel forms a plenum chamber with apertures in the outer housing panel(s) for conducting room air into the plenum chamber. A stack opening aperture in the top panel of the outer housing conducts cooling air into a coaxial exhaust stack for cooling the top panel as well as the exhaust stack pipe.

    Abstract: The present invention includes a universal combustion chamber preferably shipped from a factory as a separate unit for field installation into a plurality of different fireplace units and includes a top panel and a floor panel connected to sidewall panel to form a complete ready to use gas tight structure. The combustion chamber is fabricated from flat and/or curved panels which are preferably molded from a thick paste slurry of mixed vitreous alumina silicate fibers combined with an aqueous solution of silica binder and fired to form non-porous gas tight panels which are interconnected to form a gas tight combustion chamber. The connecting joints are preferably reinforced by the addition of a high temperature adhesive added to the mating joints. The joints may be further reinforced and/or sealed by mechanical reinforcing at or in the joints. The joints may be eliminated by forming a one piece combustion chamber on forming molds that are designed to be separated from a formed but uncured combustion chamber.
