  • Patent number: 4531303
Abstract: A drafting instrument includes a plurality of transparent prism arrays, each array including a plurality of transparent prisms juxtaposed in parallel relation and fixed at a predetermined angular relation to a straightedge on top of which the bases of the prisms rest. The preferred predetermined angular relations are: 30.degree., 45.degree. and parallel, to the straightedge. When viewed through the prism arrays, portions of lines not perpendicular thereto, appear offset, providing a way to establish perpendicularity and specific alignment between line and straightedge by re-orientation of the drafting instrument. The straightedge is made substantially thicker than required for structural strength, to enhance the offset appearance of lines viewed through the prism and thus increase sensitivity of offset indication. The straightedge preferably has two edges on opposite sides and parallel with each other.

  • Patent number: 4527797
Abstract: A system for weight lifting exercises provides the user with a guided leg press/multi-press that has a safety mechanism which is adjustably limitable to prevent a barbell, an assembly of weight plates on a weight lifting bar, from falling below a chosen height. A series of holes in uprights provide a range of adjustment for barbell support rods during guided bench-press and standing-press use on a slide assembly permit a plurality of barbells to be received at one time, thereby increasing the weight-load capacity of the slider system. A part of the system serves as a chin-up bar. Numerous exercises using the system may be performed. A supported barbell includes a pivotal foot-plate with angle limiting provision. A slider assembly may include a two-piece apertured flange for locking a barbell in place during an exercise.

  • Patent number: 4526413
Abstract: A self-contained system eliminates need for hydraulic or other lines from a crane to a grapple or clamshell bucket on the end of the crane hoist line. A wireless (radio or sonic) portable remote-control unit sends signals to a hydraulic power system carried above the grapple or clamshell bucket, either as an integral part of the bucket or spaced a distance up the line from the bucket suitable for avoiding damage when the grapple or clamshell bucket is used in dredging or is otherwise submerged.

  • Patent number: 4520984
Abstract: An improved adjustable overhead sign bracket system of the type having: a supporting cable clamp, adjustment in the plane of a supporting cable for setting lateral angle of a sign, adjustment about a substantially vertical axis for setting direction in which a sign is to face, and provision permitting a sign to swing in the plane of the direction in which facing to lessen the magnitude of wind loads, provides improved access and swinging clearance at the adjustment about a substantially vertical axis, in the form of a centrally located vertical locking bolt as slim shank portion of an integral inverted "T" member, the lower, substantially horizontal portion of which is a compact sleeve for a pivot bolt providing for the swinging of a sign suspended from it by a sign frame having upward arms engaging the pivot bolt; for economy and versatility in wrenching operations and adjustment in fabrication if desired, the vertical locking bolt may be a conventional bolt with head welded to the sleeve, and a nut and back

  • Patent number: 4519143
Abstract: A hand-operated sheet metal layout and marking tool supports sheet metal on a base where it may be laterally guided by a fence adapted for use at either side of the sheet metal, and permanently marks location of bend lines to be made, by means of a die-head carrying a row of pointed dies and pivotal for simultaneously impinging the dies against the sheet metal. The base has a recess along it in alignment with the row of dies to permit the sheet metal to yield for easier indenting. Spacing between the dies is easily set by means of a scale fixed on the base, and a die carrier ring carrying each die, that slides along a grooved rod coaxial with the similar rings carrying the other dies and can be fixed in position by a set screw that rides in the rod groove. When desired, any die can be swung out of operation, and all can be swung together by rotating the rod.
